What I must really know is R2's optimal FOV with respect to frame rate; have been messing around with it a little
The highest possible FOV will no doubt be the most competitive, in theory. Of course, what mannon pointed out about sitting distance from the screen is certainly an important factor for the casual player like myself (I sit 15 feet away from my 70" TV), but for competitive, you will want the most information on your screen at once.
(I just tried 110 on my setup, too disorienting for me. 90 feels nice)
I forgot all about hacking spectres... on the other hand, you're giving the other team more stuff to shoot for points. So does it at least give you the same points you would have gotten for killing them? If not it seems like a net loss given they aren't likely to do more than tickle the other team.
You get the same points for hacking them as you do for killing them, PLUS any kills that your spectre army gets will go towards your score (they are great at taking out groups of grunts while you focus on pilots). The enemy team will not be awarded any points for killing your hacked spectres.
You are invulnerable while performing a titan execution, however you are not while doing a pilot one. You can be easily killed while performing the animation, often before you are granted the kill from the execution, effectively allowing someone to "rescue" their teammate.
Deep meta thought: will the new phase shift execution make the pilot performing it somewhat invulnerable for a moment? If so, then this is the best execution to use.
(but grand theft semi auto is still the sexiest so fuck the meta)
I think the opposite is true - Pilot vs Pilot would turn off newer/COD players, because they would get shitstomped by someone who knows how to parkour properly. Attrition is the best game mode for them, and it really is what will suck a new player in and make them fall in love, with the massive epic scale battle going on around them. Titanfall 1 Attrition was soooooo immersive. A lot of that died in T2, especially with the matches being random factions fighting for no apparent reason (seriously, Respawn needs to make all matches IMC vs Militia again!!! They can still let us choose our announcer/dropship faction...)
Respawn pushing Bounty Cunt so hard is really hurting this game, because that game mode is VERY complicated/confusing for new players, and is just a less-fun version of Attrition in general.
Never had an FOV option on console before so pardon my noob question: what are the good things does that offer?
It allows you to widen your peripheral view, so you can see more stuff at once. Kind of gives a "zoomed out" feel, like the difference between going from ADSing with an ACOG to non-ADS.
Here is what an FOV of 90 looks like. I think Titanfall 2 is set to 70, so your view is a bit narrower than this:
Going up to 110 FOV might not be quite enough to allow us to see Object A, but we will definitely see a lot more of our surroundings. Going much higher than 120 is usually quite disorienting on a single screen.
This image shows just how much of a difference it can make. The top image is 90 FOV, the bottom is 60 FOV. The player is standing in the exact same spot in both images:
Having said all of that, I always thought the reason console games have fixed low FOVs is because the hardware simply cannot handle the increase in information without dropping frames. We'll see how this plays out
Cloak is fully disabled when you fire now, like in the first game? That is a terrible adjustment... the way it was at launch is perfect. That adjustment will make it a completely useless ability compared to Phase Shift
Mode-specific maps is a terrible idea. Pilot vs pilot shouldn't even be a thing, nor should Skirmish. Also Amped Hardpoint is the dumbest concept ever... you get more points for tactical loitering your starting flag than you do for seeking out and attacking enemy flags?
Attrition, Hardpoint (not amped), LTS, and Capture the Flag are the only true game modes. Ideally, there would also be a "quickplay" button on the home screen that launches you into a Mix Tape lobby.
It really shows why we all dislike Complex and Crash Site so much. It's all of the negative/inaccessible space, making the map feel very "laned" with long corridors, rather than the fun, open, swiss-cheese style maps of the original.
Really cool info about the grapple, this explains why I feel like I have infinite grapples sometimes, and very limited at other times (grappling titanz)
Does A-Wall boost everyone's damage when shooting from behind it? Or just friendlies? Or just the pilot that threw it down?
I originally defended the grappling, but the more I use it, the less I see it can do that Stim doesn't already do better.
