Have to agree regarding the mini map. Along with the chart, that's arguably the most useful image I've seen relating to MW2, and it really puts things into perspective with regards to range and damage. I never realised that the SMG range was that bad in reality. It's also helped me understand why shots I thought were guaranteed kills weren't. Top work Snakex, good man

snakex - Du bist mein Held! Grossartig gemacht. (translation: You'r my hero - very well done!) I have done also some "research" on PC version regarding the weapon speed and the rate of fire without reloading. In some few occasions you might want to know how fast does your weapon deliver the bullets. This is not as important compared what you did - from your tests I have learned much more than from mine. Anyhow.... img69.yfrog.com/i/test3i.jpgI measured the time how long does it take to empty the magazine. The column kill shows how long it would take - based on my calculations to reach 100 damage when full auto. Which is only important for close range battles. SP= stopping power kill= time to reach at least 100 dmg kill SP = time to reach at least 100 dmg with stopping power rapid fire = time to reach at least 100 dmg with stopping power and rapid fire Column "Kick" is my personal view of how bad (1=good 5= bad) the kick/recoil of the weapon behaves looking at the marks on a wall. (no attachments) (question: who says hit-marks on wall are the same on a player... anyhow - lets assume they are) Theoretically, just looking at damage and speed, best assault (non burst like m16,famas) rifle is TAR - if you can handle the recoil - which I cant, so bursts and single tapping for far distances is probably a good idea. so summing up... this shows not which is the best weapon - because it depends on play style / skill. they all have their places and pros. Summary what I have learned from my data: 1. SMG have an edge over assault rifes in close combat - only when you use Rapid Fire + Stopping Power - but shotties are proabably still better. 2. Given that you use stopping power the difference of ROF of each AR is negletable. (Accuracy is more important.) (just the f2000 I found very useless in all the testings, high recoil and low base dmg (30)..... but maybe IW change it) Some might say my test results and seconds vary much to other test results - that might be the case - but does not matter as I have a proably the same "error" in all my testings. I tested on 2 days everything twice with the same method - shooting in the same direction. So whatever I doing wrong I did wrong in all cases. All this testing is pretty useless if I hear AKIMBO +FMJ has more range on M1887 than without. Who knows maybe Glock18 has a sniper range with Fall Camouflage if you have Killstreak X waiting ? test done a PC game - version 1.0.174 img255.yfrog.com/img255/7451/test2dq.jpg u don´t need to translate it for me, i´m german and thx for find it out, but i need actually XBOX stats. and to find ROF stats out, i need a capture card. or anyone can send me vids from a capture cards or do it by himself and send me the data;)

Niiiiice mini map. No wonder I've felt the FAMAS was always better than the M16.
I'm assuming units are universal in all maps?

Units are, but the minimaps displayed on screen are not a consistent scale.

Great chart we all appreciate your work, but there is something i am a bit confused about. The values in between max and min damage. I was under the impression the guns simply did max damage at close range and min damage and the long range cutoff and beyond. Does the damage drop off incrementally actually? Like in the case of the mp5k is there a specific distance at which it does each of the various damages listed? Thanks.

A weapon will do max damage out to it's max damage range and the damage will then drop 1 by 1 (decimals are truncated) all the way down until approximately the min damage range (it will get truncated just before the actual min damage range) at which point it will do the minimum damage out to infinity unless it's a shotgun and then it does zero damage.
Well I should say out to theoretical infinity since obviously no map has infinite size. In fact you cannot shoot the AC130 with guns at all, but it's not due to any inherent limitation on the bullet hitscans. There does seem to be a range outside the maps where you can no longer fire. If you elevator out of the map far enough you'll be unable to shoot. This may be what prevents any bullets hitting the AC130 or it may simply be impervious to them even if it was sitting right in the middle of the map.
The sudden 1 meter 5 damage drops in the charts do not seem to be accurate, but are more a reflection of the places where it suddenly requires more hits to kill.

i think the better way to descibe it is that once you've gone from the actual playing area into the skybox, you can no longer fire back into it, barring you're in an ac130u

I wasn't able to manage to get out of the map and got tired of trying. heh I elevatored on Skidrow, but it didn't go all the way up so it wasn't any good. I also did it on Subpen, but was only able to get up, and not out. I did shoot at an AC130 from the altitude just to test but it was no different than shooting from the ground. I did have an emergency airdrop fly practically through me, though. heh I wasn't expecting it and didn't see if it actually flew through me or under me or what, just saw it was really close.

snakex"u don´t need to translate it for me, i´m german" Only the German was for you - the translation for the OTHER guys :-D not for you. Some questions for all: 1. what is a "head glitch" ? (a person standing in front of boxes same hight as the model and he shoots into the house on "Estate" from the garage.) 2. What is speed scoping? 3. The results of one system say Xbox are "close" to others PC? e.g. Akimbo M1887 +FMJ on all systems "beneficiary" or just on xbox? 4. I would love to re-configure on "PC" ESC "togglemenue" key - is there a way to do this? (the config file I found did not do anything) Thanks in advance - you are all a great forum with great users.

