Got two characters to 8 with Witty and a third to 7. This game is friggen incredible. I thought I would be bored with free roam, but they have interesting quests you can pick up in addition to heavily rewarded boss battles at the end of some of those quests (10 spin metal + glimmer + weapon/house banner). This will probably be enough to keep me playing throughout beta since Crucible doesn't interest me atm.
Devil's Lair is a wonderful challenge too.

I have now finally had the chance to play the game for a day, I think I have clocked in about 3-5 hours of playtime so far. I found the game very enjoyable and engaging, I usually only buy 2-3 games a year, and Its usually Cod or something I'll get at least a year of playtime on, Im not really interested in fad games like Far Cry or Bioshock that only lasts a couple of days. I have only played the warlock so far, and I am level 7. I picked the warlock because it seemed the most powerful, and suits my very, very campy/defensive/playstyle. The only problem I have with the class is the hover jump thing, I usually can't make the B jump on venus. I also like the Exo species a lot, and really wish you could go helmet-less in the crucible as I find most of the helmets in the game so for rather plain looking. The PVP, which was never my main focus with the game, turned out to be very enjoyable. Although Im not a big fan of the Moon map, mostly because I do not like vehicle combat (I most likely have to adapt to this). I have only played two maps though, the only maps that seem to come up is the Moon and Venus map. I really love burst rifles, M16, M16A4, G11, SWAT-556, Type 95 were all my favorite weapons in the games they featured. Sadly the burst/"pulse" weapons I've encountered so far are rather lacking, even in PVE. I never used the auto 20-24 mag rifle that most people use, as I didnt find it too effective long range, but it is great for PVE. In online multiplayer I had most success with the semi automatic scout rifle, I also have a piece of armor that slightly increases my reload for scout rifle, but I dont know if this is placebo as it might be disabled for PVP. I found it very effective for long to medium range firefights, and mine has a 11 round magazine, while I've seen people with 19 rounds mags I believe. The heavy machine guns tear everything apart and are better than all primary weapons in nearly every way. I really enjoy the multiplayer as of right now, the health system, radar system, heavy weapons and special ammo, the domination gametype are all very well done in my opinion. I do have some trouble knowing what to use and felt a bit lost in the beginning, the lack of a in-depth killfeed and killcam makes it hard to follow the herd in terms of what is good to use and "op". I really like the radar system, it is consitent, and i never have trouble finding people. That is what I have gathered, here are some pet peeve questions, I feel really uncomftarble not know these things (probably mostly being used to know the statistic of all guns of the game I've played): 1. There seems to be a revive system in PVP, though I have not ever encountered being revived, or being able to revive someone. How does this work? And if revived, does it still count as a death? 2. Are the any form of career stats for crucible and/or online? I know there is overall score, but is there something along the lines of kills, deaths, kill to death ratio, win to lose ratio? And if so, is it viewable by others? And if so, online or in-game, and if so are you able to make this private? 3. Is PVP a respectable way to level up your character, or is it similar to how in Cod: Ghosts "squads" were the leveling up is so minuscule it isn't worth it, would someone be able to solely play PVP and have a nice game experience or is ranking up dong story/fireteam missions marginally better way to level up, or are these two ways comparable? 4. What exactly are level advantages? (mentioned in PVP, example ">>Level advantages disabled") I noticed their disabled in all of PVP, but what exactly does a level mean on paper? Apart from accessing new armor, new weapons, abilities, and others. Does any of your abilities, health and damage get better in any sort of way with each level? Apart from the obvious new level trees (example: "Training focused on battle recovery and speed"). Does a level have a significant difference in PVP, apart form having access to more abilities. 5. To add to the level question, are there any differences between health, health regen and damage taken between the classes, or are the scaled down for balance? Example does the Warlock regen health significantly faster than other classes, and does the titan take a lot more damage/have more health? 6. How is the melee? Is it a great tactic to use melee in certain situations, when does it guarantee a one-hit? And does some classes have significantly better melee? 7. How are the guns balanced? Are they scaled accordingly to their likeness/type. For example someone might have a scout rifle with 11 round magazine, while someone else might have the same scout rifle but found it at a significantly higher level, and it having a 15 round magazine, will these two weapons still do the same damage with the only difference being obvious magazine size? And how does weapon attachments work, if at all. I've noticed some other people have the exact same scout rifle as me, with a different type of red dot/scope/sight on it, is there any way to customize/upgrade your weapons in any way apart from the obvious mini skill tree some of the weapons have? 8. How do the story missions work, I thought originally they were only for 3 players, but while jumping into old russia I've come across up 6 players around my casing mayhem. And what is the point of this? Will these people be bale to steal my kills? Do they disappear when I enter darkness zones? 9. There is a red circle around the crucible on the map, what does this mean? 10. Are there not type of text chat or voice chat in this game? 11. Does teaming up with people in a "fireteam" have a significant advantage playing story missions? So far I've completed all solo, do they scale with players or not? 12. Does the game try to find new players after each crucible match, if so, why? Is there no lobby system in this game? 13. Are there servers in this game, if so, how do I choose servers? I notice not every single person playing this game appear in the tower, could someone elaborate on this, I have never played a MMO RPG before of any kind. 14 . Is there any way to access other maps in multiplayer? I can only play two of them. 15. Is there any way to store weapons, or sell them for currency? I am quickly running out of space for weapons. 16. I noticed doing certain things in PVP great reduced my cooldown on my abilities, how does this work? It was significantly faster than in PVE. Thanks for help in advance, I am very much looking forward to this game. 1. Nope no revives 2. bungie.net and companion app, need to filter for pvp though 3. No, PvE, strikes and bountys do it faster 4. access to more abilities 5. seems health is scaled to a neutral value, played as both titan and warlock with significant differences in toughness and recovery and didn't notice any differences in pvp 6. Melee is strong, much like halo, where by you can shoot for awhile then melee to finish if close, or shotgun + melee quick kill combo. 7. not 100% sure but this makes most sense, gun damage scaled back to neutral values (much like health but this is per weapon category), other stats (impact range etc) stay, weapon upgrades (need uncommons or above) seem to come across, with exception to the inherent damage buff at the end of weapon upgrade tree. sights and weird mods stick by the looks. 8. strikes are 3 players only, open world and story should be unlimited (haven't tried), but basically you bump into other people along the way while playing PvE 12. generally no, it does work like a lobby but you only see the players you are partied with. 13. the tower has districts that allocate people for best performance, (less lag) 14 . nope, there was iron banner for 2 hrs awhile back 15. can store them in your vault (at tower), or dismantle which makes weapons parts and glimmer 16. kinda works like a score streak system for your super, it has a slow recharge but performing actions charge it up faster. played alot more PvP, plays like a faster Halo than compared to CoD, weapons over range seem fairly balanced ie auto rifle good close and medium, scout if great for long etc.

