Bounties can be saved indefinitely, and it is a great idea to not cash them until after expansion pack drops, because you will most definitely have more attractive items to upgrade.
In fact, save everything right now:
Bounties (especially the ones with 5000 XPs) Glimmers Consumables that can exchange for glimmers Coins Destination Materials Marks Mote of Light Engrams Ascendant Materials Exotic Shards
and pause your vanguard/crucible/faction/crptarch rank-ups (i.e.: if you are close to rank up, stop earning XPs). They will be much more useful after tomorrow.
What to work on today? Get as many vanguard bounties/ crucible bounties /daily done as possible, then farm glimmers...

Well..
Now I'm pissed off. I wonder if I did something stupid or not... but I could swear I didn;t redeem those bounties.....
I only have 4 more bounty points available until I max out at 100 this week.
I maxed out my glimmer, bought 2 shaders, then maxed out my glimmer again.
I might just buy a factions arm band for the esses and gees.

The biggest reason why I haven't.... no reason to. I view it as a time sink.
Honestly... I look at the factions armour and weapons, and ultimately, I'm ambivalent to putting in the effort to rank them up. Especially since the Vanguard has given me other faction's weapons as a rank up present.
Now, if they did have a niche (for example: DO specializes in void weapons, FWC solar, NM arc) I might. I know the faction's armour has specific benefits (FWC: I and D, DO: D & S, NW: I & S)
But for weapons... meh

I don't think it's worth the effort. It's Bungie's way of having the dog chase the tail. Don't get sucked into it.

I would be, if they made them have benefits.
The factions remind me of the character creator's racial element: no one race has any benefit over the other... same thing with the faction's weapons...
Hold on... that's another great idea for the idea's thread!

I view them as a time sink with minimal benefit People only rank up Dead Orbit for their shaders and some people like New Monarchy for their colouring scheme for their armour. So it's the Future War Cult for utility grounds for high end game content, because melee is a poor choice over grenades and supers.

At this point, the faction tracks are of minimal benefit. The main reason why I get onto them is because the vanguard path is not producing anything useful either. So why not? I have already passed rank 3 for all 3 factions (1 character on each), just in case that they add something more interesting in the future, so I don't have to scramble to get there.

Nah it's a random drop from ranking up your Dead Orbit rank. One of them is Bittersteel. I can't remember the name of the others.

So... a coworker was telling me this morning... There is no more level 28 Weekly Nightfall strike? Tells me the weekly nightfall is now level 30?? Is this true?
(I finally got to level 25 - getting close to running the level 28 nightfall strike, and now it's bumped up out of my reach to level 30?)

Bungie wants everyone to level up but then make it more difficult for some players. It is the same with daily story missions where level 28 was replaced by level 30 making some of them a bit of a chore, which only gives out two Ascendant Materials as a reward. So I might be skipping Nightfall and Weekly Heroics for a month or so.

I think what was done this week might possibly be a one time thing. From what I saw, the Weekly & Nightfall were with the new DLC maps. So it's possible that it might just be a one time thing this week.
I will say this. I did the weekly last night, on it's hardest setting (lv30), two of us.... and it was a chore. At least on that run, I didn't see any cheese spots and there were limited opportunities to pot shot enemies from a distance. You had to work it a bit.
The Nightfall was brutal. I tried it solo and got stomped hard. I just quit, as it was late and I needed to go to bed.

I think the difficulty is going to be set at level 30 from now on given that level 31 gear is readily available from tower vendors now. I'd be shocked if it was just a one-time deal this week only.
I didn't think the Nightfall/Heroic on 30 were too bad. THebb and I ran through them both without too much trouble, though we did wipe on our first Nightfall run in the very first area due to not being careful and having no idea what to expect. There aren't really any cheese spots per se, but you can kind of just hang back and potshot everything to death for pretty much the whole strike. Just play it super excessively cautiously and you should be ok. We both had maxed Fatebringers and arc damage sniper rifles so that helped a ton. Solo on the other hand seems like it'd be VERY tough -- not even going to think about attempting that.
Important question: since the Nightfall/Heroic are locked until completing a bunch of stuff for Eris, does anyone know if you can fireteam up with someone who's already unlocked them to avoid all the unlocking steps and get straight to the strike goodness instead of burning a couple hours doing quests first? We were only able to run Nightfall/Heroic with one character each so far, and I really don't want to have to spend 4 hours just to be able to get into the strike on other characters. I won't be able to play tonight and if we're going to raid Thursday I have almost no chance of completing the remaining 2 Nightfalls and Heroics before Xursday if there's no way to skip the unlocking crap.

That's a good question. I would guess you can't join. I tried to join Aroc last night, but it seemed like it wouldn't let me. He backed out and waited for me to catch up. We then did the Weekly together.

Yeah I think it's a permanent change since 31 is the new 28. You don't even need the 1 exotic/VoG armor you needed to make it to 29 from the looks of it.

