I am suspect of any dedicated servers being used at all. In any serious session i have done (over 3+ hours, like during clan wars), i routinely get a few host migrations. IMHO, i don't think they are using any dedis.
And there are also two issues going on here.
1. The question of how much of a bigger (if any) net AW's SBMM criteria is casting on players. The net might be stopping players of 'x' skill (a mix of high prestige, KD, SpM, etc...) from seeing the left-most tail of a normal distribution curve, the left-most players being those with the least skill (low KD's, zero prestige, etc...) These high skill players aren't necessarily getting equal opponents, but more so just getting slightly less scrubs over the course of a few hour session. That's the key. It's not the similar like-kind opponents that annoy these players, but the lack of pure noobs they see over a few hours. The followup to this part is just what defines a 'high skill' player, which has been debated ad-naseum. It's been said by Treyarch in the past that very few players get caught in this net.
2. The second issue is this, which probably IS more relevant. How much of the above process is causing a dislocation amongst the matchmaking process. There very well could be some small 'upgraded' version of SBMM that is casting say a 3% wider net on players, but for the most part, very few if any players are seeing it. So it's effects are negligible. But.... that new version MIGHT be casting a bigger influence on the matchmaking in terms of lag. It might be forcing players to play a bit more 'out of region', thereby creating more uneven gameplay via lag. If you increase this factor, it could create the illusion of facing harder opponents, when in reality a person is just seeing 'x'% more laggy games, making his results poorer. Same end result, but coming from a different problem.

That was from the asset dump. Directly from the game code. That's an actual error code you can get from the game. Can't wait for the SBMM deniers to try and recover from that. SBMM is heavily factored into AW's matchmaking. It is NOT the one and only reason the game is lagging, but it definitely exists.

I don't think anyone is still denying SBMM exists in CoD. The only plausible argument that SBMM doesn't exist would be that the facility exists but is configured off. And that would be clutching at straws. SBMM is heavily factored into AW's matchmaking. "Heavily" is subjective. We do know that AW has parameters for Ghosts and BOII skill. Previous CoD games (except for the first two) could have also done this. Just because it wasn't previously uncovered doesn't mean that it didn't work the same way. However, my personal guess is that they have changed the way SBMM works in AW versus previous CoD. However, again, if they have changed the way SBMM works in AW, this doesn't mean the effects are stronger or weaker than previously. It would mean there is a possibility that they've come up with something that works worse than previous games, or has bugs, simply by the act of changing it. Again, though, we don't actually know. We can guess, but we don't have any real facts. It is NOT the one and only reason the game is lagging, but it definitely exists. First and foremost, the game lags because we're playing over the Internet, with its inherent latency, dropped packets, jitter, etc. That said, CoD does have some quirks, such as noticeable "lag" on splitscreen (it does take some time for the console to react to the input from one player and display this to the other, but the "lag" on ovenbakedmuffin's video from a year or two ago seemed to go some way beyond that). It doesn't help that CoD has had some major connection fails at release in the past. It's weird that some people (such as me) have had consistently unplayable connections for the first month of AW release, whereas others have had no problems at all, with no obvious reason (such as platform) for the difference; this leads to SBMM as a possible cause, because it's whole purpose is to bias game selection based on you personally, unlike all the other factors in matchmaking which have nothing to do with you as an individual. When you have a matchmaking system that looks at your own stats, it does lead to the self-centric perception that "I'm being given bad connections because of my stats", "I'm being punished for good stats by being put into significantly tougher than average lobbies", etc.; it makes any frustration personal.

There are no 'SBMM deniers' on this board if you actually read the posts people put up. At least people who think. Everyone knows it's been in the game (coding) since MW1. David Vanderhaar said as much. The proper way to phrase things is by questioning the extent and reach of SBMM. How big of a net does it cast, when it's criteria captures people? That's what to ask. David Vanderhaar's BO2 supposedly caught very few people in it's version (his quote) and even when it did, it didn't force their supposed 'great' CoD players to play just top people....it only lowered their probability to match up against the worst of the CoD world. The rest of your comment? That game cod picture you refer to shows absolutely NOTHING in regards to answering how big of a net SBMM casts. Only that it exists. But we already knew that, so that info means nothing.