I guess precise kills are headshots and ability kill is melee? Tight hipfire I noticed, just like Halo. Semi-auto rifle, forget the name, OHK with a headshot (campaign at least).

I must be missing something.
I tried it last night. After what was one of the most annoying coupon/code redemption processes I have ever seen, sending me all over the place trying to make things work, I got the game loaded on my XB1. I wanted to choke someone from Bungie after doing it. But here's my take, from my noob perspective (I've never done WoW). This is mostly a recopy of what I posted in another thread...
After what seemed like eight hours getting this game on my XB1, I did the intro/tutorial. I made some blue skinned woman with a yellow mohawk. That was fun. Shot some things in the next part, very CoD feel to the controls. No other thoughts there, other than the flying light bulb reminded me of Cortana from Halo. I then flew into the home-base tower, where I met the metal-smith, the gun-smith, the flight guy, all the other people walking around. Went to the gun shop and saw the guns. I couldn't use any of them. Got confused at the relic shop. I had no clue what any of that was about, a bunch of names beginning with x, z and other strange sounds. Why does magic stuff always do that? I was a bit overwhelmed. I started to try and shoot people there, but the game wouldn't let me. After about 30 minutes I figured out to how to fix my ship and then proceeded to the next part.
The game let me fly back to Earth, somewhere in Russia. Looks to be a huge map, but I was only able to access one part, the VeloDrome or something like that? Battledome? I'm calling out Mel Gibson at this point. I land on an outdoor map. It's huge. I'm suppose to find some spaceship parts. Oh oh....IW5000 and quests don't mix well. I start moving around and shooting stuff. Then some more. So yeah, the control scheme is all CoD, total CoD feel, but the actual hit markers, enemies, damages....complete Halo field, especially with the regen shields. Worked very well. No lag, felt good. I have to say, it did also have a Borderland's feel in the visuals, but no where quite as cartoony? Or maybe that was due to the +7. +7, +7, damage markers that went up after damaging opponents, trailing off above the enemy.
I did the above for an hour last night, and about 30 minutes this morning. I have no clue where to go. The map is huge. I found other humans like me running around, but no way to talk to them. Everyone doing their own thing. I kept getting lost. It quickly became repetitious, very Borderland's feel to it. Kill some aliens. Walk a bit. Kill some aliens. Get a duffel bag of loot. Stuff I had no clue what to do with. Repeat. Repeat again. Go in tunnels, do the same. Come out of tunnels, do the same. I found monsters that appear to have higher hit points or levels? They are harder to kill. I tried, got some, but some killed me. I tried jumping off the cliffs. I died. Going into the water. Then climbing cliffs. That was kind of fun. I tossed my lightbulb thing into the air, hoping it would show me where to go, but it always said it couldn't get a signal.
After about a half hour this morning, I just got bored. I want to have some fun. Shoot people. Where's the PvP lobbies? Shooting enemy AI opponents is boring. It had the exact same feel as Halo, with how they moved - shoot, cover, use shields, shoot, etc..but like Halo, if I just move back a bit, leave the room/area, they never pursued. This made things very boring to me.
I want to like this game, but this wasn't fun at all. Maybe someone can help me here? I must be missing something.