Did some hunting on reddit and apparently you ARE able to join into the strike without doing all the unlocking steps first. If that's the case, I think I'll try to run through everything except the last few shots on the boss with my soon to be level 31 Hunter* then drop out and come back with one of my level 29 characters to finish her off. Rinse, repeat, and hopefully get some good drops!
*: Yes, even after I said repeatedly that I was going to hold off on buying anything until Xur came and Nightfalls were all done, I ended up buying a complete set of new vendor gear for my Hunter. Why? Because the very first enemy I killed on the first DLC mission dropped a legendary engram that decoded into a new 33 light Hunter helmet. Cool! My Hunter also happened to be almost capped on marks, and running all the new content would have put him over the cap by 20 or 30 marks, so I decided to buy gloves and boots too so as not to lose out on all those marks. Then after Nightfall, Heroic, and bounties were all done I'd earned enough rep to get a commendation and happened to have just enough marks to buy a chest piece. I couldn't think of anything better to spend those marks on so I said Foxtrot it and went ahead and bought that too. Definitely not what I had planned, but level 31, here we come!

I turned 29 last night... with one fully maxed old exotic, 1 fully maxed old vanguard gauntlets, and 2 2/3 upgraded new vanguard boots and chest armour

I guess being level 31 would help with doing the Raid. Level 31 gets punished a lot less than level 30 players, in regards to going up against the level 32 (or higher opponents)

Without giving anything else away about the raid (it's a minor spoiler, and one of only two things I've actually accidentally read about it), I know being 31 will be very helpful. It's just funny to me because I never would have gone down that path if it wasn't for the game gifting me the helmet, because I couldn't have afforded everything otherwise and it would've been pointless to have only 2 or 3 pieces of 33 light gear since I'd still be stuck at 30 anyway without a new exotic or raid piece. It's weird how things work out sometimes!

That's what I have been trying to wrap my thoughts around. It feels circular.
Ultimately we all want to get to level 32. But to do so, we will need an Exotic (Xur purchasing - either refurbished or a new one), plus three pieces of Crotas End raid gear. Gear with a cap of 36 Light. So 36 x 4 = 144. 144 is what is needed for Level 32. All four pieces must be level 36 light.
I get the spoiler part, but that's what makes it circular. It sounds hard to get Raid gear or will be hard? And it may become maybe necessarily to buy Level 33 equipment right now, to reduce that damage nerf....even with the full knowledge we might just toss it away within a day or week later. So while we hate buying shit we know will be tossed out, maybe we need to?
And you are right, it seems pointless to just buy one and waste time on it. You need four. There's no mixed combination of gear out there that will get someone to Level 31 (132 light) UNLESS you buy all four pieces. So maybe the goal is to just immediately grind out Marks right now, asap. Grind Mark and get those recommendation things. '
Edit....
I suppose if one waits till this Friday, one could immediately see Xur and do the refurbish or purchase thing. There's your first Level 36 exotic piece (or at least until you level it up) IF you do this, get it done....that immediately eliminates the need of purchasing one of the Level 33 armor pieces. 36 + 33 + 33 + 30 = 132. That gets you there.
So if one can wait another two days, one can save themselves the time of grinding another 150+ marks.

The most efficient path I can see:
1) Start at level 30, Play the first half of CsE on Thursday night until level 32 enemies show up (looks like this mild spoiler is completely out in the open now), and stop (probably no point to continue as level 30). Hopefully, one piece of 36-light raid gear is dropped;
2) Revamp an old exotic from Xur on Friday;
3) Upgrade both to 36 light to reach level 31. Alternatively: If 1) did not happen, buy and upgrade 2 33-light armor pieces;
4) Play the second half of CsE on Sunday or Monday;

We can get halfway, but once we hit level 32 enemies we have very little hope of advancing. To add to that (MINOR SPOILERS): even if we do manage to get past the first section with level 32 enemies, we have absolutely no hope of beating the final boss without at least one 31 in our group, and even that is a stretch.

It should be said....
.....someone beat it though. And it appears they beat it in six hours. I heard dumien (or someone else) say it was some unknowns, but this article is saying it's the same group that first beat the VoG. And if you cross reference times, Bungie released that news around 12:30/1pm ET. Which means these players started around 6am ET. If the DLC went live at 5am ET....there is no way these players could have leveled up to 31 in under an hour. So unless I am missing something, they beat it with Level 30 players.
A total of 6,116 kills in the six hours. That works out to an average of one person getting 2.83 kills per minute.
When Aroc and I ran the WeeklyHeroic last night, our average kill per minute was around 5 kills per minute.

Invigorate had a 31 to complete the raid. I'm assuming they went in with 6 30s while the 7th guy leveled up his stuff over the course of several hours to hit 31. Then they brought the 31 in to finish things off.

Maybe a group of 6 all with Gjallarhorns can have an easier time? Or maybe they find a secret cheese? Who knows. Given that we won't have a lot of time on Thursday, I consider it a decisive victory if we get to see enemies with level 32 over their head
