Being a member of the official Call of Duty forums, I have to deal with ignorant members that don't know squat about gun balance. And one gun balance complaint that comes up every once in a while is Pistols. The pistols mainly complained about are the Tac-45, B23R, and KAP-40. I find it funny how people complain "Pistols shouldn't be able to beat other weapons at close range". Yeah, because close range weapons shouldn't be competitive at close range right? Anyway, I want to know what your opinions are on pistol balance in Black Ops 2 are. That'll be all.

Bar the Executioner, the pistols in BO2 are how they should be.

Bar the Executioner, the pistols in BO2 are how they should be. I will agree with there. It's not a bad weapon at all, but it isn't exactly great either. I think they need to buff the range to 700", and take the damage up to 40 or 45. I think it should be usable like that.

I always pictured the role of pistols to be the fast swapping really close ranged 2-3 shot kill weapons. If they're doing that then they're balanced, IMO.

i honestly think they're absolute crap I think the Five Seven is my favorite pistol in the series. That three hit kill just makes it so awesome.

the benefits are so marginal for something that most people cant even come close to the firecap with. I meant he kap was banned in MLG because it was overpowered, which is really saying something. MW2 Magnum especially with akimbo fair, but only because i was a sucker for the wa2k and swapping weapons with that was like lifting a drawbridge. Swapping to anything but a pistol is always too slow for me (barring having SoH in MW3, or Fast Hands but I never use that). I prefer pistols 100% so I can switch on a whim or while under fire.

shut up mousey you make my tac45 sad
On a serious note, this is the lowest recoil highest capacity quickest reloading non-SP 2HK handgun we've ever had, which has got to be worth something.

I think that pistols are too good in BO2. Most of the time better choice than overkill while requiring way less points.

Any heavy Riot Shield/Assault Shield user should have a higher than average Pistol K/D. Most of the actual dying happens with the Assault Shield on, not after the trap has been sprung. That Executioner K/D is totes impressive though.

BO1 Python Dual Wield was pretty good of what little time i have in bo1 I almost always used launchers except on shotgun classes (which are practically a gimmick at best in bo1). all the best guns in bo1 are strong, accurate, and fire fast. There's really no reason for a pistol there. Unless you're not using one of the best guns. Or you're not using Slight of Hand. Or you want to take it out to run faster. Or you want to be able to quickly swap it for another weapon on the ground.

If you're simply going to swap it out first thing, there's no real reason to use a pistol.

57 is the king of pistols. Especially for me considering I hit the firerate cap on it.

Pistols are fine. They're perfect. No more MW style machine pistols outclassing primaries.

Unless you're not using one of the best guns. snipers/shotguns are different ive mentioned. but in a discussion about "the best pistols" i figure we'd assume the rest of the class was decent as well. Or you're not using Slight of Hand.Personally I don't have too many issues when it comes to reloading safely but ok i guess. Or you want to take it out to run faster.thats a good reason, forgot about that one. Or you want to be able to quickly swap it for another weapon on the ground.I feel like that's such a minimal benefit for something that could potentially be a rocket. I definitely have problems reloading safely at times. Particularly if I'm using an SMG with Steady Aim. Personally, I frequently swap my weapon for one I find on the ground. The difference in swap times between a LAW/Strela and an ASP is almost 1.5 seconds. If you use the launcher infrequently (for example, you're using Ghost so you don't bother), you might as well swap it out for a pistol. Also forgot to mention before - sometimes you just run out of ammo and need to switch to your secondary. In those situations, it helps if it's a gun.

I feel so dirty using the BR, it's basically a MW3 FMG with less effective range and capacity, but no effective recoil and it's still super lethal at intended range. I've been trying to use a Five seven recently, because it's more fun and still almost as good. Executioner is so pitifully bad I won't even consider using it. Troll weapon only.
I miss my cod4 deagle equivalent in the newer cods, it was just so badass.

They're good as they are supposed to be.
I would actually increase their firecap. And with that I would increase FAL's and SMR firecaps as well.

No. If there's one thing this heavily saturated genre needs; it's a game with FEWER things that distinguish it. Pulling the littlest mechanics in different directions is intuitive thinking, and humanity has never benefited from people thinking differently from others. Most successful shooters played pistols into their mechanics by making it either:
-a mini-battle rifle (Halo, Saints Row) -that gun you only pull out when your bigger gun goes 'click' (almost every other shooter with multiplayer known to man) -or the first weapon you pick up/last weapon you'll ever use (Counter-Strike, Doom)
Any other role for the pistols would be ridiculous; smaller guns should always be inferior guns.</sarcasm>
