Guys: with beta over and full launch 40+ days away, lets work on clan name. This is the most visible part of the clan in game so we need to come up with something good:
1) we need to have this forum's identity fully expressed;
2) It needs to be within 14 characters, space included;

I am thinking along the lines of this: DenKirson **** (each * is a character)
e.g: DenKirson Bros
Mousey: if you are reading this thread, it would be great if you can make the Destiny subforum happen.

That's pretty much what they did for CoD, Witty: "DenKirson Forums." They just smashed the name together. "DenKirson Bros" works for me.

For you Halo vets, did the shotguns suck in that?

For you Halo vets, did the shotguns suck in that? I'll give it a shot but take it with huge grain of salt because a) I am not a good shotgun player, and b) I don't think that I have a good enough shotgun (there are moments that I got one shotted by a shotgun that I don't think my shotgun is capable of, so my speculation is that you really need to pick up a good one to make it work). IMHO Shotty feels very similar to Halo in general. But since there will be many variations of the shotgun, we need to better understand what "Impact" and "Range" do so we can pick the ones suitable for PvP. I also see 2 types of shotgun players: a) The really good shotty players: these guys know the map well and use movement maneuvers & melee well. They know where to pick the fight, can close the distance fast, and know when is the optimal time to pull the trigger. These guys are formidable; b) Shotty camp ers: these are the guys who crouch in a corner to ambush people.

Well I suppose the figures for the OHK ranges of the shotguns aren't known? I also have no idea how spread is calculated for pellets from buckshots. I don't know but I thought about looking at some weapon stats across different games to see which weapons suck more relatively speaking. I have used shotguns in BL2 (several), MW3 (Striker and the Model) and Gears of War (all) so I ought to know how to use them but it is usually a thing where accuracy stance may be coming to play as I always ADS'd in the beta (because many COD titles force you to do that) and I suspect that was my undoing. The only shotgun I can't seem to get the hang of is the Flakker in BL2 because it has an optimal distance to maximise damage and, due to the explosive rounds it fires, it requires a good amount of practice. There is another shotgun in BL2 works like that and that is the Interfacer as its pellets split and converge again but I have mastered that.
I never see the point in tactical loitering with a shotgun since it is designed as a weapon to rush with but then you increase your hipfire spread by running with them in some COD titles, which is counterproductive. But then I have been killed by R870 users tactical loitering in BO2 but if you give them mobility boosts over SMGs and a decent OHK range then that provides little excuse to corner tactical loitering shotgun users. At least when I got killed by one of those with the M12 in BO2 I didn't mind since it was a pile of poo.
I have looked around other sites and see no mention of a shotgun actually being good.

I tried every shotgun I got my hands on, and could not consistently get one hit kills. I know they're possible, because I got one hit by enemies using the shotgun all the time. If you get close, shoot and then immediately melee - at worst you'll end up wasting a melee.

I was told that this is a good shotgun: I also overhead a twitch streamer mentioning a green shotgun that has much better spread when ADS as the "trait" of being green. Probably even better than the one above.

Bungie's statement on Beta:
What players are able to find about the content at launch (not confirmed by Bungie), 22 Story missions, 1 story challenge, 11 Crucible maps (1 PSN exclusive), 6 named Strikes (1 PSN exclusive), 4 random strikes, 4 Exploration areas, and 1 Raid:

The above (if accurate) also mean that the level cap is at least 30 (so the level 31 Raid has enemy 1 or more levels above you), not 20 as speculated before. Level 20 appears to be where the story mission journey ends.
Besides the PSN exclusive (which XBL won't get to play until deep into 2015), my biggest beef is that there is only 1 Raid?! Hopefully more will be released as free content down the road.

My impression is that ADS does not matter unless you have that special shotgun... I had 6 uncommon shotguns, so that wasn't an issue. I only got 1 green shotgun, and it is not very good. What I mean is that green shotgun that specifically stated that "ADS can reduce spread significantly" or something like that.

In general, the mission/strike/raid counts are lower than I expected. However, I do believe that more will be added for free in the post launch, since Bungie boldly promised "something new to play every day". Granted, many of them will be in the form of challenges, weapons, gears and what not, but there gotta be missions/strikes/raids as well.
Also, we can't totally trust what fans discovered. There might be a lot more things that they simply did not include in the beta in any way.

I am looking for a shotgun that won't need to melee otherwise I may be better off using a sniper rifle for that. I eventually got my hands on the Gazon-C and loved it.

Just after I spoke the above, a redacted version came out: www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2bw74e/please_remain_calm_destiny_has_32_story_missions/ , but this one is even more speculative. Some additional comments: I think that we can reasonably assume that the original one I posted above represents the lower bound, and the new thread represents somewhat of a upper bound?

Probably even better than the one above. I ended up getting that shotgun and it looks like I sold it without using it. If they were not competing against sniper rifles, say use the four equipment slots like Borderlands, then I would have used shotguns more but the utility of the Gazon-C suits me for PvE play lists.

I agree in PvE shotgun is UP. For minions you might as well go with melee, for bosses the DPS is not nearly impressive enough to risk getting that close.
Sniper Rifle is definitely a great choice for taking down bosses. Fusion Rifle is more fun to use and seems to be more effective against mid level enemies than Shotty.

4% favorite Hand Cannon? Liars. Hand Cannon is great fun to use in PvE, very sexy. But my favorite has to go to Scout Rifle for PvE and Auto Rifle for PvP ... On a related topic, Just out of curiosity a question to all bros: how many hours have you played beta? Me: www.bungie.net/en/Profile/1/46116860184296268531) Human Hunter: 26 hours, 35 Crucible games played including Iron Banner, K/D = 1.13 (also checkout the legendary cloak and the wolf emblem I got from Iron Banner ) 2) Awoken Warlock: 11.5 hours, 22 Crucible games played, K/D = 1.23 (higher K/D because I played this second, Rare eagle banner that cost 2000+ glimmer...) 3) Exo Titan: 5 hours (only did story and strike missions to reach level 8) Total: 42.5 hours

The shotgun is useful on enemies that would take 2-3 melee hits to kill, it's much quicker to shotgun then melee than to melee twice. But yeah, the sniper rifles did seem to be more effective. I'm interested to see how the balance changes as the difficulty ramps up, and how they're going to ramp up the difficulty, because let's face it - most of what we played so far was not so difficult.

The worry on the street post Destiny beta is the fear that this game won't have enough content to hold players to play for long enough, represented by articles like this: www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2014/07/28/bungies-destiny-might-be-smaller-than-everyone-thinks/Are you worried? I spent 42 hours on beta. out of which 12 hours are spent on Crucible. with 30 hours spent on PvE, and let's say the full game (pre-DLC) represents playable content of 10 times of that, that will give me a total of 300 hours. $60 = 20 cents per hour without Crucible. So I guess that I am not too worried, this might actually be a good thing: so I can spend time playing Crucible/Titanfall/Halo MC/CoD:AW/Halo Guardian Beta until the DLC came out...

Yeah, everyone seems to be freaking out over it. It seems like in terms of maps, there might not be as much as indicated. My guess is that the difficulty will rise pretty significantly, and it will take more than an hour to run through the other worlds. I mean, if you played the Moon map, the end part was a much steeper difficulty than anything on Earth. A lot of it seems to be based around grinding, which will add lifespan to the game. Also, no one seems to know what the Vanguard section of the map contains, and the thinking is it may be a type of Horde mode, which sounds awesome. They clearly plan on doing a lot of events, so there will likely be daily/weekly events that are like the random events but on a bigger scale. I'm confident that the game will have more than enough content.
