Anyone in the Alpha? I haven't hit the crucible yet. Had too much fun in free roam. Loving it so far. Seriously. Finally we have a bro in alpha. What are the main fun aspects in the free roaming? Oh Man everything! Just hop from mini mission to mini mission. Random public events happen as you go too. Lots of good drops happen as well. Great way to get loot and glimmer for toys at the tower. I had a few rounds in the crucible earlier. Sniping is fun once you get a decent gun but I'm liking the more traditional combat. I love how the grenade take a while to recharge too so, as a result, the game isn't the usual "lob two grenades, run in, fire, melee finish like traditional bungee combat. Honestly this game is amazing. It's going to rule my life. Edit: I posted this earlier somewhere else. Right - 'Had three hours on it last night.
It's pretty complex and had to get a few things explained by the people I was online with. Alpha cap is level 8. I got my Hunter to level 8 last night.
It has a very Mass Effect feel (I doesn't play like it - it just feels like it) Movement and combat is superb - Very CoD like but, slick like Halo - movement is quicker than Halo. Dark sections are spooky in the torch beams. Lobbies, parties, squads (and I assume Match-Making) are straight out of Halo as far as I can tell. The gamer is split into PVE and PVP - I haven't ventured into PVP yet - I was having too much fun free roaming and picking up missions Music is amazing. The maps, or rather 'worlds', are massive - requiring the use of a hover bike to traverse on occasion - the summoning, and use of which, is fantastic.
The RPG-esque levelling: shopping, upgrading, visual customization, specialization etc is huge - layers within layers. I Foxtroting love it.
Graphics are superb. Textures are great - huge detail. Enemy AI is excellent.
tl;dr - So far, it's all the best bits of CoD, Halo, Borderlands, Mass Effect and Skyrim. I shit you not. It ends Monday morning. I'm trying to squeeze every minute I can out of it, between now and then. I need to try PvP later. I'm not sure if it'll be more like Halo or CoD, or somewhere in between.

Could do. I have the means to have both but I have had so many games in the past I barely played so I am trying to get that habit gone. Just the Halo MC thing looks good but I'm not sure if I'd justify a whole console for that. Chances are if Black Tusk studios revive Gears (doubtful but I thought Mortal Kombat was dead many years ago) theni it would make it more justified.

wings: if you are planning to get Halo MC, you should go with XONE first. Destiny should not play that different on XONE vs. PS4. PS4's good exclusives will mainly come out in 2015, you can judge whether you want one then.

I have watched a whole bunch of live streaming on Twitch, but you are the first one to say that this game is CoD like I am mostly interested in your impressions on Competitive MP (I refuse to use word PvP ). People on twitch look addicted to it and are singing swan song about the experience, but they could be just saying it to keep the viewership. I want to hear a bro's opinion, especially from a CoD player point of view (so far I mainly heard good things from Halo players, so I suspect that Destiny is still not a good alternative for CoD Players). BTW, below is Alpha impressions from Forbes: www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2014/06/13/the-good-the-bad-and-the-in-between-of-bungies-destiny-alpha/ . Look like "the good" are great, and "the bad" are nit picking or they guy just did not have a good handle of certain aspects of the game.

Witty. It's definitely more cod like than anything you've ever played that's connected to bungie. It's not cod though. It undoubtedly, to my eyes, has similarities. It's between cod and halo somehow. I've put more hours into cod than any other game and this felt 'natural' somehow. I didn't have to undo that muscle memory that I normally do when picking up a halo game. The movement was more like cod too. You know that weird transition between the two games when cod feels too quick or halo too slow? I didn't feel it was like that. I'm going on again for a few hours. I'll try and be a little more objective but I don't think I'm far off. Whatever, honestly, I think this is going to be huge, but justifiably so.

That's a plus though. When the worst thing about a game is a petty nitpick then obviously it's good.

Also I think his cooldown complaint is kinda moot. Borderlands first play through (lvl 1 to 30) jakobs pistol is undoubtedly the best way to go regardless of class and I barely touched my ability. In UVHM no one does no ability builds. That's fucking stupid. It was a pain initially but eventually it became integral for success. I think like most good RPGs with raids and whatnot the devs focused on endgame balance, not beginner balance. They don't care about the first half amount of levels.

This (more appealing to CoD players because the publisher is ATVI) has been my impression as a viewer and I can even go so far as speculating that it is a design goal, nice to finally see some confirmation from CoD bros.

BAHAHAH my predictions will be true. I've been getting reports from a couple PS4 buddies that this feels more like borderlands than anything else. What's cool is this: Borderlands fans say it feels like Borderlands, Halo fans say that it feels like Halo, and we now have CoD fans say it feels like CoD as well. I also heard from The hard core MMO guys who feel that the Raid is good. So the game may not be ground breaking in terms of innovation, but is meeting its design goals and as good as it is hyped to be. The decision making is now simple: if you like what you see in the hype, then the game is for you; if not then it is not.

BAHAHAH my predictions will be true. I've been getting reports from a couple PS4 buddies that this feels more like borderlands than anything else. It absolutely does if you play the PvE part. There's even a full on, two stage raid boss in the alpha. it's like borderlands with a mass effect skin. I've played 5x more of that than competitive. The game is so well structured. It really has distilled the best bits of a lot of other games and merged them.

