Besides Sony always continues to support previous platforms. Look how long PS2 was still getting new games and consoles, they didn't officially kill it until a few years ago. And Microsoft isn't gonna pull what they pulled on the original Xbox

Preorders dont mean shit in their own right unless its a nintendo title since they never give enough copies to retail ever. Even then they sometimes come with other promotional stuff. In my own case I was basically given over $100 to preorder smash 4 because of a gamestop promotion. I was just referencing the brack friday bundaru.

Just get the PS4, it's the better console, may be a few bucks more but worth it for me.

MSFT's November offensive is paying off, and they did not hesitate for a second to gloat about it: news.xbox.com/2014/11/xbox-one-sales-on-the-rise?linkId=10514459(Key stats are in gold)

I think it was more a statement of opinion. There's probably been enough said on both consoles to justify one side or the other so if he doesn't want to elaborate I would just assume all his points have already been made.
Personally I'm more on the PS4 side of things, especially with games still coming out in higher resolution on PS4 than XB1, but I also concede that it really doesn't matter and thus the exclusives and what you're friends have are far better criteria to go on, which is a personal choice. In my case the only XB1 exclusives I care about are Halo, and I like some of the PS4 ones, plus my brother had a PS4 first so it was a natural choice. (My bro just got an XB1 too so he's got both now.) *shrug*

I have been looking for excuses to get an PS4, and already got the green light from my wife . At this moment though I just can't justify getting console for another platform with too many games to play on XONE. Maybe next holiday season. Hopefully by then MSFT's price war has forced Sony to drop the price of PS4 to below 300...

If you're still indecisive, grab the Wii U. It's $200 for a refurbished console and we're looking for loyal acolytes to further the cause of our nefarious cult.
Bring sacrifices, too; Nintendo expects nothing less than to smear entrails over everyone in honor of our almighty CEO, Satoru Iwata. For Illuminati. :3

i still haven't decided, but i think i have decided to buy a console on cyber monday. im hoping the black friday deals and bundles are still around, and i wont have to fight like a maniac driving to and from the stores... right now im leaning towards the xbox one, mainly because its cheaper, and though im always down with paying more for the right value, from what ive read here, there doesnt seem to be a whole lot differentiating the two. an xbox one bundle for $329 v. ps4 for $399 is a pretty big difference.

I can't speak to your cash situation, but even $50 isn't that big of a deal. Especially for something you might have hooked up for the next four to six years. Don't let price drive your decision. Bad move. As said above, friends and exclusives are what you need to be looking at. And reliability of the service. Think about it. What good is $50 saved if none of your friends are around to game with? What good is $50 if you can't play your favorite exclusive games? (PS games like 'Last of Us', and XB games like Halo & TF)
And while I am just some anonymous board member, trust me. Graphics is a non issue. I've seen both consoles in action. Don't get sucked into the Sony/MS/online media bs game of obsessing over pixel counts. It's a non-factor and only important to online fanboys who are insecure about their purchase. If 1.13% pixel count is what you are mostly after, you shouldn't even be here discussing consoles. Go get a PC. You can then sit and fuss over your awesome pixel and resolution count every year while installing new graphic cards, RAM and other techie items.

To be fair you only have to upgrade your PC about twice a decade to keep up with consoles if you're into that.

To be fair you only have to upgrade your PC about twice a decade to keep up with consoles if you're into that. But if you are some Pixel bro who obsesses over having THE best resolution out there, (and going PC because of that)....you will be updating much more. Bragging rights don't come cheap.

There is something to be said for how the Xbox One will act as your central media hub for your living room as well. I was initially on the "fuck them for making me pay more for a stupid Kinect" group - but now that I have it, I feel like it would be difficult to adjust to living without it. I walk in the room and turn my TV on with my voice. I flip channels with my voice. It recognizes my face and recommends programming for me. While watching the football game, I get a prompt if my best friend comes online and I can snap the game into the corner while we play some COD.

