Markopolo is right. The QBB LSW is by far the best LMG. I've tried out Rapid Fire, but the damage drop-off is too harsh. I favor a more balanced approach with : -hardline, flack jacket -toughness -engineer -reflex and quickdraw -EMP grenade -FHJ launcher
I do run a launcher, because shooting down two UAVs with hard-line or a bigger scorestreak will 1) get you tons of points and 2) make winning the game easier. Very few people run launchers so I just see them as bonus points. EMP grenades are a must. Quickdraw and Reflex Sight for attachments let you gun down anything and anyone. I'm going to try out playing with Grip instead of Flak Jacket and perhaps a silencer over a Reflex sight. The latter might work since the damn muzzle flash is too much when you ADS in, but the silencer removes it.
Stock only seems useful if you also run Lightweight, but Hardline and Flak Jacket are simply better fits for the LMGs.

I think you're being far too logical here, Morriscat. Far. too. logical. If I were going to get all logical, I'd start whinging about how so many weapons in CoD that fire the SAME ROUND do such different damage. The SMR, the FAL, and the MK48 all fire 7.62x51mm NATO, THEY SHOULD DO THE SAME DAMAGE! The Vector should have less recoil! ARGH!

I had no idea so many people used LMG's on here. I finally... feel...at home But here's my two cent's--Every class of weapon in this game lacks SOMETHING. The difference between LMG's and everything else is that they are consistently incredibly powerful across the board. Lag issues, counter-smg play, sniper supression (and almost every other complaint-worthy aspect of this game) can be nulled with a strong weapon. I've found a ton of success using LMG's. I use them differently though. I use them almost as hybrid-AR's because in real life, they're just too slow and bulky to take advantage of their incredible power. MY default LMG class: ANY LMG quickdraw supressor lazer (pri. GF) LW, hardline (or, flak jacket if you're less try-hard) toughness dexterity QD helps for the ranged battles, supressor keeps you off the map for those wonderful chain kills. LS is amazing in CQC--absolutely mows them down. LW is essential it makes you FEEL like you're using an assault rifle. toughness makes those 3HK's LEGITIMATE and dexterity for the aforementioned CQC advantage when paired with the LS. I honestly challenge anyone to try out this class. I promise you won't regret it

how big is the range dropoff on the mk if you use rapidfire and silencer? how far out does its 3 hit kill still go?

also kina unnecessary, but the MK48 w/ RF+FMJ is one of the fastest way of taking down streaks.
Last time I played, I was playing some multiteam with RJ/Slick and was doing terrible. I was just feeling the brunt of the sickness at that point. So, I decided to just play support. We won all our games but our enemies kept getting lucky carepackages. They got 2 VTOLs at one point.
The first VTOL I shot down with an RPG....lol
The second I put down super fast with the MK48.

I had no idea so many people used LMG's on here. I finally... feel...at home {SNIP} I honestly challenge anyone to try out this class. I promise you won't regret it To be honest.... I did: 1. While I like QD, I just don't find it good enough to warrent an attachement.... I get around it by hipfiring at my victim, then adsing for the last few bullets to put them down. 2. Supressor is a perma attachment for me. Keeping off the radar is a must, at least for my tactical loitering style. 3. While I enjoy the laser, again, it's not super valuable for me. I do find it to be good on the QBB because it is a hipfiring machine, but I really find that it is the only gun I get hipfire kills from. I have 9+ custom classes.... 4 of them are each of the LMG's with the TF, Supressor, and Stock.... because that is my tryhard setup and if I'm getting my nuts slapped too hard for my liking, I jump on one of those. As well, it depends on your combat style. I find that unless it's a smaller map (Hijacked) the above setup is quite nice because by the time they've found out where you are, you're 3 bullets into the 5 or so you need to put them down. As I wrote before Any LMG - Target Finder for those red diamonds o death - Supressor to stay off the maps so they can't find you - Whatchalike (stock, qd, grip, fmj, rfire) On the QBB, I use laser sight because it is probably the only LMG that you can effectively win most CQC fights... on the LSAT and MK, I use RFire (especially the MK... it and RFire is a match made in heaven) on the HAMR is use FMJ..... but really, FMJ does go on any of them. No secondary, tacticals, or lethals (those are for wussies ;>) LMG is all you need Blind eye to stay off user guided killstreaks, cold blooded to stay off enemy target systems, dexterity to not feel like you're running through mud and concrete, and engineer to not run into betties. (if you're using the QBB, add scavenger to your 2nd tier, and drop engineer) The 2 wild cards (PGF and Perk Greed) rounds out your top 10. Once you get used it, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. Thank me later

