This. Hopefully Bungie will see the benefit of upgrading the Patrol mode iteratively to give us an improved sandbox. Hell I would be glad to have some sort of Patrol+ mode with a harder difficulty setting. Though I doubt we'll see that for the main reason that Bungie wants to keep the public map areas on parity so that you have maximum opportunities for putting people in the same instance. I don't see why the private areas couldn't get harder level enemies or even different enemy sets based on difficulty.

In a (somewhat) shocking development, Blizzard announced a new IP at BlizzCon called "Overwatch": www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2014/11/07/blizzard-debuts-new-ip-overwatch-at-blizzcon-with-a-beta-in-2015/It seems to be in the same genre as Gearbox's new IP "Battleborn", dubbed as "FPSMOBA", although my guess is that both companies don't like that term. In some way, the game also resembles "Team Fortress 2". Cinematic trailer: Game play vid: It is remarkable that the managed to surprise everybody with a triple play: 1) trailer; 2) actual game play; 3) playable by attendees at BilzzCon; They also said that a beta will be offered in 2015.

It doesn't deserve to be called an "FPS Moba" because it doesnt have the literally two things that separate that genre from "class-based shooter," namely: 1. AI bots that are mechanically different than playable classes 2. In-match progression (MOBAs traditionally have experience, money, etc that are local to each match played top improve skills and items) The only major connections to be made is that the classes are called "Heroes" and that each class gets 3 main abilities (including their main weapon) and an "ultimate," but those are just names. Without the traditional XP/upgrading system, you could have classified almost any class-based shooter as an "FPS MOBA" well before the term even existed. Do we know for sure that these 2 are not part of Overwatch? If yes, then Battleborn fits the term while Overwatch does not. In that case Overwatch is just like a more sophisticated Team Fortress 2 (never played that game so this is just based on the look and feel from the game play vid)?

Beating TF, Destiny and Wolfenstein combined sounds impressive, but it isn't. The above is a puff piece.
TF was only released on one console, the XB1. It's first week numbers were well under 500k. And supposedly, TF beat Castle Wolfenstein. The two of them combined were under a million. Destiny? We don't know the real first week numbers, (as they kept them hidden), but we can ballpark them to be around 5 million or so. So what did CoDAW really do? It beat 6 million games sold. That's not saying much considering the games ahead of it were much higher. BO2 at 13.3 million. MW3 at 12.9 million. BO1 at 10.8 million. And MW2 at 9.1 million. Actvision never would give the numbers for Ghost. It was speculated that Ghost's numbers were around or between 7.5 to 8.5 million.

So far we only know the number for UK. I expect similar performance (of CoD beating these games combined) in US due to the similar player preference of the two regions.
For the rest of the Europe, it's hard to say. One thing to note is that Titanfall did much worse outside US and UK.
vgchartz.com's US number should come out soon. From there we can get a better idea of how AW did. It is safe as the king of FPS, the question is how it compares with other CoD titles.

And a toss up as to whether it beats Ghosts. That should put it somewhere between 15 to 20 million users/players.

It has become the fifth fastest selling Call Of Duty title ever. Yeah, but you realize that it's out of 14 CODs? Top third ain't much.

Until the full data comes out, I'll reserve judgment. Ghosts really hurt Activision sales wise, doing worse than even Modern Warfare 2, it would not be surprising if sales waver because of that, however it seems AW is getting high praise, even from people who normally dislike or are indifferent to it. So until the full data comes out, it's up in the air.

Putting the sales project aside: I applaud SH and ATVI for taking braver steps in terms of innovation. It's time to inject some freshness into the franchise, otherwise it will die nonetheless. With innovations it might not sell as well for the time being, but it could pave the way for more freedom away from the classic formula.
Healthy competitions from other games (e.g.:Titanfall, Destiny and Halo) won't hurt either. We have already seen franchises learning from each other on cool features.

Yup, now if AW beats all of them combined around the world over since they released then it'd be interesting. (Did the maths combined the total sales according to VGChartz of Destiny, Titanfall and Wolfenstein and combined they're 12.49 Million in sales).

