I never bothered with Prestiging in MW1 because having a different emblem next to my name just wasn't enough of a lure to justify having to unlock everything all over again. I've heard rumors though that Prestiging in MW2 gets you additional custom class slots and opens up new challenges. Can anybody confirm any of this?

Custom class slots, emblems, titles, and challenges.

I still don't see it as having enough lure.

Hrm. Well, I might do it once, just to unlock the challenges and get a sixth custom slot. Anything past that seems unnecessary.

the challanges are just to cut down on the time it takes to re-level.
barring something major in the later prestieges, im not doing it anymore. done it once & i can live with 6 slots.

It would be really nice to have the extra custom class slots (say, so I could have an AR class with a blast shield handy), but I think it's just ridiculous that you have to go through all the damn unlock grinding over again and a real dick move by IW to try and boost long term numbers.

I guarantee you that most people who are going to prestige don't do it for the custom class slots, and if you are prestiging just to get custom class slots, you are probably the kind of person who would have been a long term player, prestige or not. Deductive reasoning win.

It's convenience and vanity, I wouldn't call it an ADVANTAGE unless they start offering Prestige players something that's actually functional, like weapons, attachments, perks, or whatnot that others don't get. I don't really see that happening. I'm willing to Prestige once just to unlock the challenges, and an extra custom slot is nice, but it's not really necessary.

I heard earlier that 10th prestige gets another kill-streak slot...more than likely bullshit but not many people are there yet so who knows.

^ the rumor was also that 10th prestiege got "masterkey" which would unlock any locked door on the maps. Yet... "Masterkey" is the name of the under barrel shotgun on AR's LoL!

Having twice as many class slots is definitely a tangible advantage with all the customization options, especially things like blast shields, stingers, and sit rep that are a total waste of space on your class unless you fight a lot of noob tubers, have to deal with harriers/choppers, or have nasty claymore/C4 campers.
And don't even get me started on one man army, that perk benefits a ton from extra class slots.

What advantage do they have? How many people ever use more than 5 classes in a single match? They have a CONVENIENCE that you don't have, but it's hardly a competitive advantage since you can easily just change up your classes between matches. Besides, the fact that they're putting ridiculous amounts of time into the game sort of gives them a far bigger advantage than a 6th custom class slot.

thats my point too. i promise i am THE largest 1MA whore youll meet. and i got by with 5 slots only ever rotating 1 out for the odd-match. you're not going to level & use every gun.
who knows, maybe ill want 7, later, but 6 is more than i use now. I mean 3 classes for guns im leveling, a default hoe class and a riot shield i never use lawlz

what typically happens for me is i 1MA just to ensure infinate ammo. then on the odd case I find myself in the middle of the map looking at spawns I may 2x claymore myself in, drop a tactical insert & pull out a burst firing M21.
Lets face it I just used like 2 classes to fight my way to a campy spawn sniper spot & claymore/TI in.

does anyone know at what prestige levels do you unlock the extra custom slots... obviously the first prestige unlocks a sixth custom slot but does the 2nd prestige unlock a seventh custom slot or do you have to get to a 3rd or 4th prestige b4 unlocking another one... I know it was something like that for CoD: W@W.

I have no ID... only in first yet. But ppl, I think prestiging is just the joy of starting all over again... I putted COD WaW away when I was lvl 65 10th prestige because there was no more fun for me. Thats why Im glad with all the challenges I can do after lvl 70 10th prestige now but starting all over is fun, and it makes you use some other weapons to again

I don't actually care for the starting all over... I like to unlock the extra custom slots but not enough to go through all 70 ranks 2 - 3 times just for one extra custom slot. However, the new emblems and titles give another reason to do this so depending on my love for the game as time goes on will probably be the biggest deciding factor as Halo 3 & ODST, plus, soon a new Battlefield, Splinter Cell and then Halo: Reach will probably draw me away more and more often and have me less and less excited to unlock new things. Anyways the point was I was looking for a list at which prestige levels you unlock custom slots. Does anybody know?

Splinter Cell Conviction looks incredible. I'll also be getting AC2, BF:BC2, L4D2, and Just Cause 2.

Is it really that hard to understand what prestige mode is all about? dictionary.reference.com/browse/PrestigeI prestige for the PRESTIGE factor. It's in the goddamn name. I like making people 'wow', I like having huge goals to shoot for, I like having a bunch of flashy callsign material. I'm 2nd prestige, lv45, and would be even further if my stats had not been randomly reset during a computer crash. I intend to go all the way to 1070 legit and I also intend to complete every single challenge in the game legit.
