It was on normal. I haven’t even attempted a prestige run at all yet as it’s not really something I want to do without a consistent team, and it seems I’m pretty much the only XBro left who’s still playing. That being said, I found time yesterday to finish grinding out the last of the forge weapons and I’m able to hit 335 with a number of different setups on my Hunter, so I’m kind of out of reasons to play anymore. I may still hop on for a raid or lair now and then, or show up for special events, but otherwise I’ll either be playing through The Witcher 3 for the first time or invading on Dark Souls 3.
markopolo: there should be 12. One for each planetary vendor other than Brother Vance and one for each tower vendor other than Tess. I don’t think they drop in any particular order though so having just done Sloane doesn’t mean anything in terms of how many you have left to go. That said, if you’ve been doing them consistently you should be about done.
FYI once you’ve done all the gift quests once, you don’t have to do them anymore. Just go to the gift pile where you usually pick up a quest, and you get your rewards immediately without having to do anything.
I’ve only ran into one nova bomb glitcher, luckily, although I haven’t played much mayhem outside the Dawning milestone requirements because it just doesn’t appeal to me. The funny part is the glitchers aren’t helping themselves at all. You only get one point for a kill while using the glitch instead of the usual three for a super kill, and I’d guess almost nobody is getting enough kills to make up the point difference. Stupid, really.
The weather here in Missouri is nice and frigid as well, with highs in the single digits (F) the past couple days. Low of -7F tonight, with -20F wind chills. Only a couple degrees off from records lows for this time of year. Not pleasant at all, and I can’t really imagine how much worse it’d be if it were another 20F colder. Yuck!
I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, Marko, but I do think they're making a pretty big misread of the community regarding that 3rd DLC. I think if they don't make a major overhaul by the time DLC 2 comes around, there's a sizable chunk of people who are going to leave the game and not come back.
So my initial positive impression was based on the idea that the daily gift quests could drop the same stuff Tess has for sale. Turns out that’s not the case, there are a couple things that are available from both sources, but all the “good” stuff (armor and exotics) is Eververse-specific. It’s an empty shell of an event compared to the Dawning 2016, which I guess should be no surprise given the state of D2 compared to D1Y3.
And the answer to this thread's title is, obviously, no, of course they can't. What now? Each Dawning-exclusive shader will potentially take up 2 slots in your shader inventory -- one slot for shaders that drop from Tess or Dawning engrams and thus dismantle into bright dust, and a second slot for the exact same shaders acquired from the daily gift quest things which dismantle into shards and glimmer. In other words, Bungie would rather take time to program these shaders to dismantle into different items depending on source, as well as take up extra inventory space in an already woefully undersized inventory area, than dare allow players to get their hands on a bit of extra bright dust during a limited time event where the total cost of the items for sale is somewhere around 30,000 bright dust. That's pretty fucking sad.
Looks like most stuff is in the Eververse, but you can also get a decent amount of free stuff from completing the gift schematic quest things. We'll see how it plays out but my initial impressions are that it's better than I thought it'd be in that regard.
By the way, everything I read about Anthem is that it is what D2 should have been.... are we as a collective looking forward to it?
LOL. If you think D2/Eververse is bad, just wait and see what EA comes up with for this one -- I'm sure it'll be a real doozy! Frankly, even if they manage to not totally Foxtrot it up with lootboxes (which we all know they will), it could be the best game ever made and I still wouldn't buy it, because Foxtrot EA. If D2 and Activision right now are straddling the line as far as what I'm willing to tolerate as far as MTX/lootboxes/etc are concerned (and they are, another step or two and I'm out on basic principle), then EA is standing 3 states away on the wrong side of that line. Foxtrot 'em. They deserve the fiery death that they have coming to them when lootboxes get regulated, half their profit stream vaporizes instantly, and their stock value dwindles to nothing.
