Sorry, but you really come across as a total tool. You brag about how much "praise" you get on reddit and in PMs from something you straight up copied from BM. I've used the app and it is considerably better than the apps that activision made for ghosts or aw and haven't found any major bugs or crashes. You say it should be free, but what about the guides they sell in best buy, should those be free too? I don't hear you complaining about every youtuber who makes you watch ads while they dribble out stats over a 5 or 10 minute video. I guarantee guys like tartan or ali a make way more money in ads than the few dollars people spend on the app. Your logic makes no sense. What BM and Marvel are doing is a service to the community. If your mom doesn't give you the $5 in allowance money to buy it, then that's too bad for you, but trashing people who have done more to help this community than you ever have or will is not welcome here. Go back to reddit troll.

He is selling an app. That is original content. Just like a video on YouTube talking about the stats is original content. It makes no sense that you would complain about a member of the community selling an app for $5 but not complain about the guides they sell in the store for $20. IMO the app is better and costs less. You also lied about the app crashing and being buggy. It works fine for me and I've used it for a while. It just seems to me like you are trying to trash BM and Marvel with lies. If you don't like the app then don't buy it, but copying their stuff and trying to take credit for it is pretty sleezy. I'm sure if the other mods on reddit knew this you would lose your moderator abilities.

If anyone does have specific improvements they would like to see in the Ultimate Utility, please do let me know. We've come a long way, but I still have a big list of things I am working on and am excited to get them out to all of you.
As for the pirated copies linked above, I have already removed a few links, but I know more are likely to pop up. Instead I will be issuing a new version of the app which only legitimate customers will be able to access. Once enough time has passed, I will deactivate the pirated version, making those copies inoperable. Ethan, I would appreciate it if you would remove these links on your own. It would free me up to work on more productive things like maps and compare guns, but that of course is up to you.
Thanks to all of you for your support. Please keep the suggestions and feedback coming. We will continue to make the Ultimate Utility the best game guide out there!

I do disagree with one thing: Mousey, just searching the forum to figure out how to get the stats is not as easy as you make it sound, since that was attempted last year by me and at least one other person. And you, to be fair, sort of played it coy when we (me) asked you for some help on where to look. Although I am sort of a simpleton so, maybe you're right.

Ok great, in the mean time I'll see if I can test on a simulated screen size identical to your device and identify the problem. My guess is that the last update probably improved the text clipping issue for you, but may not have fixed it entirely on that particular screen resolution. I'll get a new update out once I've tested on your resolution.

except he did exactly that. hes had a donation button on this forum for a couple years now. the only halfway decent ones came from driftor and tmartn, and has gotten like $20 collectively between everyone else because, surpise, most people arent that passionate about this sort of thing. hes not holding him hostage. hes paying him. considering the amount of shit that got thrown at him, or how often people took credit for his stuff, im surprised he took so long to try and get something out of it. im sure plenty of people arent happy, but its hard to be sympathetic to the community when most of it only started giving marv the time of day once he stopped being a charity. maybe if you gave back to him instead of nagging him on the irc on and off for two fu cking years, then he might give half a shit about your blessing. My point stands that if Marvel really is struggling for cash and this is his way of earning it, he needs to visit other options, he's a smart guy with a good set of skills. This should be a side income via donations. At this point, though I won't speak for him, I'm sure it's a breeze for him to do. He's paying Marvel to hurt the community as a whole, while he only gains attention and money. I don't blame him, but this isn't the right way at all to do it. BrassMonkeigh is scum. If it's this big of a pain to do for him he can hand it off, "h-h-h-h-he already tried that!!!1!!1", again I'm positive someone, probably myself when I can cough up the initial time it takes to get things going, would take his place very quickly. Who are you to say what Marvel should be doing? Being moderator of a subreddit doesn't make you lord of the CoD community, as much as you think it should. BM may make ugly apps, but he did see a business opportunity that helps both him and Marvel. There's nothing illegal or shady about what they've done, just as there's nothing shady about you making your own spreadsheet (although I suspect that you pulled the numbers you couldn't decipher from BM's app). What is shady is you putting the contents of a paid app on the internet because you disagree with its existence. What's the point of all this drama, when it's about to be February? Marvel will be releasing his stat sheet some point soon anyway. |

It's not a modern app design at all. I didn't look at your video; I only have the IW UU app.
It begins with the splash screen with the three space aliens and spaceship. What in the world?
Then you see the main screen, of which the top half is useless and belongs on its own social page (in fact if you navigate to the social tab, the same "Pwn Box" and "Playercard" options are duplicated in the bottom half of the screen). No app has a layout like this with navigation to different sections in the middle. Look at Twitter, Facebook, Shazam. The navigation is at the bottom. Alternatively look at the amazon app, where instead of a bottom navigation, you swipe from left to bring up a menu or tap the menu key in the top left of the screen. Gmail and such do this as well.
Then there are the gun screens. Although the menu to select a particular gun is fine, the locks over the gun icons remains a confusing feature. Then for each individual gun, the primary page with information has too many entries (left leg multiplier, right leg multiplier, max continuous fire time...). The shots to kill screen with the skeleton is ugly. The variants screen is just a bunch of text.
There's also that ancient keyboard style that gets drawn up instead of a modern ios keyboard.
I have no idea why the color scheme is red.
I feel like a lot of these things are obvious.

