Penetration is crazy in this game. I can't even begin to count how many times i have been shot through walls while in rooms.

I'm finding that FMJ provides virtually no help on UAVs So true. Biggest disappointment ever :*(

Did anyone test how many shots it takes, with and without FMJ, for an LMG to take out streaks?
I'd be interested in seeing if FMJ is useful outside of penetration like Blind Eye Pro was in MW3.

With FMJ, it took me an entire 75-round mag from the HAMR to destroy a UAV. The HAMR and the QBBeast are awesome, but the maps are so small that they're only useful in objective modes like Dom and Hardpoint. I just wish DJ Von would lower the number of headshots needed to get the camo challenges. I've almost prestiged my HAMR and I only have 20 headshots with it.

I picked up an LMG in Nuketown and had great fun stopping the other team from coming out from behind their house. I think it was the LSAT.

I think MW2 (and MW3 to an extent) had the best LMGs. The drawbacks of LMGs are too much imo.
Pros Huge Mag High Prone Accuracy High Range (only MK48)
Cons High Spread Low Speed High ADS time High Reload/Add time High Raise/Drop time
Christmas is looking a little more red this year.
The high damage and infinite range in MW2 was perfect imo. The good ones even had high accuracy and RPM too.
In MW3, specialist helped negate a lot of the drawbacks for LMGs without too much sacrifice. Speed, Kick, Steady Aim, Quickdraw, Sleight of Hand, Stalker... all very powerful on LMGs. Of course, specialist also helped ARs and SMGs but it brought LMGs closer to the others. Not to mention thermal accuracy and post-patch buffs, LMGs were looking good. With blindeye pro, LMGs were the perfect anti-killstreak machines.
In BO2... we just have the MK48, which doesn't really standout too much. Everything else is a nerfed AR. I hope 3arc does an LMG patch like IW did.
Edit: If rapid fire wasn't so nerfed, that could have been a plus for LMGs over ARs.

MK48 is what I'm rocking at the moment and really want to try the HAMR when that is unlocked. I started with BO, but loved the M60 in BO and in MW3. The MW3 L86 was damned good as well.

So what's the verdict on the most usable LMG in this game? Is it the MK48 because of its ridiculous 3 shot kill range? Trying to find the best one to level up.

Yes. I have used all of the LMGs a good bit by now. The MK48 is by far my favorite. It feels like a reincarnated MW3 ACR with more than 3 times the ammo and worse handling. The thing is an absolute monster. My current K/D with it is 2.11. Note that my normal use of it is to plant myself (assault shield overkill) right on the Bdom flag or in the center of high traffic areas. Personally. that K/D is pretty great for me. I use weapon K/D as a measure of my personal success.
My highest K/D LMG is the QBB LSW at 2.21. It is far more forgiving if you miss and makes great use of the CQC attachments.

Myself, I like the MK48 and the HAMR. I prefer the HAMR at the moment though.
After testing: FMJ is useless. It probably takes 40-50 bullets from the MK48 to be able to take down a UAV...

Yeah, I was a little worried about that. Even when using Hardened Pro in BO1, doing high damage on killstreaks was nigh-pointless. Was sure hoping for MW3s' damage module instead. :C
That said, the LMGs are surprisingly potent this time around, especially when one considers the lack of grip to be of no real detrimental. Right now I'm teetering between the MK48 and HAMR -- both are just so good.

I'm loving the HAMR for times where I know the majority of the encounters will be close, and run the MK48 when I figure most will be long range. I might try Quickdraw + ACOG + Silencer on the MK48 at some point...

What are your guys' setups for lmgs and how do you......use them? I haven't really used these since mw2 when the maps were more spread out than probaddies ass cheeks. I haven't been using them that much. To date, in to many games to mention, i felt like I needed to be moving faster to get to the action, and once there, ...it's all CQC stuff. There's no time lol. I have had to put the LMG's away. I haven't even shot a sniper rifle yet. When i have tried them, ..the Hammer has been the gun with the best results for me. I think that's the one with the slight pause in the RoF. I've been experimenting with all attachments, not sure what is best yet. To hard to tell...if the gun was working well, or the other players were bad. TF does seem to have some use though.

