These games are really really really cool. I love the backstory. I love the open world post-apocalyptic immersive experience. I love how quests have far more possible outcomes than in Skyrim/Oblivion. Sometimes if you go exploring you can accidentally skip through huge chunks of quests...which is equally cool and frustrating. Been playing both games since a week before my birthday (May25) and I've gotten a ton of time out of them. I completed Fallout 3 almost entirely and I'm about 1/4 through new vegas (though I can already tell the story is superior to Fallout 3).
I'm definitely going to try playing Hardcore soon...as my friends have informed me of its notorious difficulty.
This whole thing reminds me of the poem "ozymandius." Not the famous one by Percy Shelley. The less common one written by a friend of the original author within one month of Percey's for a writing competition.
IN Egypt's sandy silence, all alone, Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws The only shadow that the Desert knows:— "I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone, "The King of Kings; this mighty City shows "The wonders of my hand."— The City's gone,— Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose The site of this forgotten Babylon.
We wonder,—and some Hunter may express Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace, He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess What powerful but unrecorded race Once dwelt in that annihilated place.
And its really cool because there are things that people remember and hold almost sacred because history really is lost in that game. Abraham Lincoln is seen as a symbol of freedom because of a statue. Elvis is known only as "the king" and as supposed religious figure (because everyone wanted to be like/impersonate him). I want more of this kind of alternate future sort of game. With elderscrolls you have to actively build a lore whereas the fallout universe has a lore that most Americans are familiar with. It feels far more personal.

I really liked both of these games. In my opinion, they surpass Skyrim in every way and totally crush Oblivion, which just sucked in the first place. The dialogue, story, and gameplay is just plain better. It's a shame they're not given the same level of attention that TES games get. Fallout 3 was good, but I really think they hit the mark with New Vegas. In Fallout 3, VATS was so good that it was made the game much harder to play without it. In New Vegas, VATS and traditional shooting are both equally viable, and work even better together. Also, I love that perks are more than just extra skill points in New Vegas and actually define how you play.
Have you tried any of the DLCs? Most of them are quite good.

I love Vats but I try to play without it to make it harder on myself. In Fallout 3 I leveled up my sneak and small guns so VATs was actually a liability if I was fighting at the range my character was best at (long range). I do love going around corners tapping rb rb rb rb...lol.
New Vegas is slowly demanding to be on my favorite games list. I fell in love with the Caravan game...looking for more people to play against.
The DLCs? I did all of them for Fallout 3 (I got the GotY edition for F3 and Ultimate edition for FNV for around 15 dollars each) but since they made the game easier for me in that game by playing them early...I decided to wait in New Vegas. I especially loved "The Pitt."
*Spoilers past here*
I was playing a good character on my first F3 playthrough...and like I said I had high sneak. I went right through the main slaver's HQ by quickly assassinating everyone in the whole area with a silenced assault rifle. I ran through to get the "cure" and for the first time in video gaming I felt ashamed of myself...lol. I think I might have actually dropped the controller. I reloaded the save and replayed the level, actually siding with the slavers for the "greater good." This was an excellent twist imo. Really good DLC. Also the reward is pretty sweet too. Ammo Converter? yes please. Also, the guy who gives you the quest is clearly going to abuse "the cure" if you look around his rather dingy, bloody, rape-y, dirty, bonesaw-ey, laboratory.

Oh I agree. If you look around his erm...lair... he has some messages to his daughter. In those messages and to the player he promises he will release all the slaves. The dude seems really geniuine...far more than any other character in the Putt (besides his wife). If you give "the cure" to the quest giver the cure itself won't be finishing and "the cure" will be sold to the highest bidders.

I think they're alright, the story/amount of information put into them is actually really cool though. I just really dislike the engine those games use, it's too clunky and freezes pretty often for me on xbox. the shooting is a lot better in New Vegas though, where it seems like it's possible to snipe something without using VATS or needing to have gun skill at 100. I kind of think Fallout 3's wasteland has more interesting stuff, but New Vegas made me more interested in the game at the start, it just feels like the actual city of Las Vegas could've been a lot bigger.
the only hard thing I found about hardcore mode is the healing, where stimpaks don't heal automatically. it's still not that difficult though, and the other things like hunger/thirst aren't too big of a deal, just kind of annoying to keep water and food with you all the time. I think I'm going to play them a bit more though, I need to level up my character in New Vegas and get some better equipment, I'm right at the end of the game and most of my equipment isn't that great

Could use some more work. I mean, I know these games are huge, but the amount of bugs occurring is big. Maybe some more time testing, "cleaner" scripts, or even a longer time developing the game could be useful.
Aiming could be improved. Like having more "SmallGuns" skill shouldn't give your weapons more damage, only improve your handling with them. Less sway while aiming, smaller hipspread, increased moving speed while ADSed and less bobbing when moving. Guns altogether could be worked on, like literally finding less guns around, but making them more powerful (A weak ass ghoul shouldn't have to receive 10 freaking shotgun shells in the face to die regardless of difficulty)!
Thats what I like the more in Fallout, the beginning, where you don't have shit and every bullet counts.
Touch Football mode was a welcome improvement in my book; I haven't played New Vegas once without it. The only thing that pissed me off was the fact that hunger was really easy to counter, and even if you didn't, it would barely affect you at all. I mean, it could decrease Endurance, Agility and Perception, but all it did was -1 Strength. I mean, even at Critical Hunger (which is basically impossible to happen in this game) you lose Charisma instead of Endurance or Agility.
Oh, and change how difficulty works. Enemies (or me) becoming a bullet sponge isn't fun.
But all in all, New Vegas (at least from a gameplay standpoint) is way more advanced than Fallout 3, and I'm hoping we can see even more advancements on the possible sequel.

