Bad news #2. gonna have a small culling on the xbox side because we hit max clan members. Apparently if we have max clan members we can't do carry nightfalls for the beta. SAD! We have some inactive players that are gonna get CULLED. I'll stop all PS4 invites. I want to make sure we'll atleast have room for TheHawkNY when the rest of his clan goes to PC in October. ty. sounds good. I cut a bunch of inactive players and people that just randomly joined when I had to open it up because of server issues that one day.

However. when we hit 67 members it wouldn't allow me to invite anyone else or do nightfall carries because of the aforementioned reason... 67 is a weird number for a cap. Initially I was thinking that we would have a higher max clan member # the higher our level? However, with the amount of glitches I've recently encounter I'm willing to chalk it up to a glitch. Edit: Oh another possibility. I cancelled 30ish unaccepted invites from the first week. These were mostly invites to try to rapidly grow our clan to get week 1's reward as fast as possible. It is possible that these invites counted as "reserved member slots" and deleting them freed up some space. Edit 2: Don't worry about the inactive players I cut. They were people who didn't get Destiny 2.

How are we looking for a blind raid? Tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday night?
I'm comfortably in the 280s regardless of loadout, so I'm set.

I'm good to go. I believe THebb is as well. Either day is fine with me, not sure on his end. I made a post on the clan chat thing but didn't get any response so far. Maybe we can coax Dumien into being a silent partner?

I would try to find a 6th without me, but I will try to be around for it. I'm definitely going to be busier now that I'm off my Destiny vacation.

Like I said, Packers on SNF so I'm happy to go after the game, which is like 11:30 EDT... or I guess tomorrow pretty much anytime should be doable. I'm a little thin on light level though, 275-ish. The game is a bit too boring right now for me to grind out any more.

I got home to late last night from kayaking, so couldn't get on. I'm still at 257/258. If I could figure out how to level up the next part of this game, I might be there in a few hours? Is that possible?

Is that possible? We could try to make a quick run through the Nightfall, which should boost you pretty well. The Hebbs and I did the Nightfall yesterday, and once we defeated thebb22 's connection issues, we won pretty handily. I have another character I could do it on.

Honestly I'm not in a huge rush. If we're going today, just let me know the time and I'm there.
From light 258 or so and I'm not an expert so disclaimer there but... I would do the EDZ blue world quest thing up until getting the legendary weapon reward, as that dropped at 265 for me and it was hard capped at that point, so no reason not to do that. Then maybe public events if you're not 259 yet... then have you been stockpiling tokens and/or gunsmith? If so I would cash all that shit in and get to 265. Make sure to check all your legendaries to see if they have purple weapon mods and LOCK them if so and keep them infused up to max level. Then maybe any Powerful Gear stuff you have available, e.g. the Nightfall Mal mentioned and do the other world quests to up your weapons slots some more (as apparently the others aren't 265-capped and will drop high for you).
Oh and if you have any legendary mods that aren't attached to gear, attach them to whatever you like and keep it infused up to max (for example if your gun is 266 with the mod, you can infuse a 263 without a mod into it making it 268, etc..) and use an exotic in some different slot as they come with the +5 mods already, and are generally easier to get than legendary mods. So for power level your exotics aren't the quarterback, they just come off the bench and play whatever role you need them in.
And if you're on the public events grind make sure to pop a uhhh... fireteam medallion from Tess as apparently that's something you're supposed to do that I haven't been doing. And my exotic drop rate has been a little shit because of it.
The reset will give us some nice free rewards as I'm sure the autistic segment of our new clan will quickly earn some bird-lady engrams. Then the nightfall reset. Actually I might grind up my second character hard tonight if anyone wants to do another Nightfall before the reset to help me optimize my light level a little. But as I was saying in another post somewhere, I haven't even fucked with the Crucible for the low hanging Powerful Gear reward there and I don't feel the least bit compelled to max out my efficiency by doing so. D2 definitely has less of a hold on me than TTK or even ROI did.

So that was fun last night, yeah? You guys have a preference for what day(s) this week would work for another run? I think I can make Thursday, Sunday, or Monday work.

I played a bit last night and went from 271 to 281. So I can officially raid without taking any penalties (I did the raid at 268 on Sunday)

If we're trying for today, let me know as I'll probably need an alarm for the 'nap' I'm going to need really really badly. I'm up to 288-ish though surely a bit less with a good loadout. So hopefully less dying in our near future.

So hopefully less dying in our near future. A question. A know for engram opening, the game takes your max highest level regardless of what load-out you are using. So if my current level is 281, the game recognizes that level at the cryptbro, even if I have equipment making me say 274. I think I have this right? But when doing the Raid...what if I use some weaker guns that I prefer to use. When using, my level drops to say 268...below the 270 threshold. Would I suddenly start being penalized? And that said, is there any benefit to using certain guns in the raid? What is the penalty range? Like under 270 incurs a % penalty? Or is it 280?

Good news: Fidelity has fixed my internet (for the time being). I'm back up to 14 meg instead of the measly .5 to 3.75 I had been getting. No more empty towers and broken, non-updating objectives for me!........Hopefully...

If you were Canadian, you could literally bring them to the courts and file a human rights claim and get a few pounds of backbacon and a bottle of pure maple syurp as compensation for this.