Yeah if you're into that, go for it. Personally, it doesn't appeal to me. I already hate being forced to talk to machines when I call a service that only accepts voice commands instead of giving me a numbered menu. And I don't really want to run my cable into another box and then to the tv and have to have my console on to watch TV. nah But then I'm old fashioned. ;3

It's also worth considering that games go on sale and get reduced in price quite a bit more on PC, which more than makes up for not being able to sell them back. On PC most games that I don't purchase at launch I'm able to pickup later on for 50% to 90% less. If I take advantage of sales I generally get them much cheaper than the same game is available used on console. Dollar for dollar PC gaming is more competitive with consoles than you might think. The next gen consoles certainly did push the technology up a notch and thus increased the price of a comparable PC. But they didn't really push the tech so far that you need a top of the line PC which is why a lot of gamers like myself who play console and PC were a little disappointed that the new consoles weren't a little bit more powerful than they are.
Personally I was hoping for something that would blow my mind, and if I were only a console gamer I suppose they would have. But as is all it did is more or less catch up the consoles to my current PC. That's fine. It's enough to get me back into the market, but it does mean that I'll still be looking to PC first for most of cross platform releases because I can get them cheaper after release, get mod support, and use mouse and keyboard. I also like having more control over the graphics which is good for performance tweaking as well as just ditching things that often look terrible or are detrimental to gameplay such as motion blur and depth of field, and I can usually get my FoV up to 90 instead of being locked at 75 or whatever.
That's not so say I always favor the PC release. I got AW on PS4 because my bro was on PS4 and because after trying a free weekend with Ghosts and having a few pains with BO2 I didn't trust AW to have decent performance on PC. Sadly many developers aren't very good at optimizing for PC these days. Hence you usually need a PC that's a bit more powerful than console due to poor optimization, and sometimes even the best PC won't matter because the console port is so bad.

Every once in a while it's useful to say "Xbox Pause" if your hands are drenched in BBQ sauce or something, but aside from that, that shit's a waste of time. It's just plain unreliable. If I tell it to go to "Fox Sports One" I'm usually fine. "Fox Sports Two" or "Fox Sports West", I can go fuck myself. You want it to figure out if you want to watch TBS or CBS? Good luck with that.
The snap TV stuff, I really only see it as useful for grindy stuff. Watching postage-stamp sized TV in the corner that drops 50+ percent of its frames isn't a great experience. Getting game invites while watching TV is pretty cool, if you're waiting for people to come online. It's less cool if you're trying to focus on your TV show and all of a sudden you get a stream of bloops and beeps to join various games and parties.
PC master race is definitely a thing, but it's not for everyone. And if you're talking COD, it's a console game at this point. You can't trust the PC versions.

Kinect can occasionally be a time saver, but completely optional. It is cool to have voice as an option, but there is nothing you can't do just as quickly if you have both your hands on the controller. I don't use XONE to watch stuff (TV, movies, sports, etc) at all, so that section of features mean nothing to me. If you do use the same TV for gaming as well as watching entertainment, then these features might be useful to you.

I believe PS4 can do some voice commands to, but I didn't buy the camera and haven't bothered to find out anything about it since voice command is the last thing I want to use.
(Although, by contrast I do sometimes find it interesting to have voice command in a game. It can strangely make you feel like you're really interacting with the game characters as if they are more real, but only when it works. My first experience with this was an RPG on PS2, which I actually really like. But the voice com is so bad the game is almost unplayable.)

PS4 has voice commands without camera. Just say Playstation or hit L2 (I think) "Start Advanced Warfare" into your mic. Or you can just hit X and start the game. So many options! Whew. Future tech be cray cray.

This is kind of a dumb question, but probably the right place to put it. When you use the "snapping" feature on Xbone does it mix the audio? Or is it one or the other? And is there a way to just have audio with no picture?

I'm seeing some people talking about cable. Dump that sh1t. Just say 'NO' to Verizon/Comcast/DirectTV and save yourself the $100 to $150 a month in wasted money. Call and cancel. That's an extra $1,200 to $1,800 in your pocket every year.
Use your XB1 as your home device. Download apps for shows you want. Pay $14.99 a year to watch a favorite show like walking dead. That's 1/10th of just one month's cable. Get a pass code for ESPN. Get free HD from a satellite and watch all your network shows for free. That's right, for free. Download Amazon or Netflix and take care of your movie needs that's way. Everything you need, is right there for 1/100th the cost, even a second tv hookup. Get a Roku(or similar device), ten seconds later and your second TV gets all your movies and other things. You don't need cable.
I went off the grid last Feb. Still feeling great about it.

I would if my girlfriend didn't insist on having cable. She likes to browse the channels and just let it run in the background or whatever...

I would if my girlfriend didn't insist on having cable. She likes to browse the channels and just let it run in the background or whatever... Hook up a HD satellite receiver. You get all the network stations plus another seven or eight junk stations. She can browse those fifteen stations to her heart's content, but with no cost. And if she likes all the other stations like AMC, TBS, etc...there are apps for them you can download. The apps allow you to get about half their content for free. So there's programming right there too. If all she's doing is leaving it on as background noise, the free sh1t should be good enough.
