BTW. If you preorder from Amazon you get a code in minutes and can cancel your pre order for no charge. Which is great because if I do end up wanting it I'd want the digital download but PSN charges full price ahead of time.

Thanks iw If it's spare and nobody else wants it i'll take the code, I may not get a chance to actually try the beta out tho' due to the small time window and having to work, but with a bit of luck I might find time.

you mean like borderlands? oh wait that game sucks. But really a game so much as existing in PC doesn't mean that itll ruin the console version or some shit. How dare you speak of Path-of-Exile-with-guns-and-a-DLC-system-from-hell 2 in that matter. Randy and 2K have given us timeless classics like Aliens Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem 3D, Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands the Pre- Order Sequel, Tales from the Borderlands, Dance Dance Baby Clap-Trap Revolution, Borderlands the Multiplayer Online Battlefield Arena, Borderlands the Hentai Manga video game, Borderlands the Mobile App (Image 1, this one's real), Borderlands Mount Jackmore (Image 2, cow clicker app). Timlees Klassiks. You forgot Brothers in Arms where you get prepubescent soldiers who think war is a game and it's so cool using discriminatory language.

Exactly; Randy should get the team to make their own World-War 2-themed Cookie Clicker. Nazi Clicker! And instead of cookies going in the oven we can- uh... wait a second. Nope. We're not going there today. Nope nope nope nope nope.

TitanFall is the only one I could see doing the above mega leap, but the problem is, it's an Xbox exclusive. It can't get there unless Xbox One's installed base numbers hit 20 million. That's not happening by next fall. An exclusive as of right now. While not confirmed Zampella himself has heavily hinted at a Titanfall 2 PS4 release.

Unfortunately, I dont't think TitanFall 2 will be out in time to compete with the games mentioned in this thread. TitanFall 2 is now looking to be released much later, maybe 2015 holiday season at the earliest. What looked like might be a crowded, competitive field next fall, all competing to become the new kind of FPSers...is slowing breaking up.

I would be rather annoyed if they released Titanfall 2 anytime too soon as the first one's still too new and I want then to do some real work on the sequel, not just make new maps and burn cards and call it a day. It needs to have an actual single player (preferably coopable) campaign this time around too. Or a MUCH more fleshed out multiplayer campaign at the least.
Didn't Respawn say from the beginning that TF was Xbox exclusive but any sequels would not be or at least that the exclusive only applied to the first game? Not that I care. I mean my PS4 is nice and all but PC. ;3

I really don't know. I did read an article recently that seemed to indicate that the Titanfall creators wanted to sit back a bit now (and rest), and weren't in any stages for the next game. This was back in May. It would appear that December 2015 is probably not realistic, and the most likely TitanFall release date is going to be spring/summer of 2016. TitanFall is out of the picture for now.
Which makes things interesting for next November, stretching out over the winter. Which game will be the FPS king? Driftor has a video up talking about the Destiny beta. Destiny right now is being hyped as a potential CoD Killer. It's his opinion that Destiny might be in trouble though, and is already kind of doomed in terms of getting any love from the FPSer competitive world. This is the community comprised of sponsors, MLG, YouTube/Twitch, pro players, community of fanboys, etc..) While the actual numbers of this group is small, it does have the ability to have the tail wag the dog at times. Driftor feels that because Destiny is going to fix it's frame rate at 30fps, it pretty much sealed it's fate. The FPS comp community will not embrace it. They want 60fps. That's going to push Destiny's MP back into the side role, and make Destiny more of campaign/co-op fun experience.....not a 'GO TO' experience for serious FPSer fun.
I personally don't really give a crap about the above, just repeating what I heard.
TitanFall does play at 60fps. Although at times, I've heard the frame rate isn't stable, it can drop. Due this even though it's not even running 1080 on the XBOx1. I think it runs around 800 or so? Again, I say 'I've heard' because I personally don't dwell on this stuff. I have a XB1, have TitanFall, and I don't notice this stuff. The game looks beautiful. It's nicer than anything I have on the XBox360, the frame rate seems great, and the lag issue is far FAR better than CoD Ghosts. Nothing to complain about there.
I do think TitanFall has potential to knock off CoD. You only have one place to compare the two games - The Xbox One. And in that arena, TitanFall has straight up outsold CoD Ghosts 2.01 million to 1.87 million, even though CoD Ghosts had a huge headstart being put out four months ahead. That said, there's still another almost 9 million XBox360 players who bought Ghosts. They need factored in. Many Xbox people didn't buy Ghosts, because they already had it on the 360. This will be interesting to see, how it plays out.

