I also found this little line in the manual of my receiver: "The Dolby Headphone function will not work when 32 or 96 kHz PCM digital signals are input." Could this be something the PS4 puts out while the xbox did something else? Everything the PS4 outputs is 48khz, except for certain blu-rays and DVDs. These would be primarily concert or music releases with hi-rez 96/24 tracks.

bradmanI think I already have my PS4 on Bitstream(Dolby) over toslink(optical). But thanks for your answer anyway @pegasus Actual I don't really mind a 5.1 output not being optimal for my speaker setup. My receiver can easily convert 5.1 back to 2.1. That got me thinking though. Because my receiver is set to 2.1 speakers only, it converts all audio back to 2.1. So maybe, just maybe, it converts the audio signal back to 2.1 before being processed by Dolby Headphones as well. Would be kind of stupid, but it is not impossible I guess, especially with older electronics. It is one of the things which are different with my old setup (I had a 5.1 setup back then). And yes, my receiver does the Dolby headphones thing . Thanks for your imput. I have one more thing to try next weekend! Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it I will post an update after some (more) testing. Remember, Dolby Headphone works best with 5.1 input. It uses Pro-Logic IIx on stereo sources. For TV or movie viewing maybe not such a big deal, but for soundwhoring in video games, a big step down.

I think if you only put in a stereo signal, you are probably better of disabling DH altogether when sound whoring. It is going to be the next thing for me to test, if I really can't get this stuff to work properly with DH for some reason... Really hoping I get it to work though... Any idea what sample rate the x360 had for audio output?

360 was DD or DTS only due to DVD format. 48khz, bit rate is 640kps for DD and 1.5 Megs for DTS.

Okay, so I can scrap that from my list of possible reasons why my sound whoring experience is sub par. Thanks for the info