I disagree, mainly because the grapple cooldown is like 100x faster than Stim, so I pretty much get to use it nonstop. The movement is just as fast, if done properly. gfycat.com/RegularSingleAngelfish
Shit there is a resale market for these? I have pictures of the backs of like 100 doritos bags in my phone. I would have gotten more but the Walmart employee kept giving me strange looks.
Cloak or Phase Shift Sidewinder (ext mag + fast swap) Charge Rifle (hacked + fast swap) Firestar Phase Embark Stealth Kit
As soon as you eject pop cloak to avoid the easy gooser. If the enemy isn't looking up to the sky to ping you, dump your sidewinder into him while ejecting/falling. Nail titans with your firestar if you ever get the chance, it sucks a full bar of health. Or they pop their e-smoke to remove it, opening them up to sneaky rodeo if you're brave enough (never rodeo if they have another titan nearby, you'll die. Rodeo best used when they are engaged with one of your teammates titans, and then you also have a nearby place to put the battery). Dump sidewinder at close range, ping them with charge rifle from long range. If the enemy titans ever direct their attention to you, pop cloak/phase and GTFO. Staying alive with their attention directed on you is better than dying to do an extra tick of damage, it will give your team a huge advantage. And if they aren't paying attention to you? Awesome, keep pinging away at their health
GAME MODE TWISTS Changing things up and trying out new ways to play is a big part of how we work here at Respawn. We’re carrying that philosophy over to multiplayer with semi-regular events that will change up rule sets on certain games, giving them a “twist” to how you might normally play them. Changes like these force players (and ourselves) to look at the game differently and try some things you may never have tried before.
All I want is for them to put Mix Tape at the top of the list, ahead of Bounty Cunt. Maybe put a "Quick Play" button on the home screen that queues players into Mix Tape. We need more population in Mix Tape. Variety is the key to longevity
While we are talking about phasing: anybody has good tips on using Phase Rewind? I have been doing Dice Roll on Boosts, and have never managed to use it effectively even once for the times it pops up. Maybe a fun way to play the game is to mix and match Phase Shift and Phase Rewind, especially in Pilot vs. Pilot.
I also always use Dice Roll for the random fun aspect of it, Rewind is probably the 2nd worst ability, after the particle wall.
The most effective use is after you rodeo-steal a Titan's battery, they are no doubt going to turn around and kill you since it highlights you on their screen (and shows you through walls), Phase Rewind seems to erase this highlight permanently (not confirmed), and it also puts you back up in the air at Titan height, enabling you to easily re-rodeo (provided they didn't dash away too far).
The other use, in pilot-vs-pilot, is if you find yourself getting shot from behind or chased. In all my time playing, I've only managed to get one clip of it actually working, lol. xboxdvr.com/gamer/Will%20Wheatley/video/23792718
I meant a low ceiling in comparison to the other titans. Obviously everything in this game has quite a high ceiling in general. The meta is sooooo deep with the class-based Titans, I really like what they've done.
How about getting batteries and rodeoing? I guess in most of the games there is not enough time for the Titan-less pilots to get the battery and give them to the friendly Titan?
It works if you can find a lone enemy titan, I won a LTS match doing a triple-rodeo on the last titan while I left mine in guard mode hidden in a corner on a sliver of health (I had a teammate in his titan somewhere too, so I wasn't risking the whole round doing this). But don't waste your time if they have a teammate nearby
Tone & Legion: The problem with Tone and Legion is how easy they are to play - this makes them picked more often, so you encounter a crap-ton of them. It doesn't take long to reach their skill ceilings. Ion: Ion is probably the most difficult titan to master, but this also places his ceiling up at the top. In the current meta, I think he's fine just where he is, because most of us mess up his energy usage. Once more players master him, he might need that ceiling dropped a bit. Not sure. Hmm... Scorch: Scorch is similar, in that if you play him bad, he is the worse, but if you can master his moves, he is ridiculously deadly. Also perfect just where he is. Ronin: The only change I want to see from Ronin is have him not die from his own phase shift - just have him get pushed off to the side a bit like if you shift into a friendly titan. Flying Target: Needs a buff. And a defensive ability. Hmm...
