Northstar experts who know how to position themselves are pretty formidable on the battlefield. I for one get very nervous when got shot from nowhere and lose a bar of health, especially while fighting other Titans.

Noice! I really enjoyed my time with Northstar despite thinking I wouldn't. I'll definitely come back. Just gotta finish Legion up to level 4 then I'll start poking around with other titans again.

Northstar is bea on angel city. Oh so much! All the gaps between buildings, shortcuts to fly over, and the extreme range sight lines. This map was made for Northstar... err, Northstar was made for this map.

Been improving my Ion game, just wondering if you guys still think entangled energy is its best kit?

From what I've read the 5 beam split is good for hella DPS at close range, but since it cuts your energy you're trading laser shots. It might be worth it on maps you know you won't be able to poke without getting a titan up in your face or if you know you'll be able to flank somebody and catch them off... though you might as well run Ronin or Scorch if you're going for sneaky flanks.
From what I've read it doesn't use any more energy than usual, it just strait up makes alt fire do more damage.

I just got my first 1v5 clutch (all enemies at over half HP) in LTS... using Northstar of all titans. Still not too sure how I pulled it off, but I am really falling in love with this little bugger now. He's the king of sneaky flank shots, hit & run gameplay.

Pretty much is that. I had one recently where I dropped my titan just as my team's got wiped out and I had to run away and play hide and seek with 5 titans. heh Between the tethers, cluster bombs, and all those dashes I managed to stay alive long enough for my team to drop some more titans and then I went a pokin'! Wish I could see a vid of that game, though. I'm still very green with Northstar. Scorch is my bae, but I wanted some variety so I'm branching out.

Yeah I still feel the titan balance is a lot better than the message boards make you believe. Northstar is actually really good, but you have to play the sneaky flanker sniper, not the long range front line sniper. He might have the highest long range burst damage in game (excluding cores).
On Ion, I like entangled energy or 5 way splitter rifle. You should not forget though, that peeking with laser shot in mid-long range is just as effective regardless of which mod you are using. I put on the refraction lens and I started playing ION completely different. That is not how you should do it. While he really can hold his own in close combat against most with that mod, taking peek shots with your laser is still the best play.
Imho it boils down to this:
- Do you want to use laser shots in closer range fights, where you utilize cover and primary to recharge energy? Go entangled energy. - Do you want to simply burn down the enemy titan in closer range fights, use refraction lens.
Nothing really changes in mid-long fights.
I really like the refraction lens personally, it vaporizes titan health just beyond ronins shotgun range. It makes Ion also a really hard counter to Tone, as long as you can catch those missiles.

NEW META Old meta, I stumbled across randoms trying to do this (without too much success) probably over a month ago at this point. At first Dumien didn't believe me, but we proceeded to do it non-stop for like the next two days. This was also kind of in Legion's original heyday, so I'd gather up an absurd amount of shots from enemy Legions and Dumien Legion alike and one shot everything. Good times. This on the other hand.... wtf

I messed around with it last night. It didn't seem like something we should build a strategy around, but given the right circumstances, it was nice gibbing the first unsuspecting victim on a flank.
Originally we tried dumping the double spread charge shot into it so I could retain ammo for the push. We then switched it up so that I retained my cooldowns and load him up with normal bullets. I think the later was better to give much more burst damage and not completely neuter Legion. The Ion got the Core everytime on the first throw, which was nice.

As a total legion noob, how much ammo does the charge shot even use? I always try to use it after I need to reload. I feel such a scrub with legion... damn. Double charge shot makes him more fun though!

Double charge shot makes him more fun though! 1 To elaborate, it only costs 1 bullet from your capacity to use either charge shot. However, the long range one only "makes" 1 bullet for vortex to catch, but the close range makes a bunch of bullets to catch on vortex. Basically we used double charge shots (wide) pumped in to the vortex to give him plenty enough bullets to gib/core, while I still retained mostly a full clip (minus two bullets) at the expense of my charge shots on cooldown.

Lol, so wait, it is like this?
Short range charge shot costs one bullet in the magazine, but creates something like 20? once it leaves the barrel. Ion can catch all 20 of those, so using it against ION is a bad bad move. Long range charge shot costs one bullet in the magazine, and stays one (more powerfull) bullet when it leaves the barrel. But once you catch that one more powerfull bullet, it becomes less powerfull again?
So long range charge shot is the best against Ion? Although it is quite obvious to counter as you see the glowing barrel.
What about the damage differences, does close range charge shot do significantly more damage? Because I still feel that being on long range mode 99% of the time is the right move. As long range is still really usefull close range for hitting those crit spots, but short range is useless at even mid range.
Also, since this is already a Qupie is a noob at Legion Q&A: Does smart core aim charge shots as well? I have been aiming those myself during core but don't really know. And is it smart to use power shot during smart core? I am trying to get Legion to G2 but appart from some LTS tactical loitering I am not really having a lot of succes/fun.

Yup, you are correct how you explained it. Short range charge shot against Ion is a big no-no. But then again, anything Legion vs Ion is a big no-no.
As far as I can tell, there is no damage difference between the close or long range shot or charge shot (assuming all bullets hit if short). I agree that long range is mostly better, but the short range charge shot is easier to land on pilots and Ronins, and of course has the knock back too.
Im pretty sure you don't need to aim your charge shots during Core, but I still do to up my chances at hitting that crit. Theoretically speaking though, if you can land it without smart Core, do that so you aren't wasting valuable Core time for the charge up.

I did so much Ion and had such little problem against pretty much any Legion that in my mind it was more dire than in reality. When I finally seriously tried Legion again recently against Ion I mean, it wasn't ideal but yeah the long range Power Shot can do decent damage, and if they catch it then no big deal, it comes back as a weak ass normal bullet. And yeah they can scoop up all your shots but they can't Vortex forever, if you keep your Predator spun up then it's not that hard to come out ahead on damage. But I basically never ran into that while playing Ion. They'd stop shooting, but not stay in ADS, so next time they tried firing I'd get another couple of seconds of warning and be ready to go with my Vortex Shield again.
I'm still pretty bad at Legion though.

If using nuke eject, phase shift is the best ability. You can pop it to save your own pilot life if you eject into a ceiling (it happens a lot to me). A pilot alive is HUGE for your team, you can pick away so much damage AND take enemy's attention away.

While it is a combo, I will never advocate a player to build a strategy around nuke eject. It promotes poor play. If you don't know the right ways to play Ronin, then learn or play something else. That's just my opinion of course.

I completely agree, but it is one of the only titans which doesn't really benefit from another dash, so it is still an option, but you should not really focus around it.
It is either double smoke, overcore or nuke imho.
I really like nuke + pilot turret in bounty hunt. It is an absolute monster. You get so many turrets you can set up two every minion round, and can always at least nuke yourself into one free titan per match.
If you really want to play ronin right, double arc blade + double smoke is the way imho.

I didn't consider other modes, but the AI Titans in Bounty Hunt seem to be an exceptional use of Phase Nuke. In LTS though, exactly how you put it, double smoke/arc. I hit G10 with Ronin a few days ago and am completely onboard the tank Ronin, with some tricky hit and run dabbled in there.