I'll try but there aren't many hours left. Fwiw. It's standard cod but with one difference as default. The melee is r shoulder. But, as the hunter can throw the knife, it's like alt throw (ie stun/flash vs frag) so frag is L1 and melee/thrown knife is R1. Everything else (default) is pure cod.
There are 5 other settings. I don't think it's infinitely customisable unfortunately.

Not sure how long my laptop battery will last but I'll go until it tells me to stop. The game is split into two distinct halves: PvE co-op play and PvP competitive Multiplayer. MP: In MP (I think) your level, weapon upgrades, power up etc are removed - it's like CoD/Halo in that - you don't get a competitive advantage because your DMR has a damage boost (for example.) Obviously your load-out comes with you - it's just downgraded to default power and ability. Think - my DMR = your DMR or the MP element would be skewed even more from the CoD type FamAug/FAL/MP7/pp90/ type load outs we're used too. If it didn't the new player would get stuffed, literally, every game. The more I think about it - There isn't another way really. There is reticle bloom. No doubt. The guns have recoil! Grenades have a respawn delay - you get one, you throw it, you cannot throw another for a minute or so. There are no shields - just health that replenishes after a while. The health bar is divided into four sections but so far, I think that's barely more than cosmetic - except: once you get below 25% there's a two stage replenish - it goes back to 25% - then it refills the rest. This moves it far from Halo type MP. You don't longer lob a grenade to take down shields, lower health by gunfire and go for the melee finish (although you can - it's not the be all and end all anymore.) You can simply use gun play and headshots. Snipers only OSOK with a headshot as far as I can tell. I haven't seen any launcher type pick-ups but periodically, through the match, different ammo types appear. That seems to be the target. Enemies die more slowly than CoD but much quicker than Halo. The guns look, feel and sound great. (Incidentally, while I remember - no grenade sound you've ever heard compares to this. WOO OOOOMPee eeeeeeeeeee) There is only one game mode in the alpha - domination. PvE Co-op. Honestly - this is where I'll lose my life. I've started to enjoy this type of play more and more lately, Borderlands, Halo, Gears, Warframe. Love it. This is just so polished. One downside so far - fireteams seem to be limited to 3 in this game mode - hopefully that's an alpha thing. Again - I'm not sure what will change from here but, for now, the alpha experience is as follows. You start in the hub (tower) and select, from a map, the target area - in Alpha PvE this means a single story mission or a free-roam. You land in the middle of a huge (I'm still finding areas that are new after hours of this) area and it's populated by baddies. Throughout are mission beacons. You pick on up, travel, complete the task (scan, loot, kill a given number of enemies etc etc) and get the reward. Sometimes that means spawning your sparrow hover bike (think Return of the Jedi) and blast over the map, through canyons, lakes, amazing terrain etc or other times - creeping through pitch black abandoned 'Fallout' type derelict buildings with just your barrel flashlights. At any point (so far) two things can happen - they call these 'events.' You may round a corner and there's a load of Guardians (real players not AI controlled) engaged in a huge firefight with a bonus reward at the end. You can jump in or just leave them. Anything goes. Sometimes these are 3x drop ships to be cleared in a given time, others a huge great walker appears which is really tough - this has been shown in vids I've seen online.) Encoded 'blueprints' are randomly dropped which can be decoded, back at the tower, for armour, weapons and they come in common, uncommon, rare, legendary flavours. Materials can also be found and, I assume, come the full game, used for crafting upgrades. I have a lot of stuff that I cannot do anything with in the alpha. Why it's like Mass Effect: The tower is pure ME - sellers, upgraders, merchants, NPE, ambience, graphical feel, sounds everything - it just feels exactly like ME to me. Why it's like CoD: Weapons, better TTK than anything Bungie has ever done (except maybe original Magnum) Pure Gunplay is more useful than ever before. Movement is leaning toward CoD and the Guns feel more like CoD overall (to me anyway) Why it's like Borderlands: Co-op, weapon tiers and colours, abilities, customization etc - plus, of course - the PvE game-play. There's even a vault ) It's just like Borderlands. Why it's like Halo: C'mon - it's Bungie. Super slick, polished, balanced, MUSIC, epic feel, has longer TTK than CoD but not long as traditional Bungie games. Why it's like Skyrim: Crafting, material gathering, is clearly in the full game (although not the alpha) and huge 'go anywhere and see what you can find' worlds. If it's not too late, I suggest everyone of you console owners pre-order for a beta code. Don't forget, once you've got the code you can cancel the pre-order. Also whatever platform you order for, you're not tied to that system to play the beta on. You specify that just before the beta release. You can choose to play the beta on any console irrespective of your pre-order. You just get a bungie code which you register on bungie.net - at the point of beta release you get a link to choose the console to generate a system code. I think that's it. I could go on and on, it's slick as hell, looks amazing, sounds and feels incredible and truly feels like Bungie sat back, looked at what's out there and distilled all the fan favourite bits into a single, massive experience. I love it.

Doesn't look like it. I don't like how there's no "Halo" option, with melee on "O" (or "B"). Not entirely thrilled about that. Probably have to play with Cold Shoulder or Green Thumb and it'll end up feeling more like COD.

There are very few times I saw people using melee to get a kill, so it might not be a big deal. That said, I hope that they add at least the popular controller layout into the game. Give players the power to choose.

Plus with the melee button being one of those powers it's more important and I'd rather have it on the more controllable button.