That being said, you might want to take a look at Monster Hunter: World. I had no idea what it was until I randomly watched a YouTube vid about it the other day, and now I can't wait for it to come out (release is Janurary 26th). It looks awesome and should check a lot of the same boxes Destiny does, except with meaningful progression, loot grinding, and some actual challenge. There's an open beta for PS4 folks starting this Friday, so you may want to try it out.
Raid(s) this week, anyone? If not I suppose I'll just stay on board the LFG train. It's been surprisingly good for me lately -- almost 2-phased the Calus challenge last night multiple times without really trying all that hard.
Otherwise, yeah, you guys pretty much nailed my thoughts. I do really like the raid lair, but to each their own. I'll probably end up grinding out all the new prophecy weapons because the completionist in me won't let me not grind them all out, but outside of that there's still no long-term incentive to keep playing, and likely won't be for at least another month since Bungie is on vacation until January. The Dawning might be a nice diversion, but I'm sure it'll all be Eververse-RNG focused so there's not really much to actively work toward there.
I started watching it, but ultimately, the youtuber was polishing Warframe's knob far too hard for my taste.... no playing with the balls; straight to the puking and gagging. Plus his voice was too annoying
IGN and Kotaku are both reporting on it. Jim Sterling did a video on it. It’s all over reddit. I think the criticism is pretty loud already, actually, and expect it to get louder. Destiny 1 got the benefit of the doubt because it was new, D2 is not going to get that at all because people are fed up with years of this BS.
I bought the DLC, did it come out this week? Do I need to start playing?
So if I am reading the above correctly, those people who didn't buy the DLC....they game is pretty much over for them. They can't progress anymore? If so, that's pretty shitty.
Came out Tuesday, and it's up to you. It's going to take like 2 weeks to hit max power again (which doesn't really matter anyway), so play whenever you want. There's not a whole lot to do so you'd catch up pretty quick.
Is the game over for them? They can still play, so no, not technically. Realistically though, yeah, there's not really anything they can do to progress any further. It's always been that way with Destiny, not that I'm endorsing that model, but this should've been expected.
Oh.... and in the shock of the day: reddit is back to being an utter $hitshow of "This is a waste of $20" or "This isn't a proper DLC" or "F$$k Bungo, I'm quiting and not even getting D3"
Well, it really isn't a proper DLC, and while I wouldn't say it's a waste of $20, I wouldn't say that it's worth $20 by any means, not even close. It's extremely underwhelming, very reminiscent of The Dark Below to me, except it's 3 years after TDB and people are sick and tired of this kind of shit. There is so much potential in something like the Infinite Forest, but all they've managed to do with it is make a glorified playable loading screen that solely exists to slow you down on your way to getting where you actually need to go to complete your mission. It's sad, more than anything, knowing how great some of this stuff could be vs how poorly it's actually been done. People should (and clearly do) expect better from a AAA studio with 700+ employees.
Welp, Fighting Lion got a damage increase and now the auto-reload perk doesn't pull from existing ammo, it just gives you an extra grenade. Meanwhile, Omolon sidearm rate of fire was reduced. It's a Fighting Lion meta baby!
Oh, I should also mention that if you're going to run the Fighting Lion in PVP, ffs, be a titan with Synthoceps (spl?) to make your melee better and all that
Works great with arcstrider on top tree as well. Not as good as sentinel + synthoceps, but still pretty dang good.
Treat it like a shotgun up close. A direct hit does 112 damage total, follow that up with a melee for a near-instant kill. On top of that, quickly killing an opponent damaged by Fighting Lion instantly reloads it, meaning you can rinse and repeat this process until either you die or you kill everyone. Even if you only get splash damage, you still took away 55 health from an opponent and can finish with two melees or a combination of a couple bullets and a melee. It challenges the Omolon burst sidearms for the best close range, non-power weapon in the game IMO, and given that those sidearms are massive outliers TTK wise, there is a high probability they’re going to get nerfed when a sandbox update happens, making Fighting Lion even better comparatively.
