I'm most excited about Destiny, but Destiny sounds pretty good as well, and I've heard a lot of good things about Destiny. Also excited to check out Bungie's new IP.

If I had a PS4, I would be excited about Day Z. I have heard a lot about it. Can a console capture the feel of what it does on a PC?

I've been wanting to play it on PC, but just haven't bitten down on it yet. Sort of feel like without friends to play it with it's just not enticing enough at that price point for me, yet. Also I didn't really want to jump in with the massive number of bugs and figured I'd wait for it to hopefully get better. Downside is I'm also less eager to play it and more concerned it will be very boring punctuated with getting killed out of nowhere by strangers for my 1 can of beans or some such. ;3

Yeah, that's painful, especially if you can't even start the download early... Mine went pretty quick... like surprisingly quick. >,> Like about 20 minutes. I couldn't believe it was playable and assumed there must be some massive in game download, but nope, it was ready to go. *shrug*

I am one of the Destiny Digital "junkies" on XONE and I had to cancel my preorder because of the current limitation. Not a big deal for me though because my dowload is fast enough and I don't have much time to play it on the first week of release anyway. More info on Playstation TV: www.polygon.com/2014/8/12/5995497/playstation-tv-release-date-north-americaDoes this mean that it can serve as a full fledged second console in the same household, along with the other feature "other players can join in games with you, co-op or competitive. And they don't have to own or download the game" ? Would be really cool if it does. However, from the description above it does not look that's the case, sounds like only limited titles can be played.

PS4 games are streamed from the console, that's what Remote Play is. So yes it does allow for full PS4 games, but the PS4 console is also tied up streaming it so it's not something two people could do simultaneously. I believe it can also stream to the Vita.
As for Vita, PSP, and PSOne I think it can actually run those locally. PS2 games will probably only be available to it via PlayStation Now.

The media and the player community had a day to digest the info from MSFT and Sony's press conference, and below are the "verdict" (sort of ): 1) PS4 continues to expand its lead on sales, with 10+ million units sold to date, dwarfing XONE sales of ~5 million (not an official number); 2) On the exclusive front: MSFT scored a big win by getting the next Tomb Raider as exclusive at least for "2015 holiday season". This has inspired another round of spit war between console fanboys; First look into Quantum Break game play looks cool enough, basically a third person cover based shooter with time manipulation abilities. People familiar with "Alan Wake" (the previous game made by the studio) see similarities between the two games; Halo MC continues to impress as a "fan service with huge value", by bringing back beloved Halo 2 ranking system into Halo MC and providing more details about the Halo 5 beta - 3 weeks, 7 maps, 3 game modes, 11 weapons, going back to Halo root 4v4 arena focus; Evolve's exclusive beta on XONE is another small victory used by MSFT to boast XONE as the "best place to play games" for this holiday season; 3) PS4 on the other hand announced a large number of exclusive and "first to Playstation" titles, appears to be the most in the Gamescomm history. Some of them (Bloodborne in particular) look impressive; 3) On the platform feature front: It is clear that MSFT has abandoned Kinect. None of the 3 bundles have it included. MSFT's ability of delivering significant platform updates is hailed by media and fans. The announced social / media play / TV features are fairly impressive; Sony's "SharePlay" feature of allowing gamer to invite a friend to play a game together without having to own it is major and could be a game changer; 4) EA Access as a new experiment of monetization is considered as "interesting" at the moment. Nobody knows whether it is going to be successful or not.

Looks like Microsoft is cutting its losses on kinect and trying to get serious about games. This is far and away a different focus from when it launched when it seemed like MS wanted to make it some sort of entertainment hub box thing that oh yeah kinda also does games... It's a bit too little too late for me as I've thrown in with PS4 for the foreseeable future it's a good thing. Maybe they can turn this around and bring some competition.
Lack of competition is bad for everybody (except the monopoly owner). Though I hope this console duke out focuses more on quality than exclusives. Exclusives are just annoying unless you get both consoles, because you wind up having to lose out on something either way. It really doesn't serve consumers and while it does help developers get cash up front for developing their games it hurts their sales in the long run, which translates to weakening their brand as a developer and either ignoring or flat out alienating a whole segment of the market. But hey, not everybody can or should kickstart... *shrug*
At any rate... it's a good time to be a gamer. heh