SBMM has actually been in the game since Call of Duty 2.

Only thing i can say is that i plainly suck at this game compared to past cods, but i know for a fact that i do primarily for my wacky gun choices (shotguns (until disgusted) and then XMGs and) and my horrible positioning. As in i get "swarmed" by enemies every time i get a kill, the enemies are everywhere etc... the classical symptoms of bad positioning. Then a major part of it is surely the new movement as i still have to adapt to a three dimensional shooting space from a two dimensional one.
What i don't like is that SHG decided for some reason to pull back some neat features BO2 had for PC (like the damn FPS counter, HOW HARD CAN THAT BE) that made connection parameters clearer. The ping number that is acutally a number mainly... Now they say the game uses dedicated servers of some sort but i still see Host migrations in lobbies (never ingame tho), but generally i do get good matches connection wise.
Lastly, I want to throw this little story to you, possible thanks to the ridicolously small playerbase on PC. There's this guy called Pryzmian that I've seen in two past CODs (BO2 and goats) that is an absolute NIGHTMARE to play against. He is decently skilled, but knows his positions very well and always uses optimal class setups. He had a KD of fucking FIVE in BO2, i imagine this is probably true for AW as well. Guess what, i sometimes get matched with him in AW, despite my terrible stats overall. He is French AFAIK so it's resonably close to me (Italy).
This little anedoct makes me think that SBMM in nowhere as strict as some people make it out to be, but that's just my exp.

so michael condrey has just said that matchmaking in advanced warfare is 50% based on connection and 50% based on "skill."

No. Your "facts" are simply not accurate. BO2 until late in its life cycle when the player count was extremely small. Maybe this has already been discussed, but how is the above proof? There's some code. And Drifter talking about how he has the code. Ok? So what. We know that code has been in CoD since MW1 (at a minimum). We don't "know" anything. Something was said in a vague tweet. Doesn't make it true.

I decided to pull out my second gamertag that I hadn't used since Ghosts. This account had a 2.4 KD on Ghosts and a 2.9 KD and 580 SPM on BO2. I noticed my first game on AW in the Moshpit was with all level 10s or below. I was already familiar with the game so I made quick work of them and backed out. Found similar lobbies for the next few games but started noticing more and more higher leveled/skilled players, finally every lobby was ALL very high level/skill. It pains me to say this but my next step was killing myself about 1,000 times in the name of science. Brought my KD down from around 1.8 to 0.5. I continually cycled through lobbies after each game of killing myself and whattdya know, the lobbies continually progressed into lower level/skill players. By the time my KD was at .5, every single player in every single lobby was basically a brand new player.
I really wanted to take my opportunity to destroy them but instead just navigated the map and observed the other players. Most of these players clearly had no idea what they were doing, let alone what planet they were currently on. I went 0-0 in a game of Domination just boosting around the map and avoiding gunfire.
But you guys are right, "Skill" isn't the main factor in matchmaking.

I made a couple junk accounts on PSN and have to say, the game is a hell of a lot more enjoyable on reverse boosted accounts. It's not something I'd want to do always, but just playing on the junk acccounts knife only/sniping/shotgun? It's actually enjoyable.

Looks like a somewhat passive reverse boosting system is in place. It kicks you. Not sure what the trigger is. Might be about 15 suicides, then it waits like 30 seconds and kicks you.
EDIT: Yep, I killed myself like 9 times in quick succession, waited, no kick. Did another 5, no kick. Did another, (no kick?) but did one more (possible miscount) and was kicked 45 seconds later.
For the first 9 I did nothing gameplay wise aside from cap a flag, after 15 suicides I killed like 10 people, yet it still decided that going 10:1 is kick worthy after that 16th suicide. (overall stats were ~10:25)

works great for me, I have a room mate that plays on my account (says he likes my guns better) when I'm at work. So on my days off my K/D is lower and I end up in noob lobbies for a while. LOL!
