Having played for several hours now, I'm significantly more optimistic about Battlefront's longevity. Even with the (extremely) limited amount of content in the beta, my friends and I are still having a lot of fun on Hoth. I'm even enjoying the Imperial/Rebel imbalance, as Imperial play allows for easy pubstomping and Rebellion play scratches my "O.B.J. all day" itch. I know a common complaint is that the core gameplay feels a bit archaic, but since Battlefront 1 and 2 were both dead before I started playing MP games extensively, the third person/no ADS mechanic has actually been a nice change of pace for me. A lot will depend on the rank cap and card/weapon variety, but I imagine that I will easily get enough enjoyment out of Battlefront to justify a purchase.
Oh, and the chaos that comes with defending the uplinks is fantastic. I'll just leave this here:

I enjoyed the holy shit out of Hoth. I mean, srsly... This is THE battle from Star Wars that I've always wanted to play in a video game. The atmosphere of it is great. And I like the asymmetry. It is unbalanced, but I actually got used to that and it kinda worked... for now. It was cool feeling like you were part of this badass Imperial army just throwing hardware and firepower at the problem. I mean... the rebels did "lose" this battle after all. (Technically there was never any question of making a stand and they were able to evacuate and regroup so it was kind of a win.) Playing a rebel you feel the desperation. It feels like you have your back to the wall and you have to go out there and really work your butt off. Having said that I've seen the first walker go down startlingly fast so with some teamwork the rebs can actually put up quite a fight. I won a couple of games as the rebels. It's not easy, but damn it's rewarding taking down those walkers.
I'm concerned about content, though. As much as I love the Hoth battle it's the only map with this gametype, and it looks like each gametype only has one map. That doesn't bode terribly well IMO. People usually find a favorite game mode or couple and stick to those, but with only one map per that's going to get really old. I love the Hoth battle, but I will definitely get sick to death of it sooner or later. I'm not sure how many weapons or how much customization we'll have either. A lot remains to be seen.
I kind of like the take on sniping where you only get 1 shot every 7 seconds and it takes up a card slot. I'm not a huge fan of the shields, but that's mostly because 90% of the time rather than protecting us they actually just served to gather a bunch of us together for a thermal detonator to wipe us out... yay. heh
I wish they would tone down some of the HDR glare when looking outside from the caves. Yes I get that it's much brighter outside, but I felt like it's easier to see in than out, which is bass ackwards. Frankly I think it gives the people outside more of an advantage pinning you down even though they have less cover. They don't need the cover since.
I'm looking forward to this, but I'm gonna have to wait. I'm afraid I would burn out on it too quickly if that's all I was playing and BO3 seems like a cool guy so mebbbe I'll get that first.

I don't know where you got the idea that there will be only one map per game type. The point of the beta isn't to let you play all the maps, Battlefield Hardline only had two maps in its beta too and it launched with 8 total. www.ign.com/articles/2015/05/04/star-wars-battlefront-features-12-multiplayer-mapsSo 4 base planets providing the setting for the 12 base maps (an additional planet offering 2 more maps will be free DLC content post-launch), with each planet having 1 Walker Assault map. Looks to me like it will be 4 Walker Assault only maps (need the large, linear space for AT-ATs) + 8 maps for the rest of the game modes.

A very short review by casual gamer that has never played the battlefield games but is a Star Wars fan:
It entertains me enough to play it a few hours at a time. And when in a party is can be great fun (to compete on who curses at the frustrating game the most). Beautiful visuals and sound, The Wife has prohibited us from playing it without the headset, the thermal detonator using a Bose system will shake your house and scare small dogs (and small humans I imagine).