Regarding exclusives, my 2 cents: First of all let me state that as a gamer I hate the idea as much as anyone . That said... 1) From a pure business point of view: exclusives are a necessary evil due to the nature of the Console War. It is especially important to the underdogs. 2) From technical point of view of platform holders (ie. MSFT & Sony): exclusives are places where unique platform features can be showcased (e.g.: MSFT Azure backed cloud computing), because it is not a priority for cross-platform game developers to take advantage of such features. In this sense, exclusives are good for gamers because once a platform feature becomes popular due to an exclusive game, the pressure will be on to the other platforms to add such a feature. The hope here is for exclusive developers to produce better games, then in turn drive entire industry forward in terms of innovation. 3) A new encouraging trend in this "exclusives" war is "timed exclusive" from third party developers, i.e.: some games will first come out as exclusive, become successful (easier and less pressure for developers due to the platform holder's financial and technical commitment and investment), then transform into cross platform title. The signs are there for this trend, with wording like "exclusive for 2015 holiday season" (e.g.: Tomb Raider), "first to Playstation" (e.g.: DayZ), and of course the already much talked about Titanfall.

This is interesting. www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2014/08/07/angry-gamer-is-suing-sony-over-killzone-shadow-fall-graphics/After all the needless bs over 'Resolution-gate', where Sony basically one-upped MS on a trivial point of graphics, that was really much to do about absolutely nothing.... it turns out that Sony is now being sued. Sued for lying about their own advertised resolution. After blasting MS about not hitting 1080 on some early releases, it would appear Sony's own Killzone, it's multiplayer never hit 1080 either. Sony kind of lied about it, if going by the article. You can read the article, for why I used the 'kind of' (I wouldn't waste your time) The gaming world's collective IQ most certainly had to have dropped 15 pts after having to deal with all this bullsh1t the past year.

I've only played the DayZ mod and not the standalone but in my experience that really depends on the server you pick... thoughts on the game? I love zombie/survival games, but there just aren't many of them (at least good ones) I've only see Day Z on Youtube. That really doesn't show how the game plays to much.

Sorry, I'm not with you on that one iw5000. That lawsuit is complete garbage and the article you referenced got part of it wrong as well. The multiplayer resolution of Killzone can be considered to not technically be native 1080p on a technicality, but it is not upscaled. The game uses a temporal rendering process that renders some of the pixels and borrows others from other frames to make up the difference. Think of it more the way that compressed video splits the motion data and the image data so that it doesn't need to use as much image data to maintain the video.
Is it technically not full "native" 1080p, well yeah. But it is not up-scaling. In my book it's still 1080p, though I'm sure there are a few minor artifacts. I know you want this to be some sort of poetic justice, but this is just lawyers doing what lawyers do. There's really nothing to it.

I also mentioned the article is probably not worth reading, but just putting it out there that Sony was sued. I found that kind of amusing. As far as whether Sony's KIllzone MP was 1080 or 1078.25....I don't really give a shit. Thanks for the explanation, dumbing it down for me. That's interesting to read. That said, Sony doesn't really get a free pass on that in my book, seeing how they have been building their whole ad negative ad campaign the past year on exploiting technicalities. Again, that's why I found it amusing. I know it's lawyers doing what they do (I deal with that stuff at work). And while it's not quite full poetic justice, it is funny seeing Sony's tactics coming back to bite them in the azz.

Third Person tactical shooter vs. First Person sci-fi shooter aside, seems to me the former is more survival based while the latter is more loot based. Far Cry might be a closer comparison.

I need to get my hands on the game to really feel the game (and the XONE exclusive beta is great). By simply looking at the game play I can't quite extract the idea of what the main fun is. I have yet really gotten into a co-op game where players with different abilities need to work together to survive and thrive, maybe that's why I can't quite get this game yet. Hopefully I can get a taste of that first with Destiny Raid.