Based on what I saw about Destiny beta impressions from player community, including Den bros (see this thread denkirson.proboards.com/thread/6829/bungies-destiny?page=14 ), I speculate that the following would happen: 1) Destiny is going to out sell CoD:AW for sure, just because of its excellent and addictive PvE (solo & cooperative play vs. NPCs) alone; 2) Destiny competitive MP (called "Crucible") got rave reviews from Halo players, while not so hot among CoD players. In a nutshell, looks like it plays like Halo, but is more accessible to CoD players. In that case, I predict the majority of the Halo players will love the experience, while a significant minority (say 25 - 30%) of CoD players will like it too. However, given CoD's huge player base, I believe that Destiny is NOT going to be a CoD killer in terms of MP; So in short: is Destiny going to be the new king of FPS? Sales:yes, Competitive MP player population: no. However, even if Destiny does poorly in winning over CoD players in the competitive MP front, its PvE attraction will most definitely further disrupt CoD's player base, following Titanfall. CoD empire won't fall in one day, but with new IPs coming from left and right to disrupt its player base, it could collapse in a year or two unless the developers come up with something of greatness. Borderlands developer, Gearbox, talked about why they are making the new IP "Battleborn" instead of Borderlands 3: www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/07/21/why-gearbox-is-making-battleborn-and-not-borderlands-3.aspxIn this interview, they made one interesting point regarding on how to get more players into FPS: use cooperative play to lure new players (from our point of view, these are FPS noobs) in, then make them feel comfortable in Competitive MP by playing against the mix of NPCs (which are the same as cooperative) and human players. Destiny is following similar strategy with different tactics.

I don't think that Destiny fits the competitive scene anyway. Everything has to be standardized, nailed down, and flattened out for that and Destiny is the opposite. Sure they do some balancing in the MP to even things out but you're still looking at a vast array of possible loadouts. Everyone in the match could have a different weapon with various nuances even after the balancing. Just look at how people are gravitating towards lower fire rate shotguns and auto rifles for the higher damage due to the DPS balancing.
Maybe they could make it work for MLG by introducing a game mode with standardized MP only weapons or something, but really the whole game seems to be the wrong community for this. Destiny is not about tryharding so much as grinding and enjoying the game experience. I'm sure there will be some serious crucible players, but that's still kind of the equivalent of WoW's arena PvP. But that's just my opinion.
Honestly I don't think it really matters. MLG and whatnot have their thing and that can be a force, especially on Twitch. But on the other hand... most players play primarily for fun and while they may enjoy multiplayer they aren't terribly concerned about MLG or the "competative" community. It certainly doesn't hurt to have a strong competative community, but if you have a strong community of casual and non-competative hard-core players then the game doesn't really need it.
Still, yeah. I don't see Destiny replacing CoD. It's too different. Halo on the other hand could have some serious competition.
Titanfall I think appeals to a nice cross section of the whole FPS community, though some have decided it's not their thing and gone back to CoD or other games, especially on PC. Still, I think it's been a good first showing. In fact I think the TF formula represents a different branch of FPS that will continue. It's not CoD or Halo, though it borrows some things from CoD. But it's sufficiently different to carry on from here on it's own momentum and has a great deal of potential. But, yes... it'll take a while. I don't mind that. I for one am hoping for a good, long development process on a sequel. This first one is fun, but still new and we're still in the honeymoon period for a new IP and technically new Studio proving it-self. Everyone was impressed, but it's still just a babby. The next one is make or break. If they cock up TF2 the franchise and Respawn it-self may go under, so here's hoping they do it right. It'll be difficult to live up to expectations too.

The only pros I watch from time to time are SC2, mostly because the announcers make it interesting to watch the build up and the back and forth. Though I did enjoy watching some Shootmania as it has a game mode tailor made for viewing by creating asymmetrical 3 on 1 matches with an objective and a short match time. Super high skill ceiling with the weapon designs too. The 1 player getting a 1HK railgun and the 3 getting slow 3HK (I think) rockets with small splash radius. Not much variety, though so it got a bit samey.

The next one is make or break. If they cock up TF2 the franchise and Respawn it-self may go under, so here's hoping they do it right. It'll be difficult to live up to expectations too. My main concern about Titanfall sequel is this: what significant elements can they add to the combat sandbox? Possible choices on Pilot weapons/abilities, Titan weapon/abilities and movement options appear to have already been exhausted. Are there enough room for creativity left to make an even bigger sequel? Extensive campaign can be one dimension for creativity, but based on the recent interviews with Titanfall devs, they feel doing that "is going backwards". The above are probably why they appear to be hesitant and non-committal to the sequel. From what I saw in the news and interviews it looks like they are more interested in working on something new (like a new IP). Personally I like what they are doing right now for the current Titanfall: focus on support by adding improvements, game modes and maps, as long as there are still enough interests in the game from player community. However, with a large number of games coming out soon with Destiny leading the way, such support is most likely to end after the third DLC.