(Did the maths combined the total sales according to VGChartz of Destiny, Titanfall and Wolfenstein and combined they're 12.49 Million in sales). The problem is that it's one week sales. We do know that Destiny did around 5 million in one week sales. TitanFall's first week sales were relatively small. I think around 500 to 750k million. And TitanFall beat Wolfenstein. But keep in mind, TF only released on one of the four consoles (XB1). If they had released on all consoles, that number might have been four to five million units sold too. So CoD was somewhere between 6.0 to 8.5 million in one week sales.

I think you are being a bit hysterical for no good reason. The reality is no game can ever maintain yearly double-digit 10% increasing sales. At some point, every party has an end. That's just reality and CoD was no different. It reached a peak with BO2, dropped with Ghosts and now the franchise will settle in at some lower baseline, to where it will linger around much like Madden football does. That's just the business cycle at work. I think your use of aids, dying, self inflicted and Andrew Becket/Magic Johnson is pretty tasteless. And a poor analogy too, even on that level. CoDAW (love it or hate it), is still mostly likely going to be the best selling video game of the year.

Just because you don't know who the people I mentioned are and don't understand the analogy, doesn't mean it isn't a good one. COD does not deserve tasteful. They shove tasteful shit down peoples throats every year. You are just one of the people still stupid enough to continue opening your mouth.
They would not be suffering massive sales losses, year over year, if they would make a good game. They can't. They continue to make worse and worse games. They can't even figure out basic networking. Connections also get worse and worse every year. Why not go back to COD4/MW2 connection and solve the problem? Maps get worse. Their "innovations" continue to be more and more unnecessary and ridiculous. They are probably getting close to the point of cost development + advertising being > sales profit. If Treyarch's next installment isn't amazing, COD is over, cancelled, dead; like all of the other franchises that Activision has run into ground.

OK, this smells like trolling, let's stop it right here before the thread degenerates into personal attacks. First of all, this sub forum is for bros who still want to play new CoD releases, despite its weaknesses. If your goal is to just trash the game and at the same time insult people who are playing it, this is not the place. There are plenty of forums and threads all over the Internet that do that. The bros here are not fanboys of CoD. We are among the harshest critics of the games, but at the same time we also recognize and praise the things that developers have done right. So far most bros agree that the new movement system of AW is a welcome move, a breath of fresh air into the classic formula that is on its way of becoming stale, it is a significant innovation by SH, not a copycat of anything else. Whether you like it or not, you need to see that CoD developers are indeed trying to innovate. Go back to a previous game? It might be great news for the fans of that particular installment, but it won't fly for the rest of the community. However, once new CoD games no longer sell well, I think that they might consider remakes of the "classics", like what 343 industries have done in Halo MCC. If that's what you wish to play, you might have you day in the not so distant future.

So I am here to find out about the games and then be one of the harsh critics. I did't say to go back to a previous game, just a previous games connection. There were very few complaints about COD4 & MW2 connection / networking / matchmaking. Also, AW is a direct copy of Titan Fall. COD is also famous for stealing from other games, such as Crysis & Homefront.

So, let's see where things stand now. Destiny is in a pre-expansion lull, and the Halo collection totally shit the bed and rolled around in it. Even Assassin's Creed, which a lot of my shooter friends are into, appears to be a pretty mediocre affair. Not much to challenge CoD right now. I'll be into Dragon Age next week, but I don't know what's next on the list to take away player base. Destiny expansion in Dec?

COD / Activision I guess. They stole kill streak ideas (drones, dragonfly, etc). They did pointstreaks first. Ghosts campaign was a direct rip off of HF campaign.