The idea of a game focused on the original Star Wars Trilogy in this day and age is endearing, and of all developers DICE would probably be the one studio that could take on such a feat and win out. Anyone who loves Star Wars is going to like this game.
I've tapped into a lot of discussion on this, and the same things pop up a lot. All the FPS elements in this game are dated, and shooter fanatics have made it very clear that there isn't much to like about this game in terms of mechanics. DICE isn't screwing this up incidentally; they're likely neglecting mechanics for heavy top-down design had to have been a deliberate compromise. I mean, blasters shouldn't have recoil, right?
Overall I'd say this game is intended to be a flash in the pan, and unless money is no object it's hard to justify the price tag for the content on offer. Still, it's a member of the Star Wars franchise that's worth holding on to.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it because I am a Star Wars fan and I did not pay for it, my son got it as a birthday gift.

I was planning on picking up the Ultimate digital edition on Black Friday given some sale reduction, but it didn't receive any discount so I passed in favor of picking up the Ultimate edition of Forza Horizon 2 which was 50% off ($45.00). I was also contemplating buying the digital Destiny: The Taken King expansion (the price was reduced $10 due to sale or from a timed drop - $29.99) and GOTY edition for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor as it was 50% off too; thus far I've held off on either decision, but if the 50% deal for Shadow of Mordor is still in place tonight I may yet opt to get it.
I really want to get the Ultimate edition of Star Wars Battlefront, but it's just way too expensive IMO right now at $120. I'm hoping that over the Xmas holiday period it might receive some sort of price break which will entice me into getting it.

Wheeee! I've been enjoying this game. I'm glad Black Ops 3 just came in for me, though. On it's own I'd get burned out on this, but if I mix it up with BO3 it should keep my interest a good while.

I'm disappointed nobody is metagaming it here, though. heh I want more data. Not that it's a tryhard kinda game, but I just like to have good data for my builds.

My review after three matches on Battle of Jakku on PS4: Go for objective and die from snipers and lose match, or have fun sniping from the edges of the map forgetting about the objective and lose anyway. Not sure there is anything else I can say other than its visually pretty.

This is a great game. Easy to play and be competitive. I don't feel the need to grind it like COD too, and can just 'fly casual' around the amazing maps.

Someone should bake them a cake to celebrate having the most downvoted comment ever.

And here I thought Ubisoft's "Q&A with the Devs" for TCGR:W was bad.
Hayzeus J. Cryst, was that a very very poor response. I hope someone is unemployed as a result of this. Or at least moved to the basement and is worried about people taking their red stapler.

Was it a bad response? I thought it was actually pretty creative. What are they supposed to say? "We want to suck the money out of the community like a casino does"? The problem is the actions, not the words they use to justify it.

The problem is the actions, not the words they use to justify it. The response is officially the most downvoted comment in the history of reddit. There has been no other comment in the history of reddit, that was worse. So... yes: it was a bad response. In fact, it was the worst. Literally: the worst. It has the numbers to back it up too; it's close to half a million downvotes.

Well the number of people who don't like it doesn't really have any bearing on how good the response was. My bet is any response short of "we're taking it out of the game, you guise are so right" was destined to be met with universal disapproval since people are getting sick of this shit.

LOL. Fuck this game and fuck EA. I'm thrilled that it seems everyone is still pissed about all the P2W loot crate BS and they haven't been placated by EA's 75% cost reduction on hero characters. Speaking of which, they reduced the cost of Iden (main campaign character) down to 5,000 credits instead of 20,000...great. But then of course they also reduced the 20,000 credit reward for completing the campaign down to 5,000. Heaven forbid you actually give players a little something extra to get started. Also, somebody did that math and apparently it would take over 4,000 hours of playtime to upgrade all the star cards in the game to the max if you didn't purchase any crates with real money. That's 18 months playing 8 hours every single day. I mean what the actual fuck? They're doing a reddit AMA tomorrow too, that should go well LOL.

I used to see cooldowns in the crummy F2P games I played back when I was a preteen. I'm not sure whether to laugh or be pissed off at the idea that someone as big as EA is getting away with this on a premium $60 title.
Also I've read they reduced the amounts of credits needed to unlock certain heroes by 75%. So they went around saying that they did that, but also 'secretly' reduced the amount of credits earned by players by 75%.