Yeah I couldn't find Crucible at first. You know the part where the vaults are kept? Head towards the steps in the centre, go down them and you will see two AIs that are for Crucible stuff. I'd say it reminds me more of Mass Effect than Borderlands but maybe that is because I spent an age at the Citadel...

You can talk to people not in your fireteam, walk up to them, then when prompted hit R3 to interact.
Always make sure your weapon/armor slots are not full by dismantling/vaulting them. If your slots are full and you pick something up, it disappears. You'll lose rare weapons that way, and feel like a total dum-dum.
Teaming up in a fireteam for missions makes them more fun, and also lets you take on a higher difficulty level. I was doing the level 2 mission on higher difficulty and failing repeatedly, then Jonesy joined my fireteam and we were able to pass it easily. Also, Orbs of Light are a nice bonus. Last night, GodMars and I did one of the missions repeatedly with terrible weapons - once Hand Cannon only, once Shotgun only, once Sniper only.

Also, last night we tried the "hold B and C" strategy. Worked perfectly on both maps.

I have seen videos of the orb of light, but have no clue where to get it. I'll keep plugging along.

Regarding melee in PvP - if the enemy is unaware of your presence, go ahead and melee, then melee again, they're not going to be able to turn on you in time. If they are aware of your presence, make sure to shoot, then melee. If you melee, then shoot, the time to draw your gun after the melee will get you killed, it's much quicker to shoot and then melee.
When an enemy sneaks up on you, hits you with a melee, you're confused and trying to figure out what hit you, and then they melee you again - that's a horrible moment.

I agree, the game does not do the hand holding for beginners like COD does, and there are definitely times I've resorted to Googling. It definitely could stand to be a little more intuitive. Weapon slots - bring up the loadout screen - for each item there's the one you have equipped, move the cursor over it and there's 9 reserve slots. If all 10 slots are full, when you pick up an item all of your slots are full, and it just disappears into the ether. Vault is just a way to store additional items, or transfer them between your characters. When you go to tower, walk up to one of the things that look like ATMs directly in front of you to the right. When you kill enemies with your super move, it will frequently say "iw5000 created X orbs of light". They'll be on the ground where you killed the enemies. You can't pick them up, but friendly players can. Picking them up gives a boost to recharging your super.

Yeah the game still doesn't really explain a lot of things. I wound up figuring things out just experimenting with stuff. I don't know what buttons they mapped things to on Xbox, but try them all out.
You prolly got things mostly figured out by now, but just in case.
There's a button that brings up your ghost. He should always be able to show you a waypoint where you should go unless you're on the free roam thing and not near a mission beacon. When you have him up you also hold a button to go to orbit and leave the mission or hold another to summon your speeder if you have it, but only outdoors. You also always have an arrow to your objective waypoint on your radar. It seems confusing but the open areas are very open and the interiors are fairly linear so it's usually pretty easy to stay on track with your mission.
Another button brings up your equipped items and you can scroll through to your inventory, and settings, ect... with the shoulder buttons. Swapping your special weapon will discard all it's ammo, BTW. You can compare all your gear and dismantle unneeded things here.
On the bottom left of the HUD are your cooldown timers. You'll see icons for your grenades and if you have a special melee attack there. And the big fat bar on top that turns gold is your super. Though you don't get any of that stuff at level 1.
Orbs of light are dropped by other players when they use their super and they can help charge yours.
If you like exploring be sure to look for chests, dead ghosts to revive, and spinmetal. Near as I can tell spinmetal will appear in the same places, but not every time. It's fairly randomized, but it also respawns even if you don't leave the map. Chests and dead ghosts are gone once found, though chests at least can be found again on another character. (Not sure about dead ghosts.) There are a TON of chests. I spent a few hours in free roam last night just roaming around finding spinmetal and found a lot of chests while I was at it, and I thought I'd already found quite a few during the missions.
As for PvE if you want something more challenging give Devil's Lair a go when you can. I personally quite enjoyed it.
You can select difficulty from orbit when you're selecting your destination. If you've got a handle on things and are finding it easy I'd recommend hard. I'm mostly preferring it now that I'm off my training wheels and popping enemies in the head with my scout rifle.
Good luck and have fun. Ask away if you have any questions. I'm sure the bro's will help.