People forget how small that particular crowd is out of the multiplayer contingent. They sometimes have MLG players on the Activision forums and, when they ask the 'Community' if x perk is overpowered, Amplify being the usual offfender, your typical response is "**** off". Because just banning undesirable stuff from competitive play is not enough for these people. Apparently, these people who play computer games all their lives cannot work out why intel tools, like increasing footstep sounds, are more powerful in game modes without respawning. People Can Fly tried incorporating competitive stuff in Gears of War with Judgment, look how that panned out so sometimes it's for the best games don't try that.

Witty. Those are some bold predictions on the earlier page, that Destiny will outsell CoD-AdvW. Nice. Props on sticking your neck out on that one. That's going to be interesting. While Bungie didn't make Halo 4, Halo 4 did about 8 million units on the Xbox 360 in 2012. If Bungie can duplicate that, grab those people, ...and do it with both systems (MS & Sony), that would translate into around 16 million units sold. CoD Ghosts is tracking to sell 21 million units. Can that happen? CoD AW will have to fall off from 21 million to below 16 million....and Bungie's Destiny is going to have to go over it. I suppose what gives Destiny a chance is they come out first. They'll grab the dollars from the consumer, before it ever gets a chance to get spent on CoD-AW. But what makes me think it might be tough is that market is still fractured.
Some more numbers. VGChartz shows preorders for Destiny and CoDAW. This looks like a landslide blowout. But one has to consider that Destiny is 8 weeks away, CoD 16 weeks away. And to put some perspective on things, CoD's big numbers have come from launch days where 5 to 7 million units were sold on day one (24 hours). Destiny doesn't need to do that, but it will need to do at least 3 to 4 million in the first week, to get to 16 million (either that, or CoDAW just bombs out and goes way below 16 million)
Destiny: 1,178,000 preorders PS4 - 530k XB1 - 406k 360 - 162k PS3 - 80k
CoD AW: 182,000 PS4 - 39k XB1 - 55k 360 - 63k PS3 - ??k Less than 30k
I have no clue how accurate those numbers are, but I noticed this. PS4 has 530k preorders out of a base of nine million consoles. Around 5.8% of every PS4 console pre-ordered. 8.1% of every XB1 owner pre-ordered. Why are XB1 users pre-ordering at a 40% higher rate?

I have no clue how accurate those numbers are, but I noticed this. PS4 has 530k preorders out of a base of nine million consoles. Around 5.8% of every PS4 console pre-ordered. 8.1% of every XB1 owner pre-ordered. Why are XB1 users pre-ordering at a 40% higher rate? Halo fans?

All the Halo fans come from Xbox. I'll go with that.

I think there's all sorts of places a Titanfall sequel can go. Yes, there will be a single player campaign. Why? Because the the multiplayer campaign concept didn't really work. And while I think it would be interesting to iterate on the concept to make it better, I doubt they will go that route. EA will want a single-player campaign. It makes money. They still have guys like Fukuda who are single-player campaign guys. They are out from under all the legal bullshit with Activision. If you read the Final Hours of Titanfall ebook you'll gain a better understanding of the game's troubled development. With the basic technology in place, and a couple of years with actual focus, I expect a huge leap out of Titanfall 2 in amounts of raw content.
I don't think they're looking at doing a new IP at all. They will want to refine and max out the potential of the game before moving on. That's their pattern, COD1->COD2, COD4->MW2.
As for how they can up the multiplayer portion of the game specifically? Surely there's a ton of room. First of all, they can port over all sorts of ideas from COD or even Battlefield. You can add Killstreaks/Scorestreaks back on top of the Titan countdown mechanic. Get 5 kills, call in a dropship carrying a squad of "elite" grunts/spectres. More AI, but actually lethal. The air support and air strike type streaks would make a lot of sense in Titanfall.
The Titans themselves could be far more customizable. Instead of three classes of chassis you could go with a modular build system. Different legs, arms, heads, etc with different armor, shield, and speed characteristics. You can throw in Titan pistols as secondaries. Or Titan akimbo weapons?
For pilots? Well obviously what's missing right now is... that's right... the triple jump kit! God I would run that full time.
As for the Titanfall countdown... you could add different vehicles there... instead of dropping in your titan, maybe the Titanfall equivalent of an Attack Helicopter. I think it would work pretty well, though we can do without a Battlefield jet equivalent.
Back to the modular Titan builds... on top of that, add modular Titan damage. As in, your Titan only dies completely if its main hull is destroyed, or maybe also its control circuits in its head. Aside from that you are blasting off limbs. Land two criticals on a Titan's knee, and it blows off that leg... Now it can only hobble at 50 percent speed using its off hand for balance. Blow off its other leg and it falls down to finish its existence as a sad immobile turret. Blow off an arm, if it's the gun arm the other arm picks up the gun. Either way that Titan just lost its ability to melee, or maybe it gets a half-range and half-damage elbow animation while still holding the gun? Anyway, c'mon now, Titan limb dismemberment is a 10/10 idea. And just think of all the new execution animations you can have depending on the limb status of the Titans involved.
I think Titanfall 2 can be a totally new batshit-insane beast.