Pilot stuff: A-Wall should have the amped part (increased damage) put on the boost, not the ability. Weapons are actually surprisingly well balanced if you take out that A-wall damage buffing ability. Let me use an anti-titan weapon and a pistol on the same setup.
Other non-balance stuff: Don't fix appearance to ability, I don't want to be a fatass to use cloak or a robot to use phase shift. Make matches be IMC vs Militia again, have us select one faction for each side (Militia = mcor, ACE, 64; IMC = apex, vinson, ARES) and then give us the dropship/announcer according to which team we get sorted to. Makes no sense for Mcor to be fighting against angel city elite. WTF respawn? You focused so much effort into making the first game very lore-immersive, every match felt like an important battle in a large-scale war.
TBH I just use "Button kicker". I gave Evolved an honest effort for about 2 hours, but I just could not retrain my twitch reflexes. I still top the scoreboard in every match I play, and feel like a parkour champion playing against COD-pylons, so there is also very little incentive for me to raise my ceiling. Moving my thumb to hit A isn't that big of a deal, and besides, I use grapple so often to launch myself to speed that even if I did use Evolved, I would have to press A frequently anyways.
witty I was also all aboard the warpfall train, until it dawned on me how tight the lanes are on these maps. I'm now all about the dome shield again, because I can effectively use my titan to block off lanes for a length period of time. Enemy titans also tend to just stand beside your bubble and wait for it to go away, so I use this time to shoot some anti-titan weapons from my pilot, knocking him down to half health before I even get into my titan. The warpfall crush kills were just too few and far between, even with baiting/luring tactics. It gives them an audio cue when you call it in (pro tip: if the announcer says "enemy titanfall incoming", move)
As for the generic kit, I am still in love with nuclear ejection. Though the blast radius seems to be nerfed from the first game, I'm finding it more effective in the sequel for a few reasons. Firstly, the tighter laned maps make it much easier to trap enemy titans near you, they are much less likely to be able to get away. This is doubled in effectiveness when playing Attrition thanks to the overpowered reapers that clip against titans. I'm probably averaging 1 titan kill per nuclear eject, for every one that I miss, I'll get a double or triple. And a pilot kill or two as well.
Yeah the horizontal spread on the mastiff is niiiice if you play attrition - one shot takes out a large group of grunts. As for pilots, I don't find myself getting very many 1-shot Eva kills at all, but the mastiff works almost every time.
Firstly, you can ADS while wallrunning now. I'm personally in favor of this. I don't know if it slows you down or has other effects, but I like being able to do it because I enjoy using ADS and wallrunning, and combining them is quite nice for me. I'm also glad to see that the sights, (or at least some of them) are still visible while cloaked this time!
Unless you are sniping someone across the map, I honestly see absolutely no reason to ADS in this game. The hipfire accuracy is that good. Even when picking off players from one rooftop to another, I still just hipfire.
2) tips on using the new grenades? namely firestar and gravity star. General tips are also welcome.
Firestar is my favourite anti-titan weapon, because you can stick it into the titan, they can't dash away from it. It takes out a full bar of health, and will also damage other nearby things. If someone firestars your titan, pop your electric smoke, it will destroy the firestar. Almost nobody knows this though, so you are free to keep using it offensively yourself (and those that do know it - well you made them waste their electric smoke, so now you are free to rodeo them).
Gravity star is neat when paried with any projectile weapon. I like it with the L-star. You fill up the vortex of the star with L-star energy balls, and when it bursts it shoots them out in all directions, good for taking out a group of grunts. But TBH, an electric smoke grenade or firestar just does a better job at that.
Grappling hook tip is do not use your double jump before the hook - always save it, to be used towards the end of the grapple. If you time it just right, it can launch you over 40 kph.