Also, AW is a direct copy of Titan Fall That's a good topic to discuss. As one of the biggest fans of Titanfall, IMHO AW did not copy anything from TF. 1) First of all, by the time TF is out, AW should already have its combat sandbox implementation completely locked down, too late to copy even if SH wants to. 2) Mechanics wise: TF's movement focus is on parkouring through wall running. Even without guns, moving around in TF can almost be considered as a mini-game by itself. Shooting feels like intermissions between running: when you see an opponent, you pause from moving and switch to shooting. The gun flight itself feels quite like traditional CoD, and movement system is in general not a tool to enhance your performance. AW's resemblance with TF stops at the double jump, which is a mature concept not invented by TF. IMHO AW's innovation is mainly the boost dodge/slide, by doing a simple jump immediately followed by moving forward/left/right/backward, giving the player a burst of momentum to the desired direction. This is quite significant in the gun fight, adding another dimension beyond just aim and shoot. Some players prefer former, some players prefer latter, some players love both, and some players hate both. One way or the other, it is a significant change and has transformed the CoD formula in a scale that none of the predecessors have done. So far, the discussions on this board have favored this change in general, as the game has become much less camp y. There are many problems that are causing player disatisifaction: networking, spawn, and weapon balance top the list. However, one thing people have been reporting is that the game is fun when thing are clicking (say smooth networking experience), more fun than Ghosts at least. Some bros are even going so far as calling it the most fun they have ever had in recent years. Had AW have the dedicated servers support as TF, and better map/respawn designs, it could have been a great game. I think that you may want to reserve your judgement and play it for ~10 hours (if you haven't already). If the game still feels shitty to you by then, then it is probably time to move on.

On the XONE side lots of loyal fans are anxiously waiting for Halo MCC to get its shit together on matchmaking. Once that is out of the way (I would say by this weekend), it is a great complement to AW. I myself have been trying to establish an MP rotation of TF->AW->Destiny Crucible->Halo->TF (if not because Destiny PvE keeps throwing tasks at me, just got my 3rd pieces of raid gear on my Warlock, which means a great deal of grinding to level 30). I have never been this excited about having so many PvP options to play at the same time. Destiny has weird network errors? Halo Matchmaking not working? Raged by AW? No problem, exit the game, take a deep breath, and start playing another game On the PvE front, I am tempted by GTA 5 (too great a game to pass up) and AC Unity (too attractive a bundle to pass up for my 2nd XONE purchase). I just don't see how I can have the time to play them...

AW is certainly not unplayable unless you're just unlucky and can't get a good ping or something. For me it's been totally playable and mostly fun other than one night of getting pwned every 5 seconds. AW definitely has some growing pains and I'm hoping for some bigger maps in the map packs... which would probably be the only thing to convince me to bother getting them. I like the game, but I'm not as into CoD as I used to be and not really interested in shelling out more money for a couple new maps and no other content at all.
Destiny didn't live up to the hype, but is still a very addicting game, and if it happens to be the type of game you want or are looking for it is a very good game as well. Just don't look to Destiny to be superior in either PvP or story. It a combat sandbox where you will repeat killing the same enemies with slightly different gear and gradually increasing levels of difficulty and modifiers until you get to the Raid, which is almost another game unto it-self.
Titanfall as Witty said, only resembles AW in that they both have CoD style gunplay and both have a doublejump feature. TF's gunplay is very CoD style, though with slightly longer TTK's. The weapons are also pretty accurate compared to most CoD's other than maybe MW2, but that also works because the maps are so big and movement so fast, far faster than AW even with the new mobility options. AW and TF are very, very different games, and as witty said, the timeline doesn't match up.
Honestly the fact that Titanfall, Destiny, and AW all have enhanced mobility and verticality built into the game design is not the result of anyone copying anything. It's more like a bit of synchronicity. Honestly I think it's happening because all of the developers and publishers recognized that the market has changed. Old brands and FPS styles are looking more aged and people seem to want faster movement and more verticality in their shooters. It's popular. There a new UT as well. Evolve has parkour. This is not an isolated incident, and I don't even think it's a super recent one. It's an iterative change in game design based on what's popular. AW is a bit of an experiment to try to capitalize on it with CoD, but if anything I would say AW's new mobility options owe more to old 2D games that used dashes, slides, and double jumps to great effect. In fact the AW system seems more similar to those old 2D versions with the quick jerky animation then dropping you strait back into normal slower run speeds. TF on the other hand encorporates it more directly into movement so that you blend in and out of parkour more seemlessly.

On this note, I would like to bring up again what Halo 5 is heading towards: Faster movement is definitely one direction the game is going. The most intriguing part is that the idea of "ADS" will be added to the game, but it won't affect how fast you are moving. That is certainly very interesting, and can attract CoD crowd. Some Halo veterans hate it. I on the other hand am getting easily excited (as always) about new things like this, and can't wait to play the beta after Christmas...
