Just how grindy is it to play both versions? That's a great question! Let's see, number of hours Destiny played, from XONE phone app: Me (GT = WittyScorpion72): 1099 hours Dumien (GT = Post IXI Mortem): 1523 hours iw5000 (GT = StoneColdLoad): 1417 hours I've managed to put around 400 hours into Battlefield Hardline combined on PS4 and Xbox One. Keep in mind though the time reported by XONE app is known to have bugs (at least for me Titanfall's game play time stopped incrementing long before I stopped playing), so take the number with grain of salt. For example: I have hard time time believing Post "only" played 1.5x more than I do, it should have been at least 3x. Need some help here, after looking at this further. I'm not understanding this. I got the following information from the Phone App,..Bungie.Net. This is what it shows. ( ) is when I started that character. Warlock - 304 hours (Started Mid Sep - average of 6.9 hours a week) Hunter - 120 hours (Started Mid Feb - average of 5.6 hours a week) Titan - 111 hours (Started Mid Apr - average of 8.5 hours a week) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Total - 535 hours - 12.2 hours a week The time measurement, taken from XBoxLive recording of my time in the Destiny game...it shows 1,523 - 34 hours a week. But....I originally I used one character the first month or so. Then I made a second and third warlocks. When? The second character was around after mid/late Oct, and the third at the beginning of November. I got both going, after doing my first VoG on 10-14. I realized I needed more attempts at Gear. (I had an hunter originally made with Warlock #1, but never even finished the intro story with it ) So Warlock three was only used like 3 months, and just mostly for raiding, getting 3rd attempts. Probably had like 40 hours there. Warlock two, was fired in Mid April. So it was used six months. maybe 100 hours. Adjusted number. 535 + 140 = 675 ....that's about 15.3 hours a week. Which is about what I felt I played. Kind of matches up with my past CoD playing, which was probably in the 10 to 12 a week range. Maybe plus a fair amount more time. That sounds about right. I think. So how the Foxtrot did I get 1,523 hours played? Does that mean I have 848 hours of just sitting in the Tower? Like when I am not playing, waiting for people, leave the Xbox on all night, whatever.....it's timing that time too?

As I mentioned earlier: looks like the XONE app number is not to be trusted at all. So pardon me for bringing it up, just ignore that number for now.

As I mentioned earlier: looks like the XONE app number is not to be trusted at all. So pardon me for bringing it up, just ignore that number for now. Oh it's quite alright. I didn't have any perspective before....but once I started trying to digest the numbers, it just didn't seem to make any sense. At first I thought, that maybe I did play that much. But 1,523 hours? Like 34 hours a week? I don't think I could get that in, now that I started thinking about it. Like this week, I got like 1 on Monday, 3.5 hours on Tuesday, and like 5 last night. I won't be on until Sunday. So I'm around 9 this week, with Sunday left (I can't play Sat). To hit the Xbox average...I need to find another 25 hours of gaming in this week, before midnight Sunday. No way. Could that Xbox time clock...could it even be counting 'time played'...when you leave Xbox on, and Destiny is still up in the browser window? I don't really shut mine off that often. I will mostly at night, but if I get an hour on the game in the morning, I typically leave the Xbox on when I leave, Destiny up. Is that counting hours?

ok, thanks
Actually.....that kind of matched what i said before.
I came up with 675 estimated hours before.
Using your screen/app info, i came up with a total of 647 hours (a little less)...and an extra 177 hours of doing nothing, sitting around 'tower time'. This is if you just walk away from the console, leave it, etc....
I'm still short? So where are the extra 700 to 850+ hours being caculated from? Using the XBOX1 calculated time? Is there a secret other person playing this game when i am not around?

So I tried and failed to get the uhhh... magical Hunter hat on Xbox. I guess if I had put those hours into my already level 20 PS4 Titan character I probably could have bought something from Xur, but I walked away with nothing. Oh well. That does bring me to one complaint though. Why the hell does Xur leave Saturday night (or Sunday morning technically)? Why doesn't he show up on Friday, and leave after the weekend so people can veg out with their Dewritos on their days off? Also, Destiny and Dumien especially is still pretty gay.

To answer your question....because for the longest time with this game, Bungie higher-ups were more concerned about trying to get their "Average Hours a Day Played" number up, rather than than worrying about the quality of time those players were having. That's why. That was the reality with this game. And with the last update (HoW), plus some other stuff, hopefully they realized what they were doing.

WHAT THE MOTHERFU CK I GO THROUGH AND DO THAT TEDIOUS DLC URN QUEST AND AT THE END IT'S LIKE FU CK YOU GO SEE XUR OH IT'S NOT FRIDAY OR SATURDAY WELL FU CK YOU NO PURPLE GLOVES FOR YOU, YOU PIECE OF SHIT It's Bungie's way of trying to make Xur relevant. That mission should always be dealt with by Eris.

WHAT THE MOTHERFU CK I GO THROUGH AND DO THAT TEDIOUS DLC URN QUEST AND AT THE END IT'S LIKE FU CK YOU GO SEE XUR OH IT'S NOT FRIDAY OR SATURDAY WELL FU CK YOU NO PURPLE GLOVES FOR YOU, YOU PIECE OF SHIT ^^ This The above is why you should ask first about what you are doing in this game. Ask us on here. Remember what I said last week? There is a TON of wasteful stupid shit that Bungie put in this game to make you grind, solely for the purpose of grinding. Remember...one of Bungie's main goals in this game when it came out, was solely to get people to spend more hours more day playing, than their competitors. Go google Bungie press releases. You'll see it plastered everywhere. "Destiny players now average three hours a day playing. Yay!!!" Seriously, Bungie developers masterbate to those stats. So you need to be careful, especially so when navigating the waters you are in. The Xur quest is a classic example. Tons of work and effort for what is next to no payoff.

