The only way I see this being positive for Minecraft is if MS pushes them to finally develop a mod api/sdk like Notch promised ages ago, and migrated the game away from Java so we can get some better performance like the console versions enjoy.
While it does look like the other versions will continue to be supported I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some XB exclusive content sooner or later.

I don't think it'll actually be Xbone exclusive, the current Minecraft is already permeated every market. However I wouldn't be surprised if they drop updates, release a sequel and make it PC and Xbone only with maybe a mobile market. Who knows, depends on how Microsoft wants to play ball with Sony

A Minecraft sequel would have to be handled VERY carefully or it could be a complete disaster.

One thing positive (or silver lining) from this news: MSFT is willing to make huge investment in games, 2.5 billion is a lot. In comparison, Amazon-Twitch deal is 2 billion, and Twitch is ranked 4th in Internet peak traffic: With such kind of investments pouring into gaming, along with a relatively healthy competitive landscape in the business, should result in accelerations of innovation for the entire industry.

the peak traffic thing doesnt correlate to worth. Streaming and video obvious take up a lot more bandwidth than something like amazon. A more interesting comparison is that the minecraft brand sold for half that of fu cking star wars. amazon runs streaming video too. They have their Amazon Prime system, which does the same thing as Netflix. I have the app on my Xbox. Both free and pay model.

I was unaware of that. However I was just saying that the peak traffic just measured bandwidth usage, and didnt directly correlate to value. Oh yeah, I agree. I was just putting it out there that Amazon does the Netflix thing too. It's a nice service and in some respects, better than Netflix.

Prime really is great and it's fairly priced even after the hike. I might get it, loved the month trial. (Back when instant was included in the trial). Netflix is pretty stale, only getting good stuff like once a month.

A more interesting comparison is that the minecraft brand sold for half that of fu cking star wars. It does seem crazy when put that way, but when you think about it... 54 million copies of Minecraft were sold in the 3-4 years that it has been in existence. That's probably about $1.5b in sales alone. Plus any DLC, plus all of the toys & costumes and bullshit trinkets for sale. If you add the numbers (not adjusted for inflation) of all the Star Wars movie cash + trinket and bullshit sales, its bound to be higher than Minecrafts lifetime total, but probably not by much % wise and SW has been out since 1977.

If you want a value on the Star Wars franchise, just look up Disney's purchase in 2012. That will give you what was a somewhat recent fair market value of the franchise. They bought it all, for $4 billion.
$4 billion > $1.5 billion.

In recent news Steam introduced a curating system. People recommend good games, and hopefully all the shovelware sifts through. Things are prone to change quickly as this system has only been introduced several days ago, but here's all the people/organizations who hold the most influence: (152k) Cynical Brit Gaming (50.0k) PC Gamer (33.8k) The Jim Sterling Collection (24.8k) Rock, Paper, Shotgun (23.1k) The Nerd^3 Boxset (18.4k) Just Good PC Games (18.0k) Kotaku Recommends (13.8k) Northernlion's Curations (11.5k) The Cox List (10.6k) Alexelcapo We also have Hodor. Heh heh. Hodor. What do you guys think about Steam's new curation system? Personally I've heard mixed opinions about it; hopefully someone knows more than I do about this.

Well. They're not wrong. The algorithm has spoken! You must pick up Destiny (Sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, and sort of Single Player), it's your Destiny

I think a lot of people will really like it so I think it's a good thing. Personally, I'm just gonna stick to my old method of checking the new releases section everyday and putting any game that I might be interested in and need to do research on on my wishlist so I don't forget about them. Much easier than keeping a written list.

November is a critical month for Microsoft, as it is finally XONE's turn to have some very appealing exclusives and bundles. Microsoft's counter offensive in Console War: 1) 10/28 - exclusive Sunset Overdrive, and white console bundle Niche appeal. It will have strong promotions and probably raving reviews, but unless it's out-of-ball-park-great none of my friends will be playing it; 2) 11/03 & 11/04: CoD - Advanced Warfare, XONE as the leading platform, and limited edition bundle Mass appeal. Preorder numbers show that XBL players are much more interested in this game than PSN players, which could translate to significantly higher online population numbers, critical for a game like CoD. This is going to be a significant factor for CoD fans who have still yet to decide which console to buy; 3) 11/11: exclusive Halo MC Medium appeal. This is a huge console pusher for XONE. Undecided players may choose XONE just for this, while PS4 owners are tempted for a second console due to this. 4) 11/11: Assassin's Creed: Unity, and console bundle (Black Flag also included) Medium appeal. 2 popular games are thrown in for free if you buy an XONE console. Attractive deal. How much can this quadruple play help XONE? We will have to see. Microsoft knows it and they have already started dropping prices on AW bundle.

Wow. This is a hell of a deal. PS4 sells for $399. One is getting the XB1 for under $300 in some instances, with the three holiday bundles.
1. A white Xbox One bundled with Sunset Overdrive retails for $349
2. An Assassin's Creed bundle that features both Assassin's Creed: Unity and last year's Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.
3. A $449 Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle that features a uniquely colored console with a 1 TB hard drive, twice the size of the original Xbox One drive. It also comes with a matching gray and orange controller and a digital copy of the game.

I have been thinking about getting another one into the house so my wife and I can play together on games that don't support split screen (e.g.: Destiny). It's good that I waited Trying to decide which bundle to buy. Not interested in the CoD bundle, as to me the customized looks and bigger hard drive are not worth the extra $100, besides I already prepurchased CoD directly from XBL and it is non refundable. It now comes down to which games I am more likely to play: Sunset Orverdrive or Assassin's Creed. If there are AC fans out there, I can use some convincing as a FPS player . What are the main attractions of these games?

Well, that's not quite accurate, lol. The X1 number is an estimated ceiling, while the PS4 number is an estimated floor. I'm a little shocked by the $50 price drop on the X1 for the holidays. The price drop with the dumping of the Kinect seemed like a good move toward righting the ship, and the price point it's at now seems very reasonable. The holiday discount is certainly not in the "EVERYTHING MUST GO!" range, but that's a heck of a cut. It'll be interesting to see what Sony does in response, if anything.

I've yet to pick which console to buy AW on. I'm worried population on PS3 will be pretty low, compared to next-gen boxes. The early DLC thing is enticing for the Xboner, and now with the PS4 you have to pay yearly, which always pissed me off about Live.
I've noticed that both platforms now have audio out on the controllers. Are these used for game sound or just chat? If they are used for game sound, does anyone know if either platform is capable of providing separate audio for different players? 95% of my gaming time is spent split-screening with the wifey on COD, so being able to soundwhore again instead of hearing both players audio would certainly be a huge selling point for us.
Any help would be appreciated!

Buy it digitally on PS3, you get PS4 version free.

I've noticed that both platforms now have audio out on the controllers. Are these used for game sound or just chat? If they are used for game sound, does anyone know if either platform is capable of providing separate audio for different players? On PS4, you can output game sound and/or chat with the choice thereof. You cannot output separate sound for each player in Ghosts and I highly doubt AW will implement this. The console is capable of supporting this as it can detect and support separate headsets for each local player, but I believe no game so far has utilized this. The fact of the matter is that splitscreen is overwhelmingly unpopular. Like alexcalibur said, just pick Xbox or Playstation: buying the game digitally for one console will also purchase the game for the console's sibling.