Thanks for sharing. Design is one of those things that everyone has very different opinions on. Two people can look at the same thing and feel very differently about it. This is why most apps have used the same tab-based template since 2008. It is well tested and users are highly familiar with it at this point. It begins with the splash screen with the three space aliens and spaceship. What in the world? There is a reason for this. Infinite Warfare uses robot aliens. The app uses robot aliens, just different ones. I've worked (through my attorney) to have extensive conversations with Activision legal over the years and there are very specific rules which must be followed in terms of how and where official game art can be used. What it comes down to is for legal reasons I am not using official art here. Then you see the main screen, of which the top half is useless and belongs on its own social page (in fact if you navigate to the social tab, the same "Pwn Box" and "Playercard" options are duplicated in the bottom half of the screen). The top 1/3 of the screen is about branding the app per the user. It shows your username, avatar, message inbox, news, and quick access to your in-game stats for games that support this. Future updates will incorporate indicators for your player level, number of achievements, etc. The idea is to have a summary of "you" right when you open the app without hindering navigation to other features. Infinite Warfare does not allow access to your in-game stats from a phone, so some of this is limited, but for other games like Battlefield 1 or Overwatch, all of your in-game stats will appear in the playercard which is why that is highlighted. The goal is to reduce the number of taps a user has to do when using the app. This home-screen layout achieves this. It's not a modern app design at all. It is interesting that you use these examples, because those apps all use designs that have been around since the original iPhone. Tab based applications with the tab bar at the bottom are actually the original "app" design from 2008. These are very basic designs and not modern at all. I could probably design a skeleton for the UI of the twitter app in an hour. It would take some additional work to add in their custom scrolling animations, but overall not hard. Companies use this lower tab bar design because users are familiar with it. They then "jazz it up" with different colors and a few custom scrolling animations to make it feel unique and updated. Then there are the gun screens. Although the menu to select a particular gun is fine, the locks over the gun icons remains a confusing feature. This allows you to keep track of what you have unlocked in the game. If you don't want to use it, click the tally counter in the top right and select unlock all. People in this very thread complained there were too few stats listed in that section when I first released the app, so I added more. Just one of those things people have different opinions on. I figure more info is better than less when it comes to stats. The shots to kill screen with the skeleton is ugly. The variants screen is just a bunch of text. I think the skeleton dude came out great! He is an easy way to visualize the hitboxes and I know a lot of people use that feature, especially for the snipers. As for the variants, this really is the best way to display them. They don't have a consistent set of rules, making them hard to display in a uniform way. It's not like the variants are all the same gun, but with one thing different (like a baked in attachment, or different fire rate, or damage). Some of them have totally unique properties that must be described with text for the user to fully understand how they work. There's also that ancient keyboard style that gets drawn up instead of a modern ios keyboard. This is done to increase compatibility. I have user logs and there are still a lot of people with older iOS versions. Implementing the newest keyboard means you get a cooler keyboard, but for everyone who doesn't have iOS 10, the app won't even load. I have no idea why the color scheme is red. The red/black color scheme got great feedback when I did focus testing. Other schemes such as the greyscale used in the actual game were blah. I also tested a yellow scheme (like the color of the infinite warfare logo) - it was atrocious. I feel like a lot of these things are obvious. Everything is done for a reason. Hope this helps you to get some insight into the design process! |

The Den Kirson forum isn't about the stats of the game anymore. I can't come here to debate the effects of long barrel, or if the grip attachment is a placebo. Or how much shotguns need a buff! No, now it's just drama like every other COD forum.

Most apps have used the tab-based template, and that's a good thing. You chose to put your tab menu in the middle and have a redundant top half. It's redundant because you have three tabs, and one of them gives you the same options as the top half does all the time. Justify it if you wish.
Robot aliens. I understand you don't play the game, but there are no robot aliens in IW. just lol.
I highly doubt you need to require iOS 10 to provide a modern keyboard. You have to go all the way back to iOS 7 to see keyboards in the style you're using.
Parts of the design work (like the gun menu), but some things look bad. It's ok; it's mainly an app for kids, and they don't really care.

Unfortunately there are no plans to make any changes regarding the items you've listed. I will not be using official game art for the splash screen. I agree that it would look better, but this is a legal requirement. Nothing can be done to change that. As for the keyboard, compatibility always takes precedence over aesthetic tweaks. If you have any doubts over the technical aspect of what I've said, feel free to read up on iOS programming documentation.
