Article published in 09/2013 that describes the vision behind Destiny in good depth: ge.tt/1hDW9an/v/01) bring two very different player community together: a) one that enjoys compelling story telling through campaign, b) one that enjoys competitive MP; 2) How players player together through a) organized fire team, b) on-the-fly matchmaking; 3) elements learnt from other games: MMO, open world exploration, co-op shooter etc, (e.g.: Borderlands) 4) Long term planning for a 10 year life span of 4 games and 4 substantial DLC (referred as "comets" in press releases), right from the inception;

All of the preorders are for hard copies I have not seen that either. If you are thinking about preordering to get into beta, you can just do it for a hard copy for now. Should be able to switch later if needed (hard copy -> digital, regular edition -> collector edition, XONE -> PS4 etc).

There's even being gossiped it's because of his supposed anti-arbotion rethoric
It's weird whatever the reason is. You don't fire one of the most well-known composers in your industry "without cause", unless you're really fucking stupid

Rumors are flying high on Reddit, and here is one version of it: On a separate note: maybe 343 Industries can hire Marty so he can go back to Halo . Microsoft and Bungie are at odds with each other since Bungie left Halo behind, hiring a Halo veteran back would keep the drama going...

MSFT does seem to push very hard on Halo 5 (or whatever the name is going to be) though. As far as I can tell this is the only significant XBL exclusive MSFT has, they probably will do whatever it takes to make it a success.
Also, it does not have to be 343 Industries. They can just hire him into the XBox and oversee all music related projects.

By pushing I mean from development point of view. MSFT has been saying that 1) XONE has enough power for nicer graphics, 2) resolution is not the only important thing, etc., they'll have to prove it with Halo. Marketing wise it has been kept under tight wraps, preparing for a big announcement at E3 2014. Regarding the direction of XONE: the new head of XBox, Phil Spencer, has explicitly said (in Major Nelson's Podcast) that the most important focus for the future is game play for core gamers. The XONE can have all the non-gaming fancy features, but if the gaming experiences are of inferior quality then it is all for nothing. I think that the fact of having somebody from gaming background to lead XBox is MSFT acknowledgement that their previous strategies for XONE were somewhat wrong, which Phil Spencer hinted in that interview as well. For reference: here is the link to the Podcast I am talking about - majornelson.com/cast/2014/04/04/mnr-506-phil-spencer-the-new-head-of-xbox/

The tweet and the news post on Bungie.net aren't really in the same vein... I think all the ideas of why he was fired are certainly valid reasons... Which is why they are being accepted. One thing that I also read is that Marty doesn't even do any of the actual composing anymore and the last big thing he had input in was adding electric guitars to the soundtrack. But who knows how true all these rumors are. Still kinda interested in Destiny.

For a situation like this, rumors are going to fly high. Some would be pure speculations, and some would be intenntionally injected by one of the involved parties. Fans probably will never know the truth. Comment sections on Bungie.net are now filled with angers and sadness by fans: www.bungie.net/7_There-are-those-who-said-this-day-would-never-come/en/News/News?aid=11484 . One thing for sure is that this is definitely a blow to Bungie and Destiny's PR. This along with Joe Staten's departure last year (after 15 year tenure at Bungie) are making people wonder what's happening there. Joe Staten did go to Microsoft Studios. IMHO it will be a smart move and a significant PR win for MSFT to get Marty as well.

Well Joe Staten's departure seemed more amicable, seeing as he left a (positive) message in that post. I would think that a lot of musical material would be done already... so I doubt the lack of Marty will be apparent in the Destiny soundtrack. (Even if all the noobs will claim that it is "horrible" and "not the same without Marty".) It also seems like 343 is leeching quite a bit of upper level people from Bungie to work on Halo and with all their claims that they understand Halo 4 wasn't up to par and that they are working hard to make it even better, prospects seem better for Halo 5.

Yeah, I am not too worried about the Destiny game itself since it has reached the final polishing stage, just a little bit concerned about what's going on at Bungie.

The press is just pissed because Bungie is being tight lipped and not giving them anything to write about.

The press is just pissed because Bungie is being tight lipped and not giving them anything to write about. IMHO Bungie's last week's PR move is very questionable. What's the point of have a press event if they can't release much info? To intentionally see the negative impressions? I think that it questionable, but it makes sense. It's unclear who, between the community, press, and Bungie, is over hyping the game. From Bungie's perspective, I can see that it makes sense to keep a lot of content under wraps until at least a beta of the game is out so that people aren't unhappy about features not making it into the final version of the game, or pre-release versions not having all the features of the final game. Press and the community will rip Bungie apart if there are any discrepancies between what is said before release and the actual game. I would certainly, if I were in their shoes, avoid answering questions on features that are not definitely in the game yet. I think there was only 2 or 3 instances of actual gameplay before the press event, so the press getting to play the game was a big deal, and it makes sense to make a big deal about lifting a press embargo where a lot of sources will be able to write about their own experiences playing a game that has barely been seen, let alone played by anyone outside of Bungie. I don't think the situation was that the press was not allowed to say anything specifically about the game, just that the slice of content they have gotten was very small, and to get information from that content requires them to look really deeply into what they were playing. I have been following that subreddit for awhile, and when you piece everything together from all the different press sources, a lot about the game has actually been revealed.

The more I read about Destiny and the more I watch videos about it the more it reminds me of a super duper polished Borderlands. I love it The following is what I posted on our clan's forum. TL;DR: based on what I read from the latest press preview, the core FPS game play is very Halo like. The Borderlands heritage is mainly in the veins of upgrade path and character development. The dynamic, shared, persistent world is coming from MMO. And lastly, having ActiVision as the publisher will add some CoD DNA to it as well, on the PvP side of the game. Of course this is just my impressions, for $0.02 worth. If Halo & Borderlands have a baby, with CoD as Godfather...Will you be interested in playing it? What is Destiny?1) A game being developed by Bungie, the studio that built the Halo franchise; 2) A First Person Shooter, with core FPS game play & feel like Halo; 3) An open world RPG with story missions and character development, like Borderlands. Forming fire teams with friends and tackle bad guys together; 4) A "shared world" shooter (think MMO, but Bungie has insisted on not labeling the game with it) where all players play in a persistent shared world that they may bump into each other through seamless matchmaking to work on "quests"; 5) A huge sci-fi fantasy world to explore all over the solar system, including Earth, Moon, Mars, Venus, etc., with Next Gen graphics. The world is also quite dynamic, planned events will happen from time to time; 6) Competitive PvP multiplayer arena where players can fight each other like CoD and Halo MP. The TTK ("time to kill") design will be of middle ground between CoD and Halo: not as twitchy as CoD, and not as prolonged as Halo; 7) Published by ActiVision, the only company that can successfully make huge profit from FPS fans year after year. ActiVision is betting big on Destiny: signed a 10 year contract with Bungie and made the bold claim that this is going to be the next Billion Dollar franchise; Resource for people who are intrigued and want to learn more
