Lag is there. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't, most of the time, it's fair to all. This inclusion of the word 'most' makes this statement true. The 1 out of 100 times that it's not true is in my particular case, where: 1. I live in a city with a population comprising 5% of the total population of the country (Perth, Western Australia), that 2. Is ~3600km away from 90% of the country's population, and 3. I play the Wii U version of Black Ops 2. The combination of these three factors results in a bad connection 90% of the time. The inclusion of the 3rd point is particularly relevant due to the fact that the established playerbase is currently very small, resulting in the population distribution having a larger effect on average connection quality.

On the topic of dedis, didn't Homefront have them? Heard it ran really smooth online but never played it.

Dice has Dedi servers but people can rent them and set whatever rules they want. Not sure if there is a server browser or not but I'd hope so. Leads to little kids having mom get them a server and then being jackasses from what I have heard but you gotta hope that some great servers have come out of it.
I could see CoD trying dedi servers for League exclusively if they keep it in the game.