I agree with everything you said there, one of my biggest problem with those games is how weak the guns are. even at the beginning of Fallout 3, guns seem pretty much useless, it was easier for me to just kill them unarmed or with some melee weapon. In New Vegas it seems like some of them are actually alright, but still have that problem where you need a high skill to kill things that don't even have armor. in hardcore, the only thing I really experienced that often was thirst, but only at stage 1. and there is so much clean water in that game that it doesn't really matter, I feel like more of it should've been irradiated, and probably should've had more irradiated places aside from that one searchlight place. I like the farming/plants that they added in New Vegas though, that was a cool addition
I hope that the next one will use a new engine, the one Fallout 3 and NV use is pretty awful. I'm guessing that it won't be that great though, Skyrim's engine was a minor improvement and it still felt about the same, with similar problems

As long as Bethesda continue to use Gamebryo (and now their offshoot "Creation" which is still just Gamebryo in most ways), Elder Scrolls and Fallout will continue to be buggy as hell.

Gamebryo true realistic physX master race. The Fallout experiences are made to feel unique. I've logged ~500 hours into F3/NV each(Most of it exploring and collecting unique items)and just last week I hopped on F3 on a whim and discovered an unmarked building I had never been inside before even on my 500 hour scour of the game. Inside the building had no monsters, no loot, or NPC's; what it had was better, it had lore and back story. Makes the world feel genuine, varied and lived in. As for the DLC's F3's expansions where all disappointing w/ the exception of Point Lookout as PL was the only expansion that allowed free roam rather than a scripted linear shooting gallery. Operation Anchorage might as well of been a CoD. FNV expansions where much better, all where good except for Honest Hearts simply because of the weak story and bland environment. As a side note the ending for Old World Blues gave me the patriotic super feels. When it comes to Fallout 3 Vs Fallout New Vegas I'd have to choose F3 for it's environment alone. Exploring the urban decayed remains the old world after it's fiery baptism in nuclear hellfire was just so appealing in F3 VS the Mojave Desert in New Vegas. the fallout universe has a lore that most Americans are familiar with. It feels far more personal. I agree w/ Dummy-en. In my youth I used the DC metro frequently, I've been to pretty much every F3 subway station(And many other locations) in real life and it feels close and personal. The lore, legends, and myths of Fallout is the history of the US. Edit: Dummy-en, if you like Fallout you should read a Boy and his Dog. It's pretty much the inspiration for Fallout/Wasteland/Adventure Time.

I found it interesting how Fallout's lore it's an alternate universe where humanity's efforts were more focused on making robots and nuclear tech. Microtechnology was never looked into, and that's why everything in the game uses a CRT monitor. Also here's everything in Moira Brown's personal terminal:
Do brahmin heads learn independently? More study of brahmin language required.
Can explosives be used to expand town? Lucas Simms requests all testing cease.
Can mole rats be domesticated? Yes, if defanged, declawed, & lobotomized.
How to prevent raider attacks? Raiders refuse to sit for interview.
What do super mutants eat? Research assistants.
What happened to China? Reports uncertain. China may be fictional.

I enjoyed fallout 3 more, but fallout new vegas is more immersive. Doesn't really feel like a "post-apocalyptic" setting, though. Just feels like an alternate world.
Also, the shooting in it sucks. Fallout New Vegas is admitted much better with real irons and some guns having better zoom, but it's still shitty.
alpha hyperbreeder is still the absolute best gun in fallout new vegas in my opinion. If you don't have any DLCs, then That Gun is the best.

The MPLX-Novasurge still gets best gun in Fallout history. 93DMG, 0 spread, low VATS cost and extremely spammable outside of VATS.

Needed a DLC for it though. But I do agree it was the best. I believe it had one of the highest damage/ap ratios, too.

The next Fallout should be set in Detriot. It would be a nice change of pace to have a Fallout game set before the bombs dropped.

That was my vote too Legit.
I would love to see a mythology based on what people think the statue of liberty is/was. You could do a whole theme of what "liberty" is. Plays with the whole slaver thing Fallout has.

I played me some New Vegas. It was fun, but I got bored of it on my 3rd play through. Still funny thing about the first game, I went through it i the beginning as NCR, but Caesar invited me over and I talked with him, and he seemed resonable. That was until I had to do a mission to save his life, then it was too fucking hard and I pissed off to the NCR again.

I like how you can sell 6 NCR uniforms and 6 NCR helmets to any vendor, and nobody will ever ask where you got them.
"Hiya random vendor caravan guy. I'll buy this giant plasma weapon, all these 308 rounds, and this mini nuke to go." "What are you giving up for THAT?" "247 bent tin cans, 10 crazy glue... aaand let's throw in some squirrel on a stick for good measure." "Wow! Sold!"

There's a bunch of free money glitches. The best one I know is the free Sydney's "ultra" SMG glitch. And with The Pitt DLC you can pretty much have infinite ammo of any kind.
