I guess I am going to experiment with the direct modem connection and see what happens. Gonna need a few hours of play time to get an actual verificiation. If this works, I guess I can look into getting a second line installed.
So "buffer bloat"....is this being caused by theater mode?

I accidentally started seeding torrents while host in BO1 and went on a ridiculous god mode killing spree on everyone else as they ran in place. Bet you had a ton of fun. I had a similiar accident once, except I wasn`t host. Pretty much everyone except the guy was on a 2-bar, and lagging bad as f uck. Not me though, so I had a fun time pwning people.,

P2P just doesn't work any more. It worked 6 years ago when everyone had basic internet and you need just 500 mbs to run a twitch shooter. Now that everyone has different ISPs offering different tiers of internet service it's hard for 1 host to control 17 other players with different pings, bandwidth etc.
A buddy of mine is hardwired to his modem with 18 up/ 5-10 down and he's experiencing the same things we all are.
I don't understand why we all accept the fact that it is ok for us to become overnight network techs to get this game just to work with portforwarding, dns servers, static ips, router switching, calling our isps to pay more money for internet just to play this?
My theory on p2p could be compeletly wrong and I'm not a network engineer but thats the only rational I can think of and the only thing that no one is really questioning. P2P just doesn't work adquetely since blops1.

Why have the connections for the last 3 CODs been the worst I have experienced in any online gaming? I think most of that revolves around things out of your control. When COD4 was out streaming video services like Netflix weren't as common in households as they are today. Over the years streaming video became more widely used and people have more devices in their homes using the internet connection via wifi; smartphones, tablets etc. all of these devices are capable of bogging down the connection with video apps. So nowadays you're more likely to be in a match that has player(s) with erratic pings because of all sorts of bandwidth usage in their home.

You can go play COD4, WAW, and MW2 now, and they definitely have less of these issues than BO, MW3, and BO2 do. I started playing COD when BO came out and at first I assumed everyone complaining about connections were full of bull, but as I've gone back and played the older games, I've found it's true. There's clearly something different.

I agree, and it doesn't help that Vandahaar denies that there's a problem.

...either a bunch of people ITT have no idea what DNS servers are for, or CoD behaves in ways of which I'm unaware.

It's not P2P, gosh darn golly gee whiz it! the disclaimer that i wasn't a network engineer was imbedded in my post lol. also it's not p2p on the console? i know on pc it's servers and i know for a fact that there is no servers for console so i assumed that p2p was the only other connection unless there is something else i don't know. I don't understand why we all accept the fact that it is ok for us to become overnight network techs to get this game just to work with portforwarding, dns servers, static ips, router switching, calling our isps to pay more money for internet just to play this? I agree, and it doesn't help that Vandahaar denies that there's a problem. ye i heard about that. he's a dbag and apparantly the million cod players all suffering from this is a complete fabrication. i was in a lobby yesterday and everyone was stunned on how hit or miss the connection is in this game. we're not crazy, there is definitely a problem here.

There is a server even on console, it's just no dedicated. If it was P2P there would be no host.

I have a feeling that the SBMM may also be to blame. I live in San Francisco, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that I've been paired with guys on the opposite side of the country a lot of the time. I'm no IT or network security expert by any means, but wouldn't pairings such as these use up a lot more of the host's bandwidth (correct me if I'm wrong)? That said, change your search settings to Best, play in a party with people living near you, turning off Theater Mode recording if it is on - there's a few things you can do to smooth out the experience as a whole.

I'm very surprised at this thread. Rest assured my conviction of the cause of LagOps is now 'due to inadequate net-coding', in addition to many other service provider (and by service provider I mean the game service, not your ISP) and game side issues.

Rest assured my conviction of the cause of LagOps is now 'due to inadequate net-coding', in addition to many other service provider and game side issues. My service provider has provided me smooth gameplay with the previous Call of Duty titles. It's just this one that makes me yell constantly at my TV screen in disbelief. Fix this shit, Treyarch. It's THIS Call of Duty that's going to start turning away alot of fans.

Isn't your Internet uploading the video to the theater server? I definitely had a better connection when I turned it off on the last 2 games.

Isn't your Internet uploading the video to the theater server? I definitely had a better connection when I turned it off on the last 2 games. From what I understand... A file is created and timestamped textual data is appended to it every X amount of milliseconds I suppose. This data keeps track of peoples locations on the map, the direction they are facing, the action they are performing etc. On MW3 this file was made and stored locally on our consoles, on BO1 and BO2 I assume the host player ends up uploading this file after the match ends. When you go to your recent games you'll notice a much bigger delay compared to MW3 because files are being fetched from a server instead of locally from your HDD. That file is then used to recreate a match in Theater Mode. The only time video files are ever created and/or uploaded is when people render videos from theater mode. Even then it ends up going to YouTube because they are avoiding the costs and resources of dealing with the large video files themselves.

I just figured out why the games and the connection after MW2 have been shit. The people responsible for the earlier games (West & Zampella) quit. The net code that they wrote hasn't worked well with the "modified" engines in the last 3 games. Respawn's COD killer can't get here fast enough.

Well, my experience with the games got completely different since BLOPS came out and my internet speeds have only improved. So something has to give and its not 1 bullet, its the fact that the players are sync'd to the game server / host (sometimes) differently. Some people get small (250ms) advantages and it makes all the difference.
