Maybe this is why I find it takes ages to line up long range shots with the Ballista

Maybe this is why I find it takes ages to line up long range shots with the Ballista Have to keep quickscoping balanced, Treyarch-style. If the Ballista had aim-assist, people would abuse the hell out of that sexy 0.35 second ADS time. /s

Interesting.. that does explain why the Ballista is such shit.
I do like the Vector even more now that I know it has more aim assist than the Skorp/MP7. Seriously, it's idiotic for the MP7 to have shorter aim assist range than the PDW/Vector. Its supposed to be the "mid range" SMG...

Interesting.. that does explain why the Ballista is such doo-doo. And why only PC players seem to like it. I don't like their way to balance guns, by tweaking their aim assist range.

You should convert the ranges to inches. And specify if they are from the hip or ADS.

Wait - the M1216 has aim assist 32 feet past where the pellets even reach?

Wait - the M1216 has aim assist 32 feet past where the pellets even reach? lol, I just realized that. I guess this is a great excuse to not buff it, according to 3arc.

Do any attachments impact aim assist range? Long barrel? Suppressor? Any sights?

You should convert the ranges to inches. I disagree. The numbers were derived from the Ballistics CPU, which reports in feet, and thus lacks the resolution to be converted to inches.

Well, if made into inches, you might find that they round into cleaner, more likely numbers like 500 or something.

Yeah, but they're impossible to convert accurately, so that wouldn't really help much.

I think there's this magical process called multiplication that could convert these numbers, although I heard its extremely difficult and time-consuming; I lost 3 of my best friends to multiplication.
In other words, we're all just waiting for someone else to convert these numbers for us.

I think there's this magical process called multiplication that could convert these numbers Will this magical process also contribute the required resolution to do this step? There are twelve inches per foot. (Crazy, I know.) Because the CPU rounds somehow (could be tested empirically if it rounds, floors, or ceilings), you lose the amount of inches.

The best you could get is a range of inches.

Even considering the rounding, the most you are ever going to be off by is 11, and because the developers generally only use values that are a factor of 10 or 25, it's can be easily interpreted to what the numbers should be - not like a difference of 11u is significant though.

I think there's this magical process called multiplication that could convert these numbers, although I heard its extremely difficult and time-consuming; I lost 3 of my best friends to multiplication. In other words, we're all just waiting for someone else to convert these numbers for us. I heard there are creatures on the Board of the Pros that lurk in the shadows, ready to unleash their snarky asides on any who is present. They skulk like lazy sharkskins, only submitting input where none is needed. I have heard they are moon-struck creatures indeed, incapable of realizing their lack of perspicuity or significance. Truly, the Board of Pros is a hazardous place. Marvel4 brought up a good point on the IRC as well, that we are assuming the OP's tests are completely accurate. Even if we did multiply them, they still wouldn't be accurate. But here we go... Assault Rifles: 1020 in PDW/Vector/Chicom: 984 in MP7/MSMC/Skorp: 744 in M1216: 984 in Other Shotties: 600 in LMGs: 960 in Ballista: 600 in SVU: 3984 in XPR: 3984 in DSR: >4572 in Pistols: 600 in Shield: 600 in Crossbow: 600 in Ballistic Knives: 600 in (At 600 in the knife goes where you aim it) Launchers: 984 in Combat Knife and Balistic Knife Aim Assist range 600 in Knife reach <60 in Lunge range <120 in Black hat hacks within 600 in w/o LoS, or super far with LoS Dragon Fly Aim Assist 1584 in Sentry Assist: Huge Sentry Auto kill range: 1800 in Guardian kill range 744 in Engineering highlight range 1500 in Tomahawk 1584 in all other equipment 600 in Thanks air139 for the original numbers. Anyways, as we can see some of these numbers aren't quite so clean, something Treyarch isn't apt to do. In reality, the numbers are probably more rounded than we think. For example the launchers probably have an aim assist of 1000 inches.

ARs, the AKS-74U and the Kiparis in Black Ops have an aim assist range of 1000. 82 * 12 ≈ 1000 Most SMGs in Black Ops have an aim assist range of 750. 62 * 12 ≈ 750 etc.

I think you are confusing crosshair color distance with aim assist during L trigger. There's no way the ballista has only a 600 inch aim assist while hard scoped

Post by air139 on Jan 4, 2013 15:17:51 GMT -5
crosshair color distance is aim assist distance. when the out of the red crosshair distance there is no change in speed when passing the crosshairs over the person. This was the same from the hip and scoped. I will retest the ballista later if you think the ballista has a different value in scope.
