For pump action shotguns, I can see your guys points here, but I still feel like an infinite range, decent RPM cap, semi-auto shotgun would break balance in some way. I've never played Battlefield, so I can't comment on how shotguns operate there. On another note, am I the only person worried that the KSG is going to be complete trash compared to the scopeless Ballista in BO2??

The pumps with slugs or flechette are the only shotguns to get any descent performance out of. It depends. The ballista will only be a one shot to the torso and up. The ksg might do 100 damage per shot for a certain range, allowing it to kill to the limbs. It also has a tighter hipspread, and hopefully a faster fire rate.

However, I've heard rumors about it being a hitmarker machine up close.

Where are the BOps 2 specific shotgun stats coming from? The S12 looks like it has similar stats to the SPAS in black ops, which wasn't bad. Why is it such a hit marker machine in the videos posted online?

But doesn't it have the same hipfire spread as the black ops spas? I never aimed down sight with that gun.

The BLOPS Spas has a much smaller hip spread than the S12.

Mega's spreadsheet says both are 8. Is the 8 for the Saiga a placeholder and we're assuming it's higher?

Maybe I'm wrong. But we don't know exactly yet. It does look visually bigger though.

BO2 stats are guesses and speculation. Frankly, I think my assumptions were very conservative, except for the ADS spread, which is very liberal. I still feel like an infinite range, decent RPM cap, semi-auto shotgun would break balance in some way. I have mathematically demonstrated that they would be laughably bad.

I lied. I vastly overestimated the power of the new shotguns.
I have failed you, my brothers.

In a week's time I'll remember how all power the MW3 AA-12 was. Damn was that gun good.

@killer
R870-Pump Action AA-12 w/ only 7 pellets
Saiga-AA-12 w/ less DMG and lower RPM
M1216-AA-12 w/ less DMG, more spread, lower RPM and 4 round mag(Might as well be a 4 round mag)

We have been through this once already. It will not happen a second time.

Well the bright side is that every shotgun in BLOPSMKII will remind me of the AA-12.

The USAS-12 DMG was actually a good gun and a peer to SMGee's. The Saiga? Not so much.

I just did some real life testing on my 870 with buckshot. I was able to get sub 9 inch diameter grouping at 25 yards with custom load 00 buckshot with flight control wads. If you are wondering that is about .5 degrees of spread. Not to mension maintaining a lethal velocity out to 57 meters. I always laugh when people say shotguns are only lethal for like 20 feet in real life. Want to stand 21 feet away from me and test it?Pump shotguns should be lethal in the hands of a skilled player. Bf3 spas with slugs is begining to get it. High skill+spas with slugs = a good time. For mw3's small maps shotgun range is okay (could definitely be better) but it doesn't have the power in that range that it needs. Who says that? Shotguns, depending on the load, have an effective range of over 200 yards. People hunt deer with slugs at ranges of 50 to 100 yards, and consistently 1 shot kill. Dumb people are dumb.

People, very commonly, will state that shotgun ranges are actually portrayed somewhat accurately in video games.

I have, but not exactly the way Megaqwerty is saying.
More like, "shotguns dont have that much range IRL"

Given the dimensions of most Call of Duty maps, realistic implementions of the weapons would infinitely favor shotguns.
That would be funny.

I really really hope people understand you can shoot further than the other side of the street in real life.

Clearly dual wielding 1200 RPM machine pistols is effective in real life.

I would prefer they make shotguns strong enough to compete with primaries. The shotgun secondary has too much room for abuse and it leads to unnescessary shotgun hate.

The point is the secondaries in mw2 were good enough to blur class lines. A sniper can drop an smg guy in cqc with his spas and give little chance to retaliate. An smg guy can rafica a sniper at long range with little difficulty. The classes were complete and thats the problem. Player skill is far less relivent when you have weapons that are dominant/competent at every range. Why be good if you can just take better weapons?
At one point I had all 10 of my classes linked with one man army.