And the gloves you get are only have 33 light points, so won't even help you get to 34 (or 33 or 32...)...

Yeah, but you start the quest there and he went apeshit over having to end it there. heh I'm no fan of Xur fecking off during the week, but at the very least I would say this quest is very predictable.

And the gloves you get are only have 33 light points, so won't even help you get to 34 (or 33 or 32...)... Well, nothing beats free and this gauntlet is good enough to push into level 30+ range Pegasus Actual: one thing you may want to consider at this point is to start your 2nd character. It may sound undesirable to replay all the missions you have just gone through, but it will pay dividend down the road. If you are not totally against this idea, you'll have a choice to make: Option 1: start a new class. The pros here is that you'll be able to enjoy a very different aspect of the game, the cons here is that you won't be able to share anything between your two characters; Option 2: same class as your first character, but a different subclass (in your case: a bladedancer hunter). At this juncture this might be the way to go because you'll be able to share almost everything between the 2 characters, which means that as soon as you get through first 20 level the 2 characters are instantly at the same level (by moving your armors with light back and forth). Also, Bladedancer plays quite differently from Gunslinger, so playing the first 20 levels through a fresh perspective won't feel too bad. Not to mention that Bladedancer is overall a much more versatile class than Gunslinger for both PvE and PvP. With this option: you can consider start your 3rd character on Hunter as well. Get through the first 20 levels so it can be at the same level as the other two, and leave it alone until TTK is out and immediately switch it to Nightstalker, the new Hunter subclass. By doing the above: you'll have 3 characters to play weekly content (all of the endgame content are on weekly cycle), and make much faster progress on things you need to grind. If you are playing dual platform on both PS4 and XONE, I would recommend to play Warlock or Titan on PS4 using a similar 3-character-with-same-class-different-subclasses strategy. As for the 3rd class: after you get one hunter on XONE progress through 2 subclasses, say Gunslinger and Bladedancer, you can then delete one of the redundant Hunter and replace it with the the class #3 that you have not played yet.

On a separate note: once you get to 28ish level, join our LFG thread so we can discuss getting together and raid VoG (Vault of Glass). Besides being the single best content from Year 1, it also drops some of the best legendary weapons in the game (Vision of Confluence, Fatebringer, Found Verdict, just to name a few).

Well, if I recall I 'bought' the Urn from Xur for one Strange Coin, Seemed logical enough to buy a quest item off of him seeing as his role seemed to be "guy who sells stuff" and not "guy you talk to at end of quests", and I wasn't going to get enough Strange Coins to buy any exotic crap off of him on my first weekend. I could have asked about it here I guess but time was an issue.
So the thinking was get 2x 75 mark Vanguard gear, 1x 120 mark Crucible gear, and then Urn gloves. I guess as you said it doesn't quite make a difference to my level if I get the gloves or not in the end as it's 33 not 36 and I already have some 25 light gloves. The most annoying thing is I have to hold on to this piece of shit wasting a slot in my inventory until Friday. Oh well.

If you are worried about the slots on your guardian (doubt that is a problem you need to worry about though), then just put the extras into your vault. Oh, just realized that you probably mean bounty slot. Well, in that case the thing will stay there until you can give it to Xur And just to beat the dead horse: while you are waiting start another character as Bladedancer . That way by Friday you'll have 2 28-30ish level characters instead of 1, and you can earn twice as many strange coins per week.

wittyscorpion, I started leveling Bladedancer on my same character, though I'm not quite done with Gunslinger as it turns out. Though I see what you're saying as far as grinding out gear for a single class on two characters, that's probably not the route I'll take. If I start another character now I'll just go Warlock. My Titan on PS4 is at level 20 and could probably use some love as well if I feel the need to do more than one character's worth of work this week. I didn't even consider that you can just throw bounty stuff into the vault, I had it in my head that the vault was for your equipment, and only your equipment for some reason.

I misunderstood what you mean earlier. You can't put bounty stuff in the vault, so you are stuck with the Urn thing until Xur can take it away. Regarding 2nd character: It's a tough choice for sure. If I were you I would be reluctant to start a character that I will eventually have to throw away. That said: having multiple characters on the same class definitely have huge advantages that are hard to ignore (by sharing one set of armors to stay on the same level). At this point your most wanted resource is Strange Coins. Having multiple characters can double or triple your weekly production, so getting through first 20 levels seems like a small price to pay. The last thing you want is to see a top tier exotic weapon on sale (say Gjallarhorn! ) but don't have enough coins to buy it. If you multiply your hunters by 3, you'll have the ability to earn 27 coins this week, enough to buy anything Xur offers. Regarding Bladedancer vs. Gunslinger: I would definitely advise to prioritize former over latter if you are doing them on the same character. For Gunslinger you are pretty operational with first and second row of the upgrade tree. For Bladedancer on the other hand you'll need to get deep into the third row or even full completion to maximize its potential.

I see what you mean. Getting to 20 isn't too horrible. The grinding out Vanguard rep was the real pain and now grinding out Crucible rep is the real pain it seems.

If you start a new class, you'll have to get the armor pieces again and that can be quite time consuming. Reuse the same class skip that pain for now. The main draw back for the same-class approach is that sooner or later (like after you rank up all 3 subclasses on a single character) you may want to throw away the Hunter clones and replace them with Warlock and Titan. It is an acceptable risk because: 1) you can do that once you are swimming in materials and currencies, so not able to run multiple endgame content per week is no longer a big deal; 2) you may not have the attention span on Destiny long enough for that to even matter; 3) the amount of throw away work is not a lot, relatively speaking;