Devil's Lair can be accessed how? Just come back from a match of Crucible (it is raining in Venus) and I swear I had inferior guns. The shotgun never got a OHK and the burst delay on the AR was quite long given the fast pace of the game. :/

This will probably be enough to keep me playing throughout beta since Crucible doesn't interest me atm. Devil's Lair is a wonderful challenge too. Second this! For me personally this game is seriously addictive. First, general impressions: Since I started this thread, it is apparent to everybody here that I am probably one of the biggest Bungie fanboys that are hyped by the hype train . Now I finally get a chance to play the game, I have to say that what I saw so far is as good as I expected and beyond. The graphics, the sound, the environment, the combat sandbox, the characters, the enemy, the weapons... Man, when this game comes out, I am seriously in danger of being consumed by it Now into some specifics: Even with the very limited game play choices in the beta, I have been finding new things to do all the time. What I have done so far: 1) Play all three characters to level 8 by a) playing the story missions on hard setting, b) playing the Strike mission, and c) free roam in the Cosmodrome. 2) Pick my most favorite character (Hunter), give it all the green weapons / armors (I am able to find one for each category) through vault, and work on fully upgrade them while playing free roaming. I am done almost done with everything: Scout Rifle, 2 Auto Rifles, Pulse Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Fusion Rifle, Shot gun, one of each armor pieces. The only one left is Hand Cannon. Not to mention that the character subclass has a lot to upgrade. 3) While doing 2) through free roaming: also work on the adhoc missions discovered by the Ghost. Also, pick up any Vanguard bounties offered by the bounty tracker. (If you like this game but haven't done this, you have gotta give it a try. The amount of rewards you are able to earn are incredible, weapons, gears, glimmers, encrypted engrams, weapon parts, materials... I was showered by these left and right ) 4) Join public events whenever there is one coming (the cue of this happening is the sky is suddenly darkening, as if a thunderstorm is about to happen). They are wonderful fire fight fun of multiple guardians made possible by seamless matchmaking. Just to give one example of what it is like: there are times that the battlefield is littered with 7-8+ Orbs of Light from super usage of friendly guardians, and I am able to recharge my super right after using it. That's how intense it can be 5) Dumien and I were also taking our time to explore the map, looking for secret locations. There are where we'll meet high level enemies with cool & formidable titles and "??" as level indicators, and immune to anything we throw at them. What do we do in these situations? We put our weapon down and practice our movement skills by running like hell The goal is to get to the secret loot chests before getting killed. There is this one "green cave" that are populated with ?? enemies that we ware able to run through to the other end without dying, only to find even more scary enemies at the end waiting for us By doing 3 - 5, we become very rich in glimmers (the in-game currency), as well as earned various "ranks", "marks", etc for different things. Each of us have put down 2000+ glimmers to buy a cool looking ship, so now even the dreaded cut scenes (my only major beef with the game so far) becomes a show case of our wealth This is only PvE, We haven't even done Crucible yet. That's where we are heading next with my beloved hunter, who is now armed to the teeth with fully upgraded green weapons & armors (Character upgrade progress wise: I am almost done with the second row.)

Best gear for level 5 please? Th burst delay on this thing is annoying. Also, the Preacher shotgun sucks. Give me the Gnasher damn it.