Some questions for all: 1. what is a "head glitch" ? (a person standing in front of boxes same hight as the model and he shoots into the house on "Estate" from the garage.) Basically a situation where you are in cover and only your head is visible to them, but you can still fully aim. Take a look at this video for a decent example: Can't help with the other 2 though.

yes thanx indy in the vid at 3:45 he says what quickscoping is:
"click the left (I assume this is on xbox zoom) - then shoot and as soon you 've shot, zoom out. "
That is how I understand his words.

Basically, although he's quickscoping himself all the way through the video I've always been the type of sniper who picks a spot, settles down, and then looks through the scope waiting for an enemy to appear in the area where I've aimed. Quickscoping is way different as the amount of time looking down the scope is minimal, you're basically "pre-aiming" beforehand, then quickly scoping in to make any minor adjustment, and firing ASAP, and off goes the scope as soon as you've fired (as you correctly interpreted). This is why quickscoping snipers can be a real pain to deal with, because they're usually aiming at the same speed as an AR user, but getting a one hit kill... Not that easy a skill to get good with however, unless you put in plenty of practice and get used to a higher than normal sensitivity.

I've always been the type of sniper who picks a spot, settles down, and then looks through the scope waiting for an enemy to appear in the area where I've aimed. Oh, you mean a bad sniper. You shouldn't aim down the sights unless you're actually targeting an enemy. You're better off not scoped so you can pay attention to the UAV and so you can watch for any motion. If you scope in, you can only acquire enemies in an extremely narrow area. If you don't scope in until you've already acquired an enemy, you can acquire enemies in a massive area.

That's right ;D I never claimed to be a great sniper, but I always did fairly well using this method in the CS glory days, but never compared to the top players who did railgun. It's more a mental attitude to this that makes me play that way, and for some reason I play as though I was sniping in real life where you do spend quite a bit of time looking through the scope because otherwise you'd never see anyone at typical sniper range. This doesn't translate anywhere near as well into a game which isn't ultra realistic (but is usually way more fun...)

question for snake, just wondering how did you test the range for the famas and m16? Does the halo on the m16 extend the 40 damage range to that of the famas?

Did you test all weapon's single attachment damages over range to find the FAL holographic damage boost, or is more testing still needed to find other similar damage &/or range boosts?

The Holo sight only increases the minimum range of the FAL to 40, so with Stopping Power and a Holo it will 2 hit kill across the map.
Hope that helps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the FAMAS's max range at which it does 40 damage be totally useless?
From personal experience, it takes 2 bursts at 45m~ (max range where 40 damage still occurs) to take someone down due to deviation of the bullets. So the M16 is still just as good, if not better due to its quicker reload.

No, you're discounting the deadzone between the M16 and Famas, where there is a range that will kill in one burst from the Famas, and two with the M16.

At progressively longer ranges the burst weapons will tend to miss 1 bullet out of the burst. With SP that means that at long range the weapon goes from a 1 burst kill to a 2 burst kill. The extra range means that you can still miss 1 bullet and kill at a greater range.
Oh the other hand the M16 with Holographic becomes more accurate, making it possible to land all 3 hits from the burst at greater ranges.

You can hit with all 3 bullets at max 40 damage range with FAMAS, too.

The FAL is still heavily inferior to the FAM16, it's just less inferior with a holo sight.

There is a trick you can use to singlefire the burst weapons, though it's a hipfire shot and thus rather inaccurate. Just hold down the trigger and anytime after the burst doubleclick weapon switch and you'll get a single hipfire shot each time.

i use a other trick to make a 1shot. shoot 1burst, in the burst press the weapon switch button 2 times. then u can aim to the enemy and press fire, to shoot only 1bullet. but only one time
when u double tap, switch weapon button, during the 1shot u can shoot 1 bullet again