For all actual play (patrols, strikes, raid, whatever) the game works like it used to - your light/power level is determined by what you are currently wearing. So if you put crappier gear and weapons on, your performance will decline accordingly. So you should always wear your best gear for an activity like the raid. Obviously the exception is that you may need to modify your weapons loadout to make sure you have optimal tools. General consensus (based on my interpretation, anyway) seems to be optimal by class is (in rough order): Kintetic (primary): 1) Better Devils (hand cannon), 2) Nameless Midnight (scout), 3) Mida multi-tool (scout), 4) anything else you are comfortable with. Energy (secondary): 1) whatever compliments your kinetic... good options may include Coldheart (weird exotic ghostbusters gun), Mida mini-tool (smg), Uriel's Gift (AR), Riskrunner (smg), Seven-six-five (scout). In general, if you have a scout or pulse as your kinetic, then a fast ROF gun (smg, AR) as you energy is a good compliment. Or vice versa. Power (heavy): 1) Merciless (exotic fusion rifle), 2) The Wardcliff Coil (an exotic rocket launcher), 3) any other Rocket Launcher (Blueshift or Curtain Call are two good ones), 4) any fusion, sword, or shotgun ............ 999) grenade launcher (those things suck in my experience). And FYI, my loadout is Better Devils, Uriel's Gift, Merciless. Maybe Dumien will add to or critique my suggestions.

Ok...so is this how the raid goes?
If I am under 270, I will be penalized by a pct. Over 270 I am fine.....at least for the first two sections of the raid.
On the last two sections of the raid (or however many), the above bar moves up to 280? So anything under 280 takes a pct penalty.

It depends on what you mean by penalty. I could be wrong but I think you get a benefit up to +10 from the light level of the enemy. At least I *think* that's how it was in Destiny 1. So for 270 content you'd want to be 280. And for 280 you'd want 290. Maybe you'd consider that a damage bonus rather than avoiding a penalty but it's effectively the same thing. But I'm somewhat talking out of my ass here on numbers. I remember seeing the numbers go up and down in the TTK era in that way as I added or removed light. Seeing what kind of damage my Black Spindle would do on the various damage phases would always hammer it home for me. It certainly feels like it works the same way in this game. At least judging from the story missions. Where if I was short on light level going into a mission it would feel hard. If I was close it felt fairly normal, and if I overleveled it was lol-mode. Good news: Fidelity has fixed my internet (for the time being). I'm back up to 14 meg instead of the measly .5 to 3.75 I had been getting. Not to be a smart ass, but I think the bottom line is you should use your highest level gear in all slots unless your weapon is really suboptimal. Also, you should very much have this in mind as you infuse weapons - always prioritize infusing your good weapons (see my list above) over everything else.

My best energy weapon to shoot is one of my exotics, which is only a 265. I'm a beast with it (it's that exotic trace rifle which shoots a constant laser beam) My highest rated energy weapon is a flame sub machine gun to which I can't hit the broad side of an apartment building with. Does that help frame my question better? If I am getting a -10% or higher penalty on the 265 exotic, which is already hitting with -13% less power....then maybe I should just use the submachine gun.

I'm not sure if you're still going in blind, so I'll be vague, I can go into more detail if you'd like. Assuming you have a decent-leveled kinetic AR, and a decent leveled shotgun/sword (I recommend Hawthorne's Field-Forged Shotgun if you have it), it sounds like you'll be fine. You can use the two of those and swapping between the SMG and Coldheart as appropriate. There may be one point where you'd like a scout, if you have. It sounds like the rest of your group will be 280+, so there's only one encounter where I can see your light level being an issue; for the rest of the raid you're not going be be stuck getting overwhelmed by adds, and your group should have more than enough DPS to compensate for any drop in DPS that comes from you swapping weapons to be able to do the mechanics you need to.

And - dropping your light level in one gear slot shouldn't affect your overall light level too much. I'd guess that at worst you might drop from 280 to 278 light, or something like that. Go with whichever weapon you feel most comfortable with.

Going 5 light lower then your highest really is no big deal at all. Don't get fooled into using a sturm and drang for all your high level content. I will gladly take a strong 10 light lower weapon over one that will not be very useful. Especially if they don't compliment each others range well. I like to run around with a low ROF auto + hand cannon, Scout + hand cannon or Scout + auto in PvE. For the raid (I will try to keep it vague like Hawk): Castellum: anything Dogs: sidearm/SMG + Shotgun/sword/merciless/cluster bomb launcher (And long lasting AOE grenades!) Gauntlet: handcannon + auto, something solar helps (but anything really) Baths: handcannon + auto + sword/shotgun/fusion/rocket Boss home team: any combination of auto/scout/hand cannon + merciless Boss underworld team: Nameless midnight or other high impact scout + cold heart + rocket with cluster bombs iw5000: use the coldheart, it will serve you pretty well. Unless it is a solid 20 points lower, you will be fine. Btw, did you know that you can infuse any auto rifle in it? Including kinetics! It also depends on the primary of choice you use. If you have a long range primary weapon, the SMG might be just fine for the closer stuff. All in all in PvE I haven't found a huge use for SMGs yet though. Also this only goes for nightfall and raids so far. All other activities are so far below 265 light that your coldheart will suffice.

Thanks
We did the maze/dogs thing last night. Finished that part of the raid. It took a few attempts to learn the layout, mechanics, but once we figured it out, we crushed it on our like 4th or 5th full attempt. It was fun.
Then some epic Mario jumping stuff in the basement levels, which was hilarious. Wasn't like super hard, but between being tired (it was after 1am), rushing, other teammates throwing supers at me to knock me off pipes, ...well, it made things hilariously fun. Got that done and won an exotic engram. Can't remember what I got.
We then got set up for the Gauntlet, but a glitch forced us to restart. We ended up calling it a night.
So I've done the intro section of the Raid, plus two sections finished (Baths and Dogs) and have started the third (Gauntlet)
Good stuff. The above is what makes gaming fun.