Dumien, what do you think of the Hammer? Alright if our current theory about flinch/dvk (more damage = more flinch) is correct...the MK48 is the best for what I use it for....The initial flinch to win all of my forward facing gunfights with the assault shield. The hammer is a pretty cool guy, but I don't think I have been able to use it properly and it isn't killing people as quickly and consistently as I would like. What are your guys' setups for lmgs and how do you......use them? I haven't really used these since mw2 when the maps were more spread out than probaddies ass cheeks. LMGs are bar none my favorite gun class type in Blops2 and believe me... I love me some chicom and pdw. However, there is one stipulation...I only use them LMGs in tandem with the assault shield. Ask witty/iw. So, I guess for the biggest parts of my strategy you will have to wait for my assault shield guide (coming out in 2-3) months. However, I will outline the basics right here. Class - LMG Target finder/dualband Laser Sight (absolutely necessary Overkill Assault Shield Flak Jacket Tac Mask Those 7/10 I use on all of my LMG classes barring the LSW which I have a bit more freedom with. In addition I like fast hands. Behind the shield I throw back frags all the time. I got 3 throw backs in a row yesterday on turbine. Gotta protect your planted shield from explosions! In CQC I run around with the LMG for easy hipfire kills. If I am in an open area in danger of being hit by long ranges I pull out the shield. Once I get to an open choke point with no other head-glitching spots I plant my shield, reforming the map (spoilers for the assault shield guide....this is the best part of the shield in this game), and taking advantage of the lockdown capabilities the LMGs naturally have. With this setup you are never in a position of weakness. On maps like drone I am perfectly happy (if I have proper flank support, putting myself squarely on the Bdom flag and waiting. I see a head. I line it up with my shield window. I shoot the fool. LMGs ensure the you have the capacity to mow down an entire team if they try to outnumber you from afar. Most of my killstreaks end up something like this.... *run run run* *plant* *toss a trophy* *check flank routes* *peer out window* *see a dude* *pop shot* *kill* *14 seconds later* *dude comes back with a buddy* *pop shot on one followed by a duck* *line up the second* *popshot again* *repeat* My favorite is when they all try to rush you thinking you are "attached to the shield* ...The you just casually mow them down. en masse.

Snipers are definitely rarely usable. Great for defending on meltdown though I feel a bit of indigestion starting to swell up inside....every time at game start, i hear a teammate say, "HEY GUYS, i'M GOING TO SNIPE THIS MAP"" I do realize snipers have a role. They can help. When you are ahead, they can be a huge nuisance to the other team. But at game start, or especially when you are behind.....they are utterly useless. Like of no value at all. If you are behind in Dom...you need to swarm B. Swarm the flanks, push back the other team, attack. Sniping from your own spawn, hoping to get a kill on the B area (when no opponent will actually be sitting there), is the height of stupidity. I'm almost at the point of not playing with certain people anymore who insist on sniping at the start. These people NEVER EVER are capable of covering my butt when i am lying on B trying to cap a flag. And it grates me to no end, to start off a game 1-5 trying to get B locked down, while they sit away in some room stroking it because they are 1-0.

What are your guys' setups for lmgs and how do you......use them? I haven't really used these since mw2 when the maps were more spread out than probaddies ass cheeks. DISCLAIMER: I am of the opinion that, while I don't do too bad some games and do well others, I generally suck and am a terrible player. BO was my first CoD game and I played Domination almost exclusively, as my 189 Dom hours compared to 8 HQ hours will show, with 1.14 K/D if you care. MW3 I played Domination for a long time and then moved to Barebones (107 Dom and ~33 for KC/TDM) and got 1.29 K/D. BO2 I'm going to play Domination almost exclusively. So keep in mind that this is from a self-proclaimed terrible player who plays Domination almost exclusively. In BO: 1) Close Up Rambo: Just run around a small map being Rambo (mainly Nuketown and Firing Range) M60 + Grip Flak Jacket Pro + Sleight of Hand Pro + Tactical Mask Pro Frag + Nova 2) Nova Spam Overwatch: Keep an area locked down with Nova Gas and give supression fire otherwise (Domination) M60 + Big Ammo + Grip Scavenger Pro + Warlord Pro + Tactical Mask Pro Semtek + Nova In MW3: 1) Anti-Sniper (I suck with Snipers, so I'd use this for "long range" maps) L86 + Silencer Sleight of Hand Pro + Quickdraw Pro + Marksman Pro 2) Rambo V2.0 (I'd run and gun with this or turn a corner ADS when I expected multiple people... worked VERY well considering it's an LMG and I suck) M60 + Grip + RDS Sleight of Hand Pro + Quickdraw Pro + Stalker Pro 3) Rambo V2.1 (same as above, but if there's a lot of grenade spam... I didn't use it much, honestly) M60 + Grip + RDS Sleight of Hand Pro + Blast Shield Pro + Stalker Pro In BO2 (planned): 1) Rambo V3.0 (run and gun) HAMR + Quickdraw + Stock Lightweight Fast Hands Tactical Mask + Engineer Black Hat PDA x2 2) Anti-Sniper (Focus more on long range combat) MK48 + *scope* + Suppressor TAC40 Flak Jacket Toughness + Cold Blooded Tactical Mask Black Hat PDA *scope*: ACOG, Hybrid or Dual Band... not sure yet

Hey man.Instead of coldblooded + extra perk 2 + the secondary....try out the assault shield+overkill for me. I think you might really like it...and the best part is you don't have to rely on stealth (and you get an extra pick).
It doesn't matter if you are seen or not....as long as you have the biggest stick out there.

You'd probably love me, then. First thing I'd do as a sniper is get up a vantage point then throw smoke on the central objective, all the while picking off unsuspecting blokes with my Dual Band. :3

I ran a similiar loadout to yours at launch, Dumien. Mk48 + Shield
I think it's unusable without quickdraw though. You need to be fast since you'll be up close a lot of times