also kina unnecessary, but the MK48 w/ RF+FMJ is one of the fastest way of taking down streaks. Last night, I shot down 2 stealth choppers with a similar setup (RF, FMJ, supressor) I was so shocked as to how easy it was. And the post game lobby hate was fun too

Just diamonded my LMGs. I never got around to going after any diamond guns except the Specials... Today I just went after all the challenges.
By the time I was done with all the "naked" challenges all I had left were the longshot challenges. I found those a bit less laborious to do, but they required a more active effort on my part. I ended up playing GW solo on Raid for about 3 games in a row. I got many longshots through the center walls. I actually got a nice montage clip with the LSAT...
Here are my 2 cents for each gun.
QBB - plays best like an SMG and feels very BO1 Famas-ish. Burst fire when long range but treat it like an SMG in that respect.
LSAT - Surprisingly....I love this gun. Something about it just feels right. I started hating this thing with a supreme bias, but I found it to strike a nice balance.
MK48 - Started by loving this gun. Ended by loving this gun. Hands down the best use for RF in the game as previously mentioned.
HAMR - Another great gun - Handles well and rewards alert play. Keep the burst fire going and you have a dangerous CQC weapon too.
For my play style at least, I found I need LW/Dex or Ghost/Dex. I also use Fast hands by default for quick running and tac placement.
I also loved the ammo count on the LSAT/MK. I actually used EM for a while to eliminate the need for a reload before my VSAT/Lodestar go up. For the record I use EM on my main PDW class...I love me my multikills.
For the QBB you are going to want to play to its strengths, Maximize speed and mobility.
For the MK48 you have two ways to play it. Put RF on it to take advantage of its range and monster 4HK or treat it like the ACR and take advantage of its natural accuracy. Because of those two methods, the mk48 has the most options available to it. as an LMG.
LSAT - On paper you are better off with the MK48, but the LSAT shines close/mid with pretty stable recoil. If you use attachments to take advantage of that, when you can use it to its full potential. At long range you aren't going to suffer much if one hit was a headshot.
HAMR - I felt I could fight at any range with this gun. I also had no problems leveling up the gun without perks and attachments. It really doesn't need attachments...which is a huge plus for it.

I have settled on the Mk48 as my go-to LMG. The setup is suppressed, with QD and TF. Perks go Light, Tough, and Dex. Top off with the Stinger and an empanda.

For those who use it:
I was under the impression that, when using an LMG, that you didn't move fast enough for Ghost to register/take effect... so it was a worthless-ish perk.
Have I been misinformed?

how big is the range dropoff on the mk if you use rapidfire and silencer? how far out does its 3 hit kill still go? Rapid Fire multiplies by 0.6, Silencer by 0.7, so together the new range is 42% of the original range. This reduces the 3HK range to 1,470. This is still more than the stock version of any other LMG, and it never drops to a 5HK like the others.

Have I been misinformed? Yes. The cut-off is if you are moving at 50% speed. So if you're ADS walking, you will show up on radar, but if you're using Adjustable Stock, you will not. not enough to make the difference between showing up and being invisible while ADS walking.

But lightweight always helps. I have it on most of my classes. Am I the only one that slightly prefers the LSAT > MK48? I really like the firerate on that thing and I love the iron sights.

I hold them on par with one another. A buddy of mine who plays purely hardcore loves it because it tells you how much ammo you have left.

And blue bullets. Don't know why, but blue bullets. They fire plasma rounds.
