Bungie's Destiny

It is pretty shocking that we have not had a dedicated thread to Destiny yet, so I am starting one.

1) Release date: 09/09/2014

2) developer: Bungie, the company who built Halo. publisher: Activision.

The two have a 10 year long term deal for the continuous development of this game (and if successful, franchise).

2) The game is dubbed as "shared world shooter", the first of its kind. It has the elements of character development like MMO, and the matchmaking like traditional shooter.

3) It is largely a cooperative shooter.

4) Matchmaking: you and your "fire team" (from solo to 6 people) will be matched with other players to play cooperatively. To prevent your gaming experience from being ruined by the extreme douchebags, voice chat between your fire team and others are disabled by default. There are "other means" to communicate among fire teams. Also, nothing prevents you from using platform-specific ways to communicate.

5) Although cooperative is the main feature, competitive matchmaking will definitely be supported. Details are still very sketchy, especially in the department of how a less advanced character can play against one that is a lot more advanced, balance among races (Human vs. Awoken vs. Exo), and balance among classes (Hunter vs. Warlock vs. Titan).

Although 09/09 is still ages away, they are going to have beta in the Summer for people who pre-order. So for bros who really trust Bungie, the time to play this is not far away

The following is what's known regarding the competitive MP:

"we have a lot of best-of-class practices to make sure that the matches are as fair as possible. The other thing that we do is make sure that when you are playing and you are experiencing the competitive multiplayer in Destiny you’re always improving and upgrading and receiving rewards. Obviously you want to win the game, but if there’s no way you can win this particular game, we’ve all had that experience in different games, you don’t come away from it with nothing. You come away with “I was really happy there because I managed to get kills on that guy even though he’s got this exotic weapon.” It’s really satisfying. So we reinforce that as well"

Destiny is going to be on the PlayStation 4, if people still think it's an exclusive.

Destiny on PS4 has exclusives. Some may say the PS4 is actually the lead platform for Destiny this time around for Bungie.

Personally I cannot wait for it.

If I understand it correctly - it's like Halo crossed with COD MP with RPG type power-ups from Skyrim and Borderlands.

I can't wait though. While borderlands was cool for having a compact well constructed 4 player experience, I would love to see this on a massive scale. Also I just binge watched Sword art Online (season 1) so I'm on an MMO high.

Yeah, this guy has to be THE best composer that works for a video game company Lots of people shed dollars to just buy the Halo sound tracks, he is that good.

From Bungie's weekly update posted today, looks like the beta is 2-3 months away: (at least for PS)

My translation of the above: they are going to spend the next 8 weeks to polish and get the game ready for beta. Then (a few weeks later) they will release the beta so players can get their hands on it.
