Hardcore (referred as HC in this post) is normally not a popular choice among players due to its more "campy" nature. However, with the introduction of Clan Wars in Ghosts, it will get played a lot more because there are 3 HC nodes to capture: HC TDM, HC KC and HC SnR. The purpose of this thread is to share tips of how to play HC more effectively.
Quick recap of what HC is like
1) Player health is 30 pts instead of 100; 2) No radar by default. SAT COMM will enable radar; 3) Friendly fire will be directed back to the shooter;
Tips
Below are my 2 cents.
1) When partied up, it is extremely important for everybody in the party to have Dead Silence equipped. By doing this, everybody will have the confidence in knowing that loud footsteps = enemies and can pre-fire; 2) Spam SAT COMM. By having SAT COMM the entire team will know where teammates are and that's vital intel to have; 3) If the enemy is spamming SAT COMM, consider Off the Grid, or even Wiretap; 4) Hip fire can be very deadly. for close to mid range, consider fire first (ADS while doing that or just hip fire if the enemy is close enough). Also, this makes Steady Aim a great perk to consider; 5) Skill Cannon and RPG can kill easily, you don't even need Danger Close. On the flip side, this makes Blast Shield a great perk to consider when facing explosive spamming teams. One word of caution: make sure that no friendlies are in the vicinity of your target; 6) Try avoid walking into teammates line of sight if at all possible! You'll get your teammates killed; 7) Vests are very useful. On the flip side, armor piecing attachment is worth considering against teams that spam vests; 8) The following weapons are OSK at all ranges (except for the enemies who have vests on): Ameli, M27, all Marksman Rifle, all Sniper Rifle;
Bros: please share any tips you have!

The M27 and MR-28 are beast for slower playstyles and outclass all other weapons within their respective classes. SMGs are not a good choice unless you are crazy aggressive, and even then you still might be better off with an AR. But if I'm going SMG it's gotta be the VEPR, anything else shoots too slowly or has too much recoil. The FAD and SC-2010 are really solid. The Honey Badger, R5, AK and SA are alright if that's what you're into. The ARX and MSBS are trash. Sniper rifles and shotguns are obviously awful.

Perks: Ready Up, Quickdraw, Dead Silence, Amplify, wiretap Focus is not that good unless your using a scoped weapon and dont like sway. K7, CBJ are good ( just avoid longer engagements) FAD+GRIP is good

The Masterkey is, moreso than Riley, a mans' best friend.

HC is indeed explosive city if you are facing a team who knows what they are doing. GL, Rockets, Grenades, etc. can be very brutal :-). So, everybody should at least has one class with BS on.

I know shotguns suck in core mode but slug rounds shotguns any good in HC? May have a go at playing HC mode with LMGs feel like playing with another class after nothing but SMG/ARs.

Nope.
Too much sway for long range; too little ROF for close range. Absolutely no niche.

I think you're mixing up the conversation: I know shotguns suck in core mode but slug rounds shotguns any good in HC? Just finished the gold slug patch last night. It was a rough ride. Slugs are OSK to everything but vests in HC. When using the pumps with slug, the range you get is pretty amazing and you'll get plenty of kills that are hitmarkers with default spread. That said, the random spread of the slug when first going to ADS misses so often in CBQ. It gets very frustrating. Reminds me of trying to QS in BO1 at release - the slug will frequently go off to the side of the target even though you are ADS at center mass. Steady Aim helps with this. Slugs do have a place in HC, which is OSK at longer ranges than normal. The frustration of all of the other side-effects are not worth it, though.

Yeah, lmgs are fantastic in hc. No reload ever. Chainsaw is unbelievable too.

I thought hc was 40 hp this time around? Have been playing with the Remington under that assumption.

Health is 30, a silenced MR-28 (minimum damage of 34) will never get hitmarkers even at insane ranges unless your shot touches something else before it hits the enemy.
No reason to use the semi-auto attachment. Between the MR-28 and regular assault rifles it has no niche purpose.