The direct hit plus melee combo is especially potent on sentinel titans running code of the protector to proc their overshield on a melee kill perk. Pair this with the Synthoceps gauntlets for extended melee range and damage and you’re a close range monster. If you can get one melee kill in a 1v2 or 1v3, you get an easy double kill or more. It also works well on arcstriders running way of the warrior, which is completely focused around close range combat (melee kills regen health, melee kills increase melee damage for 20 seconds, dodging increases melee range, dodging near enemies recharges melee ability, melee kills recharge dodge ability). I’d imagine it pairs nicely with a devour voidwalker as well.
On top of the close range uses, Fighting Lion has a bunch of other utility. See red on radar and you think they’re tactical loitering a corner? Bounce a nade off the wall and see if you can get some free damage. Get an opponent to low health but they duck behind cover? Fire off a nade and maybe pick up the kill before they can retreat or regen health. Multiple opponents running too close together? Damage them all simultaneously. It opens up a lot of options that you don’t have access to with any “normal” weapon.
I've been gone for two weeks. Looks like I just missed a bunch of annoying/angering news?
Game sucked, people bitched, Bungie is making some changes with Curse of Osiris, more changes coming later, game is getting fixed slowly. More or less. We still don’t have patch notes or sandbox update notes so I’m sure everyone will get their jimmies rustled again one way or another when those hit. Also Fighting Lion is legit good in PvP. Not even joking.
The quitter penalty is only for competitive, not quickplay, so I don't think it's going to be a problem for you IW5K. The issue in competitive is that matchmaking won't fill an empty slot once somebody quits, so it ends up being a 3v4 or worse for the rest of the game, which ruins things for the guys left shorthanded, and is kind of a waste of time for the full team who's now going to stomp with little effort. I'm guessing it'll only apply to repeat offenders, or the penalty will start small and ramp up the more times you leave early.
Well, that’s a good enough step in the right direction to convince me to get CoO and keep playing, even though it’s pretty much all stuff that should have been in the game since launch. Sounds like sandbox tuning and other patch notes are coming as well, hopefully in the TWAB but probably not until CoO launches based on past releases. Hopefully there are changes there that impact crucible in a positive way.
I'm not sure how you guys don't see that the token system is terrible as currently implemented. It's absolutely a step back from the vendor system in D1. The only positives are that you can save stockpile them and you're able to switch them across characters. Outside of that? Complete and total RNG as far as what gear you're able to get. I've turned in 29 IB packages and still no scout rifle or gauntlets for my hunter. I've turned in around 40 NM packages on my Titan and haven't gotten the butt towel. I've turned in 153 gunsmith packages and there are still 3 guns that I've never seen drop. That's ridiculous, and that's tame compared to many reports I've seen. There absolutely has to be a way to purchase specific items if they're going to use a pure RNG, no smartloot system for gear rewards.
"Next week the Destiny 2 team will detail the systems side of the December update. It includes: economy updates (vendors & acquiring their gear, tokens, legendary shards), investment updates (new reward systems for weapons & armor) gameplay updates, and more. (1/2)
Additionally, @knowsworthy and I will also be answering some questions and addressing community feedback we’ve been reading since launch. See you soon. (2/2)”
This is make or break stuff for me. After the lackluster reveal streams, poor impressions of CoO from multiple sources, the XP scaling nonsense that recently came to light, and the crucible radio interview that showed just how out of touch the PvP designers are and explains why crucible is worse than D1, these changes are going to be the only thing that could keep me interested in Destiny. If they don’t nail a bunch of them, I’ll be sitting this DLC out until things do get fixed (assuming they get fixed at all). That’s something I never ever expected myself to say about this game, but here we are.
Yeah...I went ahead and preemptively purchased The Witcher 3 complete edition (on sale for $20 on Xbox live) to occupy me after I blow through Curse of Osiris in a week or less. Sounds like The Dark Below all over again barring any miraculous QoL and endgame changes they’re saving for the next stream. Obviously my hopes are not high.