If you read my text wall above, you will know how much time I have sunk into this beta Here is my impressions on the weapons looking back from where I am now: 1) don't worry about weapons too much at level 5. It is safe to say anything I own at level 5 are crappy compared to what I am using right now 2) feel free to use any weapons you can get your hands on, but don't get attached to the white ones. What you want to do is to find green ones you like, then stick with them until you complete the full upgrade (does not take long to do that) 3) some weapons may feel crappy when naked become great once you got the upgrades. For example, say you have a green Auto Rifle with high rate of fire but crazy recoil. Don't throw it away yet, stick with it and once you unlock the recoil reduction upgrade it can be really strong.

What you need to do is to play with us Last night I accepted your invite and joined your fire team, but can't hear anything you say. Can you hear me? After that looks like you simply went offline...

Sorry Witty, I never knew you were there. Could you see my character? I don't remember seeing anyone with me, or at least you. I was running around the CosmoDrone thing/place, trying to do find rocket ship parts and kill stuff. Is that when you joined?

Cheers. Made it to level 6 and there were some significant upgrades last time I was at the Tower. The only green gun I have is the burst fire AR that I'm not liking. Shorter burst delay or more damage and I wouldn't mind possibly. Got Titan Codex I, which appears to be Toughness and Dexterity or something. That could have been handy at my first match of Crucible.

I see, looks like you are trying to find the best weapons for Crucible. In that case, white or green does not matter much, finding one that fits your play style is critical. I'll share the list of weapons I like the best out of each categories in the follow up post.

Oh I'm not overly fussed on Crucible if I can find this Borderlands game mode. I'm quite flexible on play styles anyway. I prefer a bit of range though. A semtex crossbow would be lively but I haven't seen on in this game.

My weapons of each category - part 1
Primary weapons: love Scout Rifle for mid to long range, and Auto Rifle for short to mid range
1) Scout Rifle:
Jigoku SR3 is great. Once I started using it I am set. Did not even try the other Scout Rifles. If you can get a green one and get the second sight, the weapon feels incredible. Very similar to DMR in Halo Reach.
Auto Rifle: I have two green ones
Cydonia-AR3 Shingen-C
I like Shigen much better than Cydonia in PvE. High rate of fire with large mag size, so I can take down multiple enemies without reloading. Need to try both in Crucible to see which one is better for that role
Pulse Rifle:
I have a green SUROS JPS-32. It is decent in PvE, quick bursts with manageable recoil. However, I would prefer Scout Rifle and Auto Rifle in Crucible
Hand Cannon:
I have a green Bandit Mk.36 that I have still yet to fully upgrade. Hand Cannons are the coolest kid in the primary weapon block, the headshots are very satisfying. Not going to use it in Crucible, but will do most of my PvE with this;

Only 8 out of our 15 clan members have actually registered their PSN/Live ID with the clan (which means they're only group members, not actually clan members). If you haven't done so, please choose "Set as Playstation Clan" or "Set as Xbox Clan" on the Den Kirson clan page. Thanks!

My weapons of each category - part 2 Special weapons: all the categories are great! However, Sniper Rifle and Fusion Rifle get style points over Shot gun in my book Sniper Rifle: Pompeii-LR3 Honestly speaking, I cant really tell much difference among Sniper Rifles. Seems to me that only 2 things are important: the raw damage, and the scope. The fully upgraded Pompeii-LR3 I own does 1400+ damage on headshots, that's insane. Fusion Rifle: Dammerung FR3 When choosing Fusion Rifles you want to find one with good range. I am satisfied with this one. Shotgun: Graviton ESm Once I fall in love with Fusion Rifle, Shotgun feels severely "range"-challenged. That opinion could change though once I start playing Crucible...

My weapons of each category - part 3
Heavy weapons: in PvE don't hesitate to pull these out when you are overwhelmed by large number of enemies. They will drop as flies...
Machine Gun: Sargon-C is the one I have fully upgraded. It has lower rate of fire, which is not a problem in Destiny because I want to go for headshots anyway.
Rocket Launcher; I have Jester SA/3. Compared to Machine Gun, RL feels too situational. You can have 120 max ammon for MG, but only 5 for RL. So I am going for MG unless I am doing RL challenges.

Keep in mind all my impressions so far are limited to PvE. I'll share my thoughts on weapons in PvP once I put some time into Crucible.

Considering its a MMO, I assume it'll be used for organization, clan achievement tracking, rewards, and the like.

The clan GodMars created is for both PSN and XBL. You should join too I was thinking whether we should create one for HSV1. But decided not to worry about it until we see enough interests from clan members. So far we only have you, me, aroc and mal committed to this game. The others are hesitant at the best.
